12 Ch 11: The Dragon Chain That Wrapped Around The World (1)

The Dragon Chain That Wrapped Around The World

This quest is one of many chain quests that exist in GEP. As many of you probably would have guessed by now, a chain quest is a type of quest that you must be completed in a set order. Many of these chains provide players with lore chain quests based in just one zone or take the player across several zones or continents.

As for this quest, The Dragon Chain That Wrapped Around The World, this quest is five quests long and only exclusive to the rogue class that has a magical type sub-class. This quest was discovered very late into the game because not many people like to play rogue, and it is even rare to find a rogue that builds INT and AGI instead of AGI and STR.

Not to mention that the player also need to be in a dark faction to have access to this quest chain.

It was a single player in the game who discovered this quest chain. After he found and did all the quest chains, he was rewarded with probably one of the unique items in the game, not the most robust item but an exceptional and niche item.

The Dracoboros.

If the name of the quest had not to give away by now, the reward would be that of an actual chain. It is a chain that has a shape of a black dragon head attached to a never-ending chain. The Dracoboros is not technically a weapon but can be used as a weapon if the player desire to, and then equip it, it will take one of your accessory slots.

What truly makes these dragon chains unique is that you can summon more than one.

What does that mean, you might ask?

You see, when you summoned the Dracoboros, it came out from a unique space, through a portal, and this portal can be opened; more than one and more of the chain would come out. In other words, 10 of these chains would come out if you open ten portals, as long as you have mana to use it.

But what truly makes the Dracoboros special?

Well, when the first player did the quest chain and received the item, the player discovered that the chain could be used as a mobility tool. You see when you open the portal, and the chain comes, it would continue to fly forward for a certain distance before the chain reaches its limit. You see, despite its name, the chain has a limited length for gameplay's sake, so it would not continue flying forever.

When the chain reaches its limit, it will enter another portal, and when the chain enters the said portal, or if the chain hits a wall, the player then would have two options, the player would have the option to pull himself toward the head of the chain or not do anything.

However, if the chain hits another player, the player would have three options: pull himself toward the hit player, pull the hit player toward the owner, or don't do anything at all.

And that is kind of it when coming to these funky dragon chains; that is the primary function of the chain, pure mobility; while it certainly can do some damage, the damage it deals is minuscule, so the best way to use it is to use it as an extender, opener or an escape tool.

As for why Hao wants to get these chains? Simple, because he thinks it's a cool item, nothing more, nothing less. While it certainly would be a great mobility tool, it won't do much in the damage department.

Arriving at the back of the church that is the quest location, Hao quickly spotted the NPC that would give him the quest that he needed.

A male NPC was sitting on the bench at the back of the church. He wears what seems to be a black hooded cape with yellow markings, an open white shirt, black pants and steel-toed shoes. The only notable feature of the NPC's face is his glowing yellow lizard-like eyes, and everything else is covered by a shadow from the hood he is wearing.

Hao did not waste time before sitting down next to the NPC on the same bench without saying a single word.

Time passed, and neither Hao nor the NPC said a single word until the NPC himself broke the silence.

"You are quite an interesting one." The NPC said, "I haven't seen someone like you for quite some time. It's quite rare these days." The NPC quickly turned toward Hao, who also looked back when he felt the NPC's gaze on him.

"I can sense it in you, you know? For a thief like you to have that much mana in your body, I am quite surprised. Well, saying you a thief would be quite a disservice to you; I guess you more like an imp than a thief." The NPC said

"Thank you?" Hao answers back, not knowing how to respond to the NPC statement. 'An imp? Now that is a first. I never heard an NPC calling a player an imp before.'

"Hm, you should be. Now, since you might as well take a shot, it's not every day to see an imp like you in this wasted city. It's would a wasted opportunity." The NPC said before standing up.

"I have a job for you, imp. Do you want to accept it?" The NPC said

"Ho? What is this about?" Hao said, faking his interest while leaning forward. After all, he already what was going to happen next.

"Look, I got you interested, imp. I want you to get four things for me. Simple as that. I will tell you all of the four locations, you go get the things to bring them back to me, and I will reward you handsomely." The NPC said while smirking slightly, and Hao could see it clearly despite the shadow covering his face.

"What?" Now this time, Hao is genuinely surprised by request coming from the NPC because this was different from what he had heard and learned in the past. While Hao's memory is undoubtedly not photographic, he can still remember most of the vital information in the game.

Hao remembers that the first quest the NPC would ask for would be an escort quest to a dungeon, where you and the NPC would clear the said dungeon and then do a fetch-type mission where you need to steal something from a blacksmith, and that is only the first quest of the quest chain.

But now, this is not the same quest chain he learned in the past; this is different from before.

'Why is it different? Did I do something wrong to activate the quest? Is there a requirement needed to unlock the proper quest? Or maybe...' Hao thought drifted toward what he thought was why the quest changed.

'Is it because of my sub-class? Arcsnake Trickster? Is it also the reason why he is calling me imp? But then, why doesn't he call me a snake? That would make more sense.' Hao thought before his thought came back to the present and answered the NPC question.

"Sure, I do it. Just tell me where these things are and what you need." Hao answer

[You have to accept a quest!]

[The Dragon Chain That Wrapped Around The World Will Come To Its Limit]

"Good, good! Then listen closely because I will not tell you again. The item that I need are located at four different dungeons and don't worry, these dungeons are not that far away from here, so you don't need to be worried about the distance. The items I needed are located at the end of these dungeons, and as for what I needed, well, it's bones."

"Bones?"

"Yes, bones, you might think it might be hard to find, but it not really. They are pitch black bones that give off mana that an imp like you could quickly detect."

"Really? Is that it?" Hao ask

"Yes, that is all."

"Ok then. Now... Here is the map; I already mark the locations; follow the mark, and you find these dungeons." The NPC said before handing Hao a paper map which Hao quickly grabbed it.

[The location had been marked on your map!!]

"Now then, good lock. When you do, come back here, and I will reward you."

Hao nodded as a response before making his way toward the dungeons marked on his map menu. While making his way toward the first dungeon close to him, Hao starts to think about the quest he was given.

'This quest seems different. There seems to be something off about this quest. I mean, gathering bones? Why would someone need those bones for? Also, how would that relate to something like a dragon chain? I highly doubt the reward would be a Dracoboros, but if it not the Dracoboros, then what would it be?'

While Hao certainly has questions in mind and is confused about why the quest line is different. Hao cannot help but feel excited about discovering what will this quest line lead, and he is certainly eager to finish this quest as fast as possible.
