Chapter 50

it took a few moments for Ozpin to calm down as he led you outside to the back garden and took a seat on a deck chair. Finally though, he calmed down, wiping a tear of mirth from one eye, "Oh indeed, I did wonder if anyone would ever get around to asking something like that," he commented, "Though, not in the manner you did at all."

You hopped up onto the table between the two deck chairs and raised a brow at him, "Well, you know me professor, always asking the right questions."

Ozpin snorted a little laugh through his nose again, "Quite," he nodded, "As for the answer to your question. I'm quite glad to say, that no I have not ever reincarnated as a woman. I have no idea why mind you, but I'm quite grateful nonetheless for that small mercy."

Well, that answered your question. Before you could think of anything else though, Ozpin spoke up again, "Still, as I was saying, you are a bold one aren't you?" he mused, "Miss Schnee, Miss Rose and Miss Valkyrie, Miss Nikos too if some of the gossip Oscar overheard is anything to go by, you do not aim small, do you now?"

Go big or go home was always a saying you liked. And well, you couldn't really resist, you wanted them all to yourself. You figured, you'd already died once and never really managed to achieve anything you wanted. So, in this new life, you'd make sure never to let anything slip through your fingers, the same way you let Emerald and your life just because of one single lapse in judgement.

"Miss Xiao Long might not take it to well though.." Ozpin hummed.

You rolled your eyes at the thought of her. "Let her say what she wants, the whiny bitch is just looking for any excuse to lash out at this point, I literally died and got reincarnated into a Grimm and you don't see me whining," you replied, "Waa waa! I lost muh arm! Waa Waa! Why can't I get given magic powers! Waaaa!" you mocked the thought of the blonde.

Ozpin shook his head lightly and sighed, "Admittedly, her tragedy doesn't quite match up to yours and she isn't handling it quite as well as you are yours," he agreed with you, "But, not all people are born equal, you know that better than most. Young Yang is lashing out in her fear and sorrow and grief, but at the very least, she lacks the sheer mental resilience you have, yet she is trying regardless and that is brave and admirable of her."

He had you there. "Fine," you huffed, as much as you didn't want to agree with it in regards to that annoying bitch, it was sound logic, "Just don't expect me to simp for her, if she takes shit too far I'll smack her down regardless."

"And you would be in your right to do so," Ozpin hummed. He turned towards you and smiled, "You've always been a little rough around the edges, and not quite on the same wave length as your peers, but that doesn't change the fact that at your core, you are a kind person, willing to put his life on the line to protect others, and it was that trait you showed back during our first meeting that made me think you were worth giving the chance to start at Beacon early."

A surge of warmth and pride shot through you and you couldn't help but smile, or as best a smile as you could muster at least. Still, this talk of the girls and getting into Beacon early reminded you of something. "Professor," you spoke up, "Why did you let Ruby in early? It doesn't really seem like you'd just bump her up two years early just because of her strength. She was in the upper half of the class in practical, but she was at the very bottom alongside Arc when it came to theory."

Even you had been near the bottom in theory. Which was why you spent hours upon hours each day when not training or in class reading up on all you needed to know.

"Because she was a target for Salem, one she hadn't found yet to be sure, but it wouldn't be long before she did," Ozpin replied simply, "Miss Rose, just like her mother before her, has inherited those powerful silver eyes. I know very little about them personally, only that I believe they come from the God of Light, just as magic came from the God of Darkness and that they deal considerable damage to Grimm. I know not how to use them. But, I believed having Miss Ross close by and with the chance to get advanced training, would be the safest option for her in the meantime."

So Salem was targeting people with silver eyes because they were a threat then? Which is why she wanted to kill your cute little hooded friend. It explained why Tyrian was after her. And she did manage to freeze that gargantuan wyvern that made even your max size seem small in comparison.

You could understand why she'd fear such a power then. Not that it made you happy at all.

"Enough of that depressing talk now though," Ozpin waved his cane through the air, "I wanted to talk to you, both about your abilities, and about the possibility of giving you a bit of instruction with your magic. I believe I can be of big help to you in learning how to create a transformation for you, when you obtain enough magic power, to give yourself a new human form as it were."

Your eyes widened at the offer.

------------

What else could you have said to the offer, but yes, yes, motherfucking yes! The sheer desire to regain your super awesome manly spectacular pussy destroyer of a dick was too much for you to pass up. So receiving instruction on how to finally begin using your magic a bit more, specifically from an ancient wizard the one who created the maidens according Weiss, was just...awesome. Just fandabeedozie!

And so the first order of buisness with Ozpin when going over magic, was going over how you used it. He'd had a good little laugh for some reason when you called upon your magic and reinforced your body with it, leading to glowing trails of light coming from your eyes.

And then it was on to theory crafting. And, as intelligent as you thought you were, most of it flew right over your head.

"Don't worry, you're doing fine," Ozpin reassured you as your first teaching session came to an end with your magic pool running dry, "Creating the frame work for the spell is the very beginning, and it isn't something so simple, it took me many, many years to get a handle of it. It is the basis of magic I created for creating specific abilities and spells and gifting them to others. It is the basis on how I created that shrink spell I imbued you with, and the bird transformations both Qrow and Raven have now."

You felt a bit of pride run through you at his praise, but this did bring up another question, "What about the maidens?" you asked.

Ozpin paused and hummed, "..Admittedly, it is part of it, and would really have been all there was to it if it was simple gifting power to four individuals, draining for sure, because the maiden powers are quite formidable, but the maidens are not quite that simple sadly," he admitted. He'd been walking around you in a circle, instructing you, but now moved over to sat back down and slumped into his deck chair again, "The original maidens, they saved me from a period of grief that lasted multiple lifetimes, and even after that, when they had helped me regain my feet and saw what it was I was up against, they braved the dangers despite being just kind young women with no combat ability to be my allies, my first allies outside of my hosts."

This was getting heavy..and interesting. You walked over and jumped up onto the other deck chair and set in to listen.

Ozpin looked almost forlornly up at the sky, "To give them the chance to help, I gifted them with the power of the maidens, but that is not all," he shook his head, "They were four sisters you see? And they shone so brightly, so kindly and warmly. It was because of that, they had other family, and close friends. I wanted to make sure that those they wished to protect could be protected even after they were gone. So I did a foolish thing, I created a spell to weave the power of the maidens into reality itself, with the condition that the powers would move on to people they cared for when they passed on, allowing the families they'd created to have the power to protect themselves even in the future."

Weaved into reality itself? What did that mean? Like some conceptual effect you read about in fiction and things? A law of reality, like physics and fire was hot and such? Up is up and not down. That kind of thing.

Ozpin shook his head and sighed sadly, "It backfired on me, required far more power than I thought it would, and even I, as powerful as I used to be, did not have enough," he lamented, "And so what I wanted to achieve was lessened, and instead of the powers going to family and those they cared for, the rule I created by mistake, was that the power would go to the last female they thought of...I didn't even specifically want it to go to just females either, why it does I'm not sure even now, but perhaps, a limit that came into effect because of my weakness."

He turned to you as you tried to process it all, "And that young Cobalt, is how the power of the maidens came to be a vaunted tool of war, rather than the shield I envisioned it."

Sorry lads, came down wtih a bit of a cold. Y'know, runny nose, headaches, cold sores, really sluggish, food just running right through me. The works. That's why it took me a bit longer to post this.
