WAS I TRICKED

The young lady seems breathless as she hurriedly gulps down the water as though her life depends on it.

Looking at the way she was dressed, her jeans were fitted snugly on her, her jersey was old and discoloured, and she tied a knot with the edge of it on her right side hip-line.

She was sweating profusely and she look exhausted. The jeweelry she was wearing seems to be real gold, despite her behaviour she is beautiful and her figure is amazing.

'I like the child though, she has stolen my heart from the very moment I heard her voice, she is so much different and soft-spoken.'

When her mother calls out to the young lady, "Caroline."

"Yes, Mom!"

'For a moment, Vince thought she would respond to her mom the same way she bawls up on the child, but her tone of voice is soft and sweet just like the child.

Thank God she is not the young lady GP has chosen for me, her name is Caroline and GP has chosen Sidney.

"Honey, we have the order to decorate the Hall next Saturday, Mr. Montgomery wants the place to be ready by one."

"Mom! Just remember we have a function for three, so send word to the family that you have moved their time to half-eleven. That way, the function would start at twelve, so when they leave, we will have at least an hour to have the place ready for the next function. You know I hate the rushing and the clashing."

"Yes, love, and thanks for the reminder."

"Okay, Mom, but I wasn't aware when the person came to make the reservation."

He realized while she was speaking to her mom, her back was still turned toward him, she seems to be unaware of his presence.

When her mother replies to her, "He didn't love, his grandson is here to confirm the reservation."

"He is?" Caroline turn around and looked up from the kitchen, the water bottle she was drinking from was still in her hand, seeing the gentleman looking at her.

Observing the way she rubs her eyes and opens her mouth as though she can see with her mouth.

The water from her mouth was drooling down as she glared at me, as used the back of her hand to brush it away.

At that moment Vince knew in his heart that she had recognized him from the club and she had only now seen him, for the very first time standing there.

Turning away he wonders what she was thinking, knowing he should have left already, he said, "I have to go Ma'am, but can you tell me for what purpose my Grandfather had made a reservation for the Hall?"

"Oh son, your grandfather came to me two weeks ago; asking for my Sidney's hand in marriage?"

When Vince heard what she said he felt numb inside as though all his blood drains from his body. Forcing his voice to sound normal as he said almost in a whisper, "Thanks" and left.

All Vince was thinking at that moment was, 'How could GP do that? I had only said yes to him a few days ago after I had spoken to Chrystal the second time.

How could he make such a drastic decision two weeks ago without consulting me?'

Recalling when his grandfather had spoken to him and when he responds to him, 'Oh God, I was taking his warning lightly, but he was dead serious and how did he come to know of these people?

That young lady was so undisciplined, rushing past me as though I wasn't there, and not even saying sorry or hello when she bounce into me.'

Reaching the car Vince then recalled the way she was looking at him, 'Could it be she was so tired and thirsty that she wasn't even aware of my presence?'

'But what was she doing so that she was that exhausted and out of breath? She didn't even notice me standing here? Or, maybe she must have thought I was a member of her family because when she looks up at me, it was as if she was seeing me for the very first time in the house.'

'Why does that make me angry, wherever I go young women are always gloating over me, and here this young lady didn't seem to see a big six feet three standing tall.'

'From what I did observe from the moment she looked up at me it was evidence she recognized me immediately.'

'Then if that is the case she must have visited the club I play my music, for her to recognize me so quickly. Could it be her sister has seen me also?'

Feeling a little anxious, he sits in his car, considering if he had seen her before.

Taking the photo out trying to recall if he had seen her in the club but nothing came to mind.

Starting the car Vince focuses on the present situation at hand becoming angry with himself for agreeing to this foolish proposal.

He closes his eyes resting his head on the steering wheel as dissatisfaction and perplexity overwhelmed his heart and mind.

Recalling immediately the day when his grandfather asked him a month ago as if it was yesterday.

He was looking so stressed out as though at any moment he will collapse. "Oh my, goodness, was I tricked to say yes to him?"

Remembering his promise to his grandfather, 'That his choice for his marriage will be acceptable, and he will agree to follow his wishes. Oh God, how could I be so stupid to agree to something so ludicrous?'

Closing his eyes Vince, knew when he told him yes, he looks so relieved knowing some tension had left, and that's what he needs at this immediate time, less stress.

'But how did he move so quickly? And how come he fined these low-class people to join our family when it has so many high-end families?'
