Chapter 9

A farmer's day usually starts before the sun is coming up from the east. Although he's currently not in the modern world, it seems that such a practice was the same to the people in Avene World.

Ein's wife, Esther, has been preparing some bread from the wheat she's been milling since last night. It seems that their day-to-day life wasn't as bountiful as it was, based on the number of work she day from morning till night.

From what Evan could see, she had to start her day by preparing food from scratch for her family of four, at least two hours before Eins woke up and went to tend the field with their son, Elric.

As the youngest, Elise can sleep a little longer, but she'll have to start helping the house by cleaning their family's laundry, home, and fetching water when she wakes up. What she's doing can be said to be the most straightforward work she can do.

"Good morning, Evan. You're awake pretty early today. Would you like some hot water to wash your face?" Esther asked. It seems that the vat of water above the weak firewood stove was prepared for washing.

"Yes, please." Evan nodded while taking up her offer. At the same time, he's a little flustered because he was not looking forward to coming out of the room this early.

Worried that he would be teleported back to his world when he tried to access the door, Evan Young purposely wakes up slightly early to run a test. And just as he thought, accessing an appropriately locked door will lead him back to the farmhouse, no matter what.

The time zone was about the same, and both worlds were running on the same time system of twenty-four hours a day. Furthermore, he could access the door in the farmhouse again back to Ein's wooden house.

But to his surprise, it seems that only a bedroom had this teleportation function. He tried accessing the door to the outside of the house and the backyard to clarify his suspicion, but they couldn't work.

This almost means that the bedroom he will be using in this world will be automatically accepted as his safe zone in this world. Again, the same thing was applied to his farmhouse.

Except for the door itself, all the other entries in the house do not have the same effect, and they were basically just doors into the rooms and toilets.

Next would be the leather book in his hand. While the magical missing and appearing in his hand doesn't work in the modern world, it behaves differently in Avene World. To access the book in Avene World, all he needs is to place his hand around his chest for the booklet to appear inside whatever he's wearing.

And this is why he came across Esther early in the morning when he returned to the Avene World. Evan Young looked relaxed after clarifying the few matters that had been bothering him. Evan got himself cleaned and ready for today using the same wooden bucket Elise brought to him yesterday.

As he still had some time to waste, Evan Young took something out from his survival rucksack alongside a foldable multipurpose tool.

The something he took was none other than a packet of digestive biscuits. After leaving the pack on the table for them to enjoy later, Evan Young offered to go outside and help cut the firewood to restock what Esther used in the morning.

It seems that the multipurpose tool in his hand had quite a convenient design. By adjusting the sharpened end position, Evan Young could change from Shovel / Axe / Saw / Hoe freely. The grip of his multipurpose tool could also be extended or retracted based on his needs.

"Little brother, let's come inside and have breakfast." Eins opened the door to the backyard after twenty or so minutes. To his surprise, Evan Young was done with the work of chopping the wood. He also dug around the backyard to remove the weed germination around the edges of their yard.

To his surprise, there's a stalk of useful herb amongst the weeds he tried to remove.

"I'll be coming over," Evan answered Eins' call and made his way back inside the house.

It seems that their breakfast for today was some unfermented buns slowly roasted in an open fire. As it was kneaded with just water and milk before going through with the cooking process, the taste of the bun was quite bland.

"Is there any spare milk in the container?" Evan Young asked.

"Yes," Esther said.

"Can I have that, please? I'll make everyone a cup of drink that will go well with the bread." Evan Young said. His survival bag is no different from a magical treasure box with all kinds of delicious treats to the family.

Taking out five small sachets of instant coffee and sugar, Evan Young prepared five cups of coffee for them to enjoy. The bitterness from the drink was quite hard to the two young children's taste. They quickly accepted it when they were given some digestives biscuits to go along with it.

"Such a flavorful food. What can we do to repay this favor?" Esther looked a little overwhelmed by Evan Young's kindness in sharing what he had with them. But at the same time, she's worried that they had nothing much to return his kindness.

"Please don't overthink about it. It was just a gesture to show that I am grateful for all the hospitality I was given." Evan smiled. The table of five then continued as they allowed Elise to finish the last piece of digestive biscuit.

A little while later, Evan was following Eins and Elric to the farm. And to make sure he could help as much as possible, Evan Young brought his survival bag along. He's convinced that there must be something inside that could give the father and child a hand in bringing more harvest to their crop's field.

But his opinion immediately changed when he saw the field early in the morning.
