2 Breaking Out From Under the Ground

The evening sun floating above the horizon and its rays allow me to feel great relief. Without realizing it, I let out a cry of victory as I burst out of the ground, but it immediately struck me with its loudness and unnaturalness. After struggling a little more and gaining a little relief, I notice that I am no longer human, that I am a giant, that the color of my skin is dark gray, that the shape of my hands resembles the paws of a reptile with claws, and finally the very way of seeing makes me dizzy.

My first reflex is another panic. The huge size and unfamiliar body cause complete horror in me. My paws are clumsy, and every movement is clumsy and unusual. With just one step, I lifted hundreds of tons of earth into the air as I tried to climb out completely. Having taken this step, I felt the weight on my back push me forward, and, tangled in the ground, I begin to fall. Arms (now paws) forward, I hit the ground and slide to the bottom of the hill, kicking up a lot of dust into the air.

I might have been embarrassed by the awkward fall if I were human, but I didn't feel that way now because my brain wasn't working from the shock. After a while I made some effort and sat down. "I need to calm down" was the first thing I forced myself to think in the midst of this chaos. I stop, close my big eyes and focus on my breathing. Air fills my lungs and I try to match it with the rhythm of my heart.

Slowly the evening silence affects me. The sun had set completely, and the sky was illuminated by a full moon. Lifting my head up, I watch the stars in the sky. Now I am no longer just a guy who lived and did his own thing, but something big.

"By the way, what kind of creature am I?" - thinking, starting to look around. Noticing the weight that pushed me to the ground, I realized that it was a thick shell on my back.

"It's strange, but let's start thinking. So, I'm a big turtle now? Maybe I've reincarnated. But that doesn't make any sense. Maybe it's all just a dream? Is it another reality created by my dream, or is it the dreams of a coma? Something unique. I don't remember dying, and since I was 20, it's unlikely that I could have died painlessly and by accident."

"Let's not think about it. So I'm a big turtle-like creature now. I'm about 50-60 meters tall. It's hard to tell my height from the trees around me. By the way, I can see the city not far away, and judging by the noise , the people there are running around in a panic like scared chickens. It's not funny at all! I gave them a good scare!"

Scanning my surroundings once more, I began to look for signs of any damage I could do. Trees were downed, but luckily the town was far enough away that the landslide wouldn't swallow it. Some houses were on fire, and the sound of fire sirens echoed throughout the city. I'm not sure if there were houses on the mountain I came from, but it's unlikely that anyone here has built a house with such a view of the city, and that too by the sea!

The knowledge that I accidentally killed people gave me a cold sweat! I was afraid to look at the destruction. "What, how will I see broken buildings or cars? Or worse - dead people? Children? What should I do now? Maybe I can still save someone from the rubble?"
