Remnants

Two days passed since Connor woke up, but he looked completely different now. He wore baggy brown pants torn from the bottom with a gray shirt, he held a mop in hand as he mopped the wooden deck, muttering under his breath, cursing his existence.

In these 2 days Connor learned a few things, and one of them was that he was either on a ship with some weird cunts or he was in a different world. This knowledge was not easy to believe, but seeing the things these gray robed men could do made him rethink everything.

"Did I somehow transfer into a new world while I was napping? Does that mean Lisa is currently looking for me? Will they search the ocean assuming I fell overboard? Wait! Does that mean at least a few of the unsolved missing cases might be related to something like this? Or at least something supernatural? Or am I the only one?" Questions like these have been swimming inside Connors brain like tumors, stealing away his sleep while only giving birth to further questions with no answers in sight.

The ship's sailors told him that this world's name is Gaya and that he was on the ship of the Inquisition, they appeared to pity him for some reason at the time, but now he knew why.

"I can't believe i became a fucking slave!" He muttered to himself. Someone of a high rank who rested in the room at the top of the ship gave the order. Connor was someone they rescued, took care of and nursed back to health, hence, without the ability to provide any form of compensation, Connor will work for the Inquisition until his debt is paid.

This seemed reasonable at the time, but as he spoke with the sailors further he learned that there was no escape anymore. This was something the inquisition did often, gathering what they called "debt" of some unlucky fellows and forcing them to join their ranks, and that this debt's amount was never stated and will never be, making them work forever with the excuse of payment. A good excuse that no one could argue against.. Not like any would dare to.

"Get back to work!" The same bald man yelled at Connor. Since that day, exactly like he looked, the man had been nothing but obnoxious and rude since Connor woke up, as if he was looking down on him.

Connor understood after some time that they were headed towards an island, and on this island a lot of unexplainable things have been happening, one of them was the appearance of some ancient ruins, uncovered after a strong earthquake that somehow made them surface. This world has been existing for a long time and history was lost in its journey. Now that some remnants started appearing, the inquisition jumped on the opportunity to gain and learn as much as they could, alongside many others.

The ship Connor was on is a transport ship on their trip back to the island, they were done delivering some artifacts and ancient scrolls gathered on the island back to the inquisition's main force.

Days passed and Connor was slowly losing his patience. He was no stranger to hard work, but this kind was not something he excelled at. Fishing and assisting other fishermen with their nets and gathering their catch, dressing and cleaning some fish to be cooked, changing oil from some lamps and a lot more dirty work.

"What are you thinking about?" A woman dressed in a servants robe approached Connor as he was going about his business. This woman's name was Ariel, she was a villager from the mainland that, just like him, was forced and taken by the inquisition to work due to her father's debt. This small similarity made them a little close as they gathered together each day to either bad mouth them or make fun of the bald man.

Connor reached and covered his hair, putting on an ugly expression as he stood like a gorilla and pointed at her. "gEt BaCK tO WorK!" He said mockingly.

Hahaha!

Ariel laughed before she did the same and said. "yOU CaN'T TeLL tHe DiffRENCe BetWeEn mY HeaD anD SoMEonE's aSS!"

Connor and Ariel both laughed, feeling some weight lifted off their chest. Who needs a psychiatrist? This is way better.

"We have two clowns on the ship huh!" A voice was heard from around the corner, where to Connor and Ariel's horror, a bald man appeared, and even without his eyebrows one could tell how mad he was.

"Sir, It wasn't o…" Ariel tried to speak, but she was cut off by the man.

"You dare badmouth a novice of the inquisition behind their back?" He spoke, his irises started to slowly glow. Connor knew what that meant, and he grabbed Ariel before running away. Just as they were about to turn around the corner, a powerful force slammed into Connor's back, sending both him and Ariel into the wall in front of them. Blood trickled down Connor's head as he supported himself and tried to stand back up, but he couldn't, as another blow hit him right in his stomach, sending him up into the air for a second before he slumped back down gasping for air, a burning sensation appeared in his throat before he started to vomit.

"You better clean that up!" The bald man said before he turned towards Ariel. "Archil's push!" The air shifted before a transparent force flew towards Ariel, when suddenly Connor appeared in front of her!

ARGH!

He was sent back again, he could feel his insides being scrambled, or was it his imagination due to the pain? Who knows.

"Oh, a hero!" The bald man scoffed. "Let's see how much you can take then!"

BOOM!

Suddenly, the ship shook violently as everything crashed. Connor wasn't aware though as his world was already shaking after that last hit. He looked up at the bald man, expecting another hit with whatever magic or sorcery that was, but all he saw was the man's back as he ran towards the deck.

"You ok?" Ariel asked, grabbing Connor by his arm and helping him up.

"What happened?" He asked.

"Did you not feel that? Something hit the ship.. Do you think we're under attack?" Ariel was visibly concerned, but more by Connor's condition than whatever was happening outside. Whatever it was, it was not their problem, but the inquisition's.

"Let's go look" Connor said. His imagination, like usual, started running wild as he imagined all kinds of scenarios happening. Were they being attacked by pirates? Maybe they hit some rocks, maybe some creature in the water?

Ariel helped him as they made their way outside, seeing the bald man standing still, as if he was frozen by something.

As they both raised their heads, they saw a giant rupturing the surface of the water, towering over the ship. It looked at them as the wind roared all around.

"IT'S A TITAN!"
