Guardian

A few hours passed ever since it all started, neither Connor nor the rest of the passengers could get any sleep as people crowded the deck, watching the ongoing massacre. Even after all this time people were still screaming and fighting to survive, but the more of them died, the more Walkers awoke. It was a vicious cycle that never ended.

Watching people fight for their lives and fail, dying one after the other was not a very good morale booster. Connor took Lisa to her room, calming her down as he sat next to her. She slept shortly after and he walked out, closing the door behind him. Even though they broke up he still cared, that's all Connor could tell himself.

Everything was going to hell but the cruise ship was relatively safe. The distance between it and land prevented the walkers from seeing the people on board while even if they did there was nothing they could do. What truly worried Connor was the Titan that struck the Statue of Liberty, but ever since then it did not appear again.

"We can't stay like this" Connor muttered to himself. He knew full well this was not a zombie apocalypse and with the constant earthquakes that have been happening, he knew from the sailors that this was the signature of the emergence of the ancient ruins.

Just as that thought passed, another stronger earthquake made the passengers whimper, some even ran back inside. The water not too far away from the cruise bloated before some form of structure appeared. It was bigger than the ship itself as it stood proudly in the middle of the ocean. It looked like a castle, broken slightly from the top but there was nothing else wrong with it except the water and mud that was still falling from it. Connor stared at the structure in awe, knowing full well what was about to happen.

In the windows, the doors and so on were countless dark figures, staring right at the ship. Connor was unable to see them clearly, but he could already tell that if those things managed to get on the cruise somehow, none of the passengers, including himself, would survive.

Roars and growling could be heard from inside, but these things were unable to leave the structure. Connor did not know if there was something preventing them or it was by choice, but he was not about to find out, the moment the structure appeared, he knew that they had to leave or it would be their end sooner or later.

This time Connor forced an employee to lead him to the captain to have a chat. The man wore his captain uniform with a buzz cut and a tough but proud looking face. Seeing Connor approaching him he spoke. "I understand that the situation is dire and we are doing our best to think of something, sir, please go back to your room and re…"

Connor quickly interrupted him. "Did you see that thing? Did you see the movements in the windows?" he continued. "I don't know why they did not attack us yet, if it's something blocking them or whatever other reason, we need to leave before they figure it out!"

"And where should we go? It'll be the same anywhere" The captain said. "We've been in contact with other ships around and from what they said, these things are popping out everywhere, there is nowhere for us to go!"

Connor took a deep breath before he asked. "What about on land? Were there any of them spotted as well?"

"Yes, they were the first thing that appeared before all of this happened. From what I was told, they destroyed many buildings when they emerged and many unlucky people fell in the cracks" The captain answered.

"Did something come out of them?" Connor asked.

"We don't know.." The captain sighed ."We lost contact!"

"So that's a yes" Connor said.

"You actually think monsters will appear or something?" A man stood up and spoke. He wore a sailors uniform but appeared to be of a higher ranking than your average sailor. "This is not some game, sir, please go back to your room!"

"Is this guy serious?" Connor said. "So people dying and coming back to life, eating each other like some animals and a hand that was bigger than that forehead of yours emerged from the water and broke the Statue of Liberty like it was a twig is normal to you?" Connor scoffed.

"Sir, please calm down, we understand how surreal all of this is but if something does come out of that castle, we have over 200 feet between us of water that will keep us safe" The captain said, calming the tension.

"Water?" Connor questioned. "If those things somehow make it to us, what will we do then?"

"We completely understand sir, please go back to your room" The captain said one last time before a couple of sailors started escorting Connor out.

"They see me as just a panicking passenger, but I can't tell them that I've seen this happen in another world" Connor sighed. "I'm not staying on this ship"

To some people, they might deem Connor's decision as idiotic, but staying at the mercy of a Titan that might attack the ship at anytime and the castle that's full of those things not too far away isn't smart either. Counting on some water and hoping those things can't swim is way too stupid.

Connor walked onto the deck, looking around for a way to make it on land. He could still see a horde of Walkers, but there were no longer any survivors. Connor would have to somehow make it past those things without being seen, and he had a plan.

Whoosh!

As Connor was contemplating, he saw a boat emerge from the port as it started leaving the city in a hurry. It was a speeding boat with an engine. They appeared to be survivors that managed to make it out and were heading somewhere.

WOSH!

As they were going, quickly leaving the cruise behind, a hand appeared from the ocean, the same Titan hand, grabbing the boat with ease and tightened its grip, breaking and killing whomever was inside. Connor watched with fear, finally realizing why the Titan did not attack them.

"It's stopping anything from going past a certain limit…" Connor frowned. "Why?"
