21 The Phenomenon

After the criminals were taken into custody, the military conducted an interrogation. It turned out that they were dumping nuclear waste at the bottom of the ocean. Such things happened in history, so it was nothing special. These people will be handed over to law enforcement agencies, and the case will be closed. What interested the military was how their surveillance object behaved.

If it were not for the criminal actions of the sailors, they would have thought that the turtle had simply attacked the ship. His act showed how intelligent he is. Considering all the interactions between humans and the turtle, it is safe to say that the intelligence of a turtle is not inferior to that of a human. After interrogation, it became clear that the purpose of the attack was intimidation. Military soldiers constantly joked about this topic, giving the turtle various horror nicknames.

According to the data of the GPS sensor, the turtle remained at the place of events and did not leave this place for several days. Maybe she's just sleeping like before, but the problem is that this place is contaminated with nuclear waste. This situation caused concern among high-ranking officials. It is unlikely that the creature understood the dangers of radiation. Therefore, the order was given to dive in and understand the situation, if possible to induce the creature to leave this dangerous area.

Special equipment for diving into the ocean was always present on board the ships to keep an eye on the turtle. It was decided to send the drone so as not to put people at risk.

During the dive, the drone constantly transmitted various information and images from surveillance cameras. He sank lower and lower until he reached the bottom of the ocean at a depth of 4,000 meters.

It was dark and the drone could not find the turtle. According to the GPS, it was there, but it was a little difficult to find it at such a depth. An hour later, a gap in the ground was discovered, and the drone headed there. At a depth of 6,000 meters, they found their target. A giant turtle was sleeping in the middle of canisters with radioactive waste.

The dosimeter showed an excess of the permitted radiation norm by ten times. A person will not be able to survive being here. But the appearance of a sleeping turtle in this area greatly surprised both the military and scientists. It was clear that the canisters were moved. Instead of being scattered throughout the area, they were carefully moved and arranged in a circle around the giant.

No one could understand what was happening here. Does the creature seek death? Doesn't she understand? Either something unusual is happening here or in a few days people will lose their ally in the fight against the Kaiju. A decision on further action was immediately taken. Taking the previous interaction as an example, the drone turned on the red spotlights and started making loud noises.

I was awakened by some incomprehensible noises and spotlights shining into my eyes. I felt like I had only slept for a couple of days before I was woken up again. "What happened again? Let me sleep in peace!" I thought.

There was some kind of insect swimming in front of me, making these sounds and shining rather powerful RED spotlights on me. Unpleasant memories, which I had forgotten, appeared in my head. "People stole the Kaiju from me like that, shining red spotlights! Now you want to drive me out of here? Only in your dreams!"

Quickly rising to my feet, I roared so that even the ships above me could hear me.

ROOOOOAAAARRRR!

I watched as the fly in front of me was twirled by the rushing water I had created. It was a drone. He was small and thin. A person could not fit there. "Ah, you scoundrels!" I realized who I should vent my anger on!

POV: Scientists on a warship.

When a loud scream rang out, everyone took off their headphones so as not to damage their ears. The scientists faced the titan's wrath, and it scared them. They were afraid that he would rise and sink their ships. Therefore, they tried to quickly take the drone away so as not to annoy the beast, but the drone did not obey the controls. After some time, the roar of the beast could be heard even without headphones. The vibrations were transmitted through the hull of the ship. It was muted, but no less intimidating.

The monitors showed an evil monster what staring at them. In the next moment, the paw quickly approached the drone, and at that the signal disappeared. The scientists held their breath and looked at each other.

"He's not coming, he's standing still!" One of the scientists voiced the GPS tracker data. Everyone in the room breathed a sigh of relief. "That was close!" they said.

The next day passed calmly. Concern about the Turtle's health did not disappear, so everyone tried to figure out what to do next: leave the titan alone or risk it again.

"Look at that!" One of the scientists noticed something while reviewing the data from the drone. The rest of the employees approached him, listening intently and looking at the monitors.

"These radiation levels are amazing. Check it out! There it is!" He was pointing at the monitor with a pencil. "See that? The radiation level has decreased. Here we go again! And there's another decrease!" The scientist spoke, showing different time intervals.

"Could it be because of the undercurrents?" One of the scientists asked.

"I checked, there are no currents at the bottom of this gorge."

There was no explanation for this phenomenon, so the scientists dared to lower another drone to the bottom of the ocean. This time they tried not to approach the Turtle. All they had to do was check the radiation levels. A whole day was spent on preparation and on obtaining all the necessary permits from the management. In fact, no one was in a hurry. Everyone hoped that the Turtle had fallen asleep again.

At a depth of 6,000 meters, scientists began to receive the data they needed. Only after 24 hours of observation could they say with confidence that the radiation level was decreasing. It was phenomenal. The only thing that explained this phenomenon was the presence of the Turtle. No one could tell how it worked, but the giant absorbed the radiation, thus purifying the environment.

After much discussion, it was decided that the Turtle was there on purpose and understood and sensed the existence of radiation. This discovery opened up many prospects as well as many dangers. If the creature can absorb radiation, and judging by his anger at the drone, he likes it, then every nuclear facility on the planet is at risk! It was an apocalyptic threat.

The fact that the creature was absorbing radiation was not reassuring. Judging by the indicators from the drone, this process takes some time. So, if it comes to "eat" at a nuclear power plant, it will cause a catastrophe of a continental scale, and only after that it will take months for him to absorb it all. This development of events did not suit anyone.

The management felt themselves under pressure. On the one hand, they didn't yet have an effective weapon to fight the Kaiju, and they needed the help of the big Turtle. On the other hand, this Turtle could cause even more trouble.

So far, the first solution has been to intentionally feed the creature. Thus, people could keep the creature in one city. The second decision was more radical. It could cause serious economic problems all over the world. A decision was made to limit nuclear technologies. This was good for both protecting against the Turtle and protecting against Kaiju surprise attacks.

The capacity of most nuclear power plants has been reduced several times. Power plants have several units, and when all units are working, then the power plant can be said to be operating at full capacity. By turning off most of these units, you can reduce the power and in the event of an accident, the scale of the disaster will be much smaller. This restriction applied only to nuclear plants located near the ocean or seas. Unfortunately, it was impossible to apply such restrictions to all stations.
