9 Fight for Survival

It took Gamera half a day to swim to the designated location. The smell of gunpowder filled his nostrils as he lifted his head above the water. The sound of explosions and sirens echoed through the air. The city, resembling Los Angeles, was engulfed in flames (it was San Francisco, although he couldn't quite recall how they looked). Nearby, an overturned and battered ship floated. People were trying to escape on boats and constantly yelling something.

There were many such ships in the bay of the city. Gamera approached one of the ships and grabbed it with his claws. People began shooting at him, and planes promptly appeared, launching missiles at him. It was excruciatingly painful, and if the missiles hit his vulnerable spots, he would see his own blood. Despite the pain, he tensed his arms and began flipping the ship. Gamera could stand on the bay floor. When the ship tipped over with a loud creak, he stepped away from it, safeguarding the smaller boats that were rescuing the drowning.

Gamera imagined a 20-meter Kaiju appearing on the shore. But this wasn't the scene he had envisioned. It was a catastrophe! Such devastation could only be caused by something large and powerful. Smoke filled the air, and ruined buildings littered the city with their debris. The roads near the shore were torn apart as if a colossal bulldozer had tried to dig them up and see what lay beneath. There were very few people left in the city, and those he saw were either dead or injured. Rarely did anyone walk around helping others. The city was in ruins! He had spent almost the entire day getting here, and in that time, the city had ceased to exist.

Observing this tragedy, anger ignited in my chest! "How can so much suffering be inflicted? People were simply living, taking care of their children, working, elderly folks spending their days in retirement, they were all just living here. This monster must die!"

Venturing deeper into the bay, I traversed the ruined bridge. It was towering, and if it hadn't been destroyed, I could have walked beneath it, but now it was completely shattered. I could see where the planes were flying and where the sounds of battle emanated. To reach that place, I needed to pass through the city again, and this time I couldn't go around it. The city was so vast that you couldn't simply circumvent it by chance. But a better idea came to me. I took a deep breath, filling my lungs with air, and let out a roar.

ROOOOOOAAAARRR!

A loud roar reverberated through the city. Everything seemed to momentarily fall silent. "I hope that was an alpha roar! It's better if it was him. I don't want to go and fight in the middle of the city, because then I wouldn't be any different from him." As I started losing hope that it worked, a loud rumble echoed, as if something heavy had struck the ground. Those sounds grew louder and approached me.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

And then I saw it! A colossal creature emerged from the smoke and flames, as if from the depths of hell itself. With each step it took, the size difference between us grew. This creature was nearly twice my size. It had a crest on its head and four arms. Two mighty arms demolished buildings as it reached out to grab them and push them aside. Two smaller arms hung from its abdomen, ready to tear apart anything that came near. Its thick and powerful tail swept cars off the road as if they were mere scraps of paper. Its jaws were filled with long, sharp teeth, and a large bony plate protruded from its back, resembling a dinosaur's crest.

RRRRROOOOOAAAAARRRRR!

Its roar was so powerful that I witnessed a shockwave erupting from its jaws. Windows of buildings that hadn't been damaged yet shattered and scattered onto the streets. My ears were deafened, and fear gripped my heart. "What am I doing here? Why is it so huge?! I'm dead! It will kill me!"

Overwhelmed by panic, I turned around and started running back towards the ocean, but it was a mistake. It was bigger, therefore its legs were larger, its strides wider. How could I, being a turtle, escape? Feeling a strong blow to my back, I tumbled forward face-first. Water splashed all around. Luckily, the blow hit my shell, so I quickly tried to get up, but the Kaiju stepped on my back with one foot, pinning me to the bottom of the bay. It attempted to strike me from above, aiming for my head, but I retracted it into my shell. "I needed to do something, it will kill me!"

Shooting my head out of the shell, I bit his leg, on which he was standing at the bottom, and pulled it with all my might. Losing his footing, the Kaiju began to fall onto his back. I did not let go of his legs. I had a choice - either let go and curled up on his stomach, or try to bite off his leg. I chose to bite his leg off, sensing a chance to slow him down so I could escape. I clenched my jaw as hard as I could, shielding my head with my hands, and began to climb to my feet to prevent him from rising. His blue blood filled my mouth and I began to jerk my head hard to break his bone.

"HRRRRRRRRRRRKK!" There was a loud crunch of bone breaking, but at the same moment I received a powerful blow to the head. The blow was so strong that I could not hold his leg. With one blow, he broke through my arm protection and stunned me. My head felt dizzy, and I took a few steps back. Then I felt a blow to my chest. It seemed that I was hit by a wooden log at high speed. I felt my chest shell crack and I began to suffocate as if my heart had stopped.

I fell on my back, and my head fell back and sank into the water. "This is the end!" - was all I could think. He only had to finish me off. "One punch to the chest and he'll put me through." The sounds of explosions rang in my ears and I raised my head to look. Planes circled around, pelting the beast with missiles. Some planes were shot down by the hands and tail of the beast. Not far from the shore, the ships that were still afloat opened fire from their guns, and the soldiers, hiding between the buildings, released a hail of bullets and fired from grenade launchers. A painful sensation came over him and he roared, waving his arms, forgetting about me for a moment.

"This is my chance to escape," I thought, gathering my strength. I quickly rolled onto my stomach and got to my feet, only to find myself with my back to him again. "NO! I can't let him hit me in the back again, I won't have a chance to get back up." I quickly turned around just in time to see a Kaiju running towards me using one of his long arms in place of the broken leg I had damaged. There was not enough time to make a decision. I plunged forward, exposing my arms and face. When we came together, my shorter stature allowed me to reach his stomach. With his small hands that grew on both sides of him, he caught my hands from the stomach and spread them to the sides, but my face crashed into his stomach.
