First of Many Graves.

The bodies, they're endless. Constant, never ending, some burnt to a crisp or mangled beyond belief. Some are intact but they are starting to become rare. Still so many bodies. Yet they still need to be put into the ground so they can finally rest in peace.

I never truly understood why those despised me for what I do. And in a way I can't say that I blame them. I surround myself with death and the dead on a constant daily basis. Yet would they understand what would happen if the dead were left to rot and fester.

Diseases, rats, flys, and others I truly never wish to meet. If you have no idea what I am talking about then good for you as you are one of the few pure ones left. But I warn you, if you look for the worst then you only have yourself to blame.

The damn war of the worlds started this never ending constant supply of bodies. That and the wrath of Mother Nature herself is also to blame, but her blame is on the small aspect of things.

Since it all started with the asshats that started the whole thing. All she did was fight back.

Massive random hail storms with hail the size of small SUVs, tornados pulled directly from one's nightmares or one thought to be fantasy, mountains spontaneously collapsing from record breaking earthquakes, oh and the legendary and cursed silver green lightning.

I can only remember the day the bombs started dropping and that cursed silver green lightning gifted by Mother Nature herself.

And for what makes it so legendary is that it not only destroyed whatever it came in contact with. It also destroyed everything electrical or had energy in a massive radius from the point of contact.

The rumbling of the bombs combinded with that of the lightning is something my body and mind have never seemed to forget. Oh and my name, Bastion.

No memory of family, friends, or truly anything. Well that isn't entirely true. I do remember a flash of silver green and then poof. Then the next thing I knew somebody in a gray and gold trench coat was standing over the top of me with the most confused and terrified look on their face.

He seemed frustrated that I couldn't answer any of his questions. What could I truly say?

Oh why yes my kind and benevolent savior thank you for your kindness, let me help you by saying that I know the location to Gerlach Fromm's treasure, let me draw you a map.

He didn't think it was funny. I did though.

Since I wasn't of any use to him he sent me to the biggest known organization that was gaining a decent amount of attention during that time. I honestly thought it was a cult and in a way I know I'm right.

Don't get me wrong, they were very nice and kind. They helped retrain everything I once lost from scratch. And when I had the basics mastered and I was slightly above average in the looks department they decided to give me a shovel and said "start digging," see such great people.

Just at six foot, short brown hair, decent build because of… whatever I used to do. Oh, and deep purple eyes with a blood red color on its edges.

At first I didn't mind as I saw it as a noble duty to give those who died a proper burial. I even made sure to try and stay on top of all the correct burial rites.

And let me tell you they are endless. I even had to go bald a few times in order to make sure I was doing the right thing. But then I started to notice the truth of the matter after my twentieth grave.

I'm cursed. They see me as someone cursed because I'm the only one to have somehow survived that cursed silver green lightning. Still I never let it get me down, if anything it was fun to mess with the ones who feared me.

Rumble, Rumble. BOOM!!

The sound of that cursed lightning awoke me from my musings as I let out a sigh and looked at the now gray sky. I could see the lightning snaking its way through the clouds like a fish in water. Quick yet surprisingly beautiful.

I grabbed and pulled the hood of my trench coat over my head as I looked at the funeral that was currently in its final parts.

"Rain will be good for the soil, but it will make the dirt turn to mud making the burying slightly more difficult. Still at least they seem to be happy. Hell, they seem to be more energized." I said to myself as I turned and looked at the only one who wasn't celebrating. "Yet no matter whatever happens, you seem to never even flinch huh."

It was a woman dressed in all black with wite edges. It looked elegant on her, if not mesmerizing. She always covered her face with a black veil which didn't work as it hardly hid her beauty.

She watched silently over them.

Well not those in attendance. She watched over the dead and the one who buried them.

A Silent Sister of the Grave.

I can still remember the day she showed up. Bossman was pale, almost like he saw a ghost.

All he said was that she was from a very powerful organization and that she would be staying. Almost tore my head off when I tried to introduce myself to her. The look of rage compared to the amount of fear I saw in his eyes said another story though. Still I didn't question it further since it was nice having someone like her watch over me as I dug the graves.

Rumble, Rumble, BOOM!! BOOM!!!

'Well that was quick?.' I thought to myself as I watched the funeral quickly finish after the rapid crack of lightning. 'They didn't even finish saying their final goodbyes, nor did they pour the basin of wine over the body? Well that's rude.'

I grabbed my shovel as I shook my head slightly and released a light sigh. "Well I'll make sure to pour one for you." Normally everyone would have grabbed a cup and one for the departed but since the cursed lightning scared them away it didn't happen.

The Silent Sister of the Grave nodded her head slightly indicating that I can start the digging of the grave. She even started to hum when I got close.

When she first started to hum I thought I was hearing things, but when I looked to find the source of the noise, my jaw almost dropped. It wasn't because it was coming from her, if anything it was the most beautiful and calming music I've ever heard. And the weird thing is it felt extraordinarily familiar.

What was I saying? Ah, right. The reason my jaw dropped.

It was the smile and intense look of passion, love, and desire that couldn't be hidden in her eyes. But when I rubbed my eyes to make sure I wasn't seeing things and looked again the look in her eyes returned to normal with a very soft smile.

I thrusted my shovel into the ground and grabbed one of the tossed cups. I was even surprised that the Silent Sister did the same as she normally watched and hummed.

We both filled the cups and gave the departed a salute with our cups then poured it across the casket. The Silent Sister hummed the entire time and even nodded her head in my direction which made me smile.

But when I went to grab my shovel to start digging the grave her humming stopped as the most mesmerizing and tranquil voice sounded next to me.

"You have been cursed Bastion but no longer."

I froze as my mind stopped as I slowly turned to look at the Silent Sister of the Grave who removed her veil revealing her beautiful face.

"You will no longer have to live in this cursed world. But sent to a place that was taken from you." The Silent Sister just continued to smile as she stared at me.

"Wha-!!!"

I couldn't even finish a single word before my vision became a sea of silver green as well as a loud crack of lightning.

"Become the one you were meant to be our Emperor of the Grave. Seek those who sought to take away your place and bury them beneath you. Seek those who cry out for justice and break the ones who caused it. Decimate your enemies and make them beg to their Gods. Bury them without remorse! Bury them without love! Bury them with no mercy! Bury them all!"

"I will see you again when you are ready, my Emperor."
