68 Vivid imagination

POV: Yun

The small room with one bed, a wardrobe and a table was a mess. Things were scattered, and an uneaten lunch lay on the table. There were no windows in the room, so the lamps on the ceiling were the only source of light. Light bulbs and a laptop monitor illuminated the room.

Yun was sitting on the bed with her laptop on her lap. Her hair was as messy as her room. She looked tired, as if she hadn't slept in two days.

All this happened to her because of a wave of hate on the Internet. Many people wrote bad comments under her posts. Although after two days of struggle, she began to suspect that these were not people, but dumb bots. These nasty comments touched on a variety of topics, but mostly related to a new product they wanted to sell.

She closed the chat and opened a video clip sent to her by her work colleagues. The video was called "Discussion between botanists" - this video discussed the effect of a new metal on organisms. After looking at the title, she turned on the video and scrolled to the main part.

"It's just wonderful that people will become healthier in the third generation! It's just so great that I can just take it now and shut up without even discussing the subject. But!" The voice of the unknown man from the video was heard.

'Anything said before "But" is just bullshit!' Yun thought and continued to listen to this fool.

"We know that this radiation will not only affect people!" The man continued.

"This is not radiation!" He was interrupted by another man sitting with him in the studio.

"It does not matter. And why are you interrupting me? I didn't interrupt you when you were talking. Have respect! This energy affects all living things around. And on plants too. This means that we will have new types of plants in the future. It will be very easy to graft plants to each other, and people will just play with it in their garden, grafting cacti together with pineapples, and everything will work out for them!"

"Yes! This is great! We will be able to have such a variety in the plant life that we will not have enough words to come up with names for them." The man was again interrupted by his opponent in the studio.

"Why did you interrupting me again! Don't do that! Like I said, this energy affects all living things. What about bacteria? They are living organisms too." There was silence in the studio for a moment, after which the man continued his story again: "You're right. We're going to have so many new types of bacteria that we won't even have enough words to name them. And new bacteria are new diseases." After he finished speaking, the man enjoyed the silence in the studio, a smug smile on his face as if he had won this debate.

"Jerk…" To Yun, this man was very unpleasant. He had a bald head and was overweight. His appearance did not sway her judgment. Yun didn't like what he said, and after that she paid attention to his appearance.

"You're exaggerating. Even now, we don't know about most bacteria that exist. Even humans have bacteria in their bodies that we don't know anything about." Now it was the bald man's turn to speak. He had big glasses and looked like a respectable man, but he was too thin.

"Also, whatever new bacteria appear, we can deal with them with antibiotics." The thin man continued.

"And how will bacteria adapt to antibiotics?" This time the bald man interrupted.

"You're right, but when that happens, people will have strong enough immunity to fight off these bacteria. And I have to point out that pharmacists are also inventing new drugs every week."

"Then it's a race? A race for survival, and this metal turns a marathon into a sprint. What if not everyone will have access to this metal? What if not everyone will be able to buy it and when people in developed countries are healthy and happy, and in in poor countries will people die of unknown diseases?" A bald man asked a very valid question.

"I think you're exaggerating. Three generations is a long time, and anything can happen in that time. I don't think humanity should be afraid of bacteria. Even now, new types of antibiotics are being developed that leave no chance for bacteria to survive. And I must remind you that unlike viruses, the human body can deal with bacteria on its own. Viruses pose a greater threat. What do you say about that?" A skinny man with glasses adjusted his jacket as he asked this question.

"What can I say about viruses? The effect of this new energy on viruses has not yet been fully studied."

"Maybe you're right. But you should know that viruses don't have their own mechanism for working with DNA. They infect a cell, forcing it to make clones of itself, and then the cell dies. That means Torterra's energy doesn't affect viruses. At the very least , there is no direct effect. Viruses are now the biggest threat to humans because there is no cure for them. All a person can do is help their body fight the virus itself."

"So what?! We can't tell how cells will react to viruses. Things could get out of hand in the future." The bald man didn't want to talk about viruses.

"There is a possibility, but what I see now is that humanity will go into battle with bacteria, but the worst enemy is viruses and they will be defeated. As you said, humans will run with bacteria, while viruses will continue to move at the speed of a marathon runner."

"Yeah! That's right! Stick your bacteria up your ass, bald Idiot!" Yun was happy when the skinny man won the argument with the bald one. At least she thought so. She closed the laptop and lay down on her back to rest.

"I need to clean up... And take a shower." Looking around the room, she was frightened by what she saw. Scratching her head, she went about her business before going to sleep. It was already late and she needed to sleep.

Half an hour later, she was already lying in a dark room and watching something on her mobile phone. Her fingers moved at the speed of light, typing. In one moment, she wrote an entire page of text in the comments of the video she was watching. She was explaining how Torterra's energy works. She told everything that Dr. Newton explained to her.

Another hour later, she began to think about sleep, so she put the phone down and closed her eyes. Half an hour later, she noticed that she was reading something on the phone again, so this time she got angry and put the phone in the closet next to the bed. Finally she relaxed and gently hugged the pillow. Finally, it's time to rest.

BOOM

Yun opened her eyes sharply when she heard the soft sound of some kind of explosion.

BOOM

The sound of the explosion repeated. This sound sounded like you were underground and 3 kilometers away planes were dropping bombs on the ground. That was pretty much what was happening now.

"Damn Oppa! Let me sleep." Unhappy, Yun lay down on her back and started flailing her arms and legs. This is the third night in a row since Torterra started working with metal. He built another island 3 kilometers from the main island. The new island was small. It resembled a box without a roof with one entrance.

"But… You can do whatever you want." Yun calmed down and hugged the pillow again. She recalled how she yelled at Torterra after his fight in Korea. She was ashamed of her words. After those events, she watched all the videos that were available on the Internet about that event. She saw him scream in pain as the Kaiju hit him with a sonic attack. A lot of people died in Seoul from this sonic attack. Including her parents... On that day, Oppa was also injured and did not hear her, so he did not respond to her.

Now she tried to fight with her character flaws and tried to listen more to others. She had only her grandmother left, so her friends on this island were her comfort from grief. Torterra didn't need to sleep, so he worked day and night on his little island where he could barely fit. He was like a robot, hammering on metal and constantly releasing fire to melt it.

It's because of his fire he built the walls on this new island. Despite these walls, the warmth of his fire was still palpable. Each stroke of his hammer lit up the sky above him. It was very beautiful, so Yun often went outside in the middle of the night and watched him work in the distance.

Yun slowly closed her eyes and tried to sleep. Actually, the noise was not very loud. After all, the source of the sound was far away, and she was in a bunker underground.

BOOM

BOOM

To the rhythmic sound of the hammer, Yun slowly drifted off to sleep. That night she dreamed of viruses and bacteria dancing together to the sound of drums. Oppa had long hair and a black leather jacket, and he was rapidly swinging his sticks to beating the drums.
