Her Mysterious Life.

"Treating someone they just met like a plague is the reason why I asked this. That was abnormal."

"Probably he only treats beauties nicely and not men" it was followed by his laugh.

Somehow it was true, he was the fellow who was only welcoming toward females. As for the males, had he even spared them a glance instead of a glare? Not at least in his presence.

At his response, a frown got between her eyebrows to reside. Her abrupt suspiciousness had been getting the best out of her to the extent that everything around her was appearing questionable to Jiang Ying Yue.

Why her life had out of nowhere became a mystery? She pinched her eyebrow as she felt the overthinking cloud forming again in her mind.

It's enough! It's enough for today!! More than required mental energy had already been exhausted for today!

___

On the other side of the city, a little girl who was all alone in the small dilapidated rented apartment, of about five years was crying while lying on her bed, deep in pain.

Her young body was shivering continuously as she clutched more tightly onto her unicorn stuffed toy, silently praying in her heart for the pain to stop and hoping for her daddy to return soon.

A pitiable murmur came out of her pale blue lips, "Daddy! Please come back soon! Yina is scared all alone! Please!!!" a lone helpless tear left her eye.

She had dipped her head inside the blanket and had tightly shut her eyes closed so that the darkness won't come hovering over her and scare her.

Guo Leiwu had already reached outside the apartment but was currently busy fumbling through his pockets in search of the key. When he was not able to find it even after a long while, being left with no option he rang the doorbell hoping that it wouldn't scare his daughter.

The doorbell brought a fright to the Guo Yina, her shivering fingers tugged the blanket tightly around her. The darkness of outside was scary! Her father had never rung the bell before, who was it then!?

Thinking of the story told by her father that bad people often came to the home when children were alone, the small body couldn't help but cry!

Continuously repeating the first word she had learnt; daddy, a small prayer left from her lips for him to appear quickly.

After ringing the bell for quite some time, Guo Leiwu was frightened when his daughter was still not opening the door. She was not someone who used to sleep so early and always waited for him to come first so how come she was not opening the door this time?

Unconsciously thinking of the worst of situations, his heart grew heavy as he shouted her name. He knew he shouldn't do that as they used to live in the very old building whose soundproofing was almost negligible and his neighbours could be disturbed. But to him, his daughter was more important, his one and only priority.

Hearing the familiar voice falling on her ears, the girl tried to stop crying by holding in her tears resulting in the hiccups. When she again heard the same voice in a more clear tone, she immediately confirmed it was her father.

Shoving the blankets aside, she was only met with darkness and instantly felt the same fear creeping inside her. But knowing it was her father at the door, she looked with her teary fear-stricken gaze here and there before finding her unicorn which was bigger than her whole body.

Holding it tightly, she went down from her bed carefully, still scared of the surroundings as if a ghost would suddenly pop up out of nowhere. Moving forward, hiding behind her unicorn, slowly feeling and making up the dark surroundings she somehow reached the door and let out a small cry, "Daddy?"

Guo Leiwu who had already gone crazy and was about to break the wooden door stopped hearing her voice.

She was...crying?

It was as if somebody had pricked a needle at his heart. Helplessness engulfed him wholly when he leaned slightly towards the door, and knocked three times, "Xiao Yina! It's me, your daddy!! Open the door please."

The next second, the door was opened and he felt a small body crashing onto him. Bending down, he picked the small girl who directly hid her crying face at the crook of his neck. Her tears glistened on his neck when he noticed the darkness surrounding the apartment.

Darkness?

Darn it! He had forgotten that yesterday was the last day to pay the electricity bill!!!

Looking over at his girl he tightened his embrace, patting her back softly while apologising continuously and speaking soothing words to calm her.

She had always been scared of darkness...and today she was staying in darkness for the past couple of hours? The trembling figure in his embrace broke his heart.

"Xiao Yina, Daddy is very very sorry! I forgot that yesterday was the last day to pay the electricity bill." Guo Leiwu knew he had unintentionally made a huge mistake but somehow was grateful that at least she did not faint due to her phobia.

He was terrified just by thinking of the outcome of that possibility and tightened his hold onto the girl, "Daddy is really bad! He let you be in darkness for the past couple of hours. I am sorry!"

She was really scared! Darkness always brought petrifying thoughts to her mind leading her to imagine various scenarios like the darkness would engulf her and many more. She shivered more in her father's protective embrace, "Daddy is not bad! Never! Darkness is but not you!!"

Immediately he pulled his head back to stare at the crying face of the little girl and meticulously asked, "Xiao Yina, is it hurting somewhere? Are you fine? Do you want us to go to the doctor??"

The young girl sniffed, wiping her tears from her fingers, "It was hurting a while back when I was all alone but now it's not hurting anymore. I am now fine, daddy."

Guo Leiwu was not sure if she was speaking the truth or not. Though she was just five years, she was way too mature for her age.

Knowing their financial conditions, she never asked for anything. Even when she used to frequently get unconscious and felt uncomfortable due to her body, she never told him thinking of the high amount of money hospitals ask like the way she had seen on television.

He looked all over her face in search of discomfort or any sort of hint but...there was nothing. Sighing he took out his phone and opened the app to pay the electricity bill. His fingers paused looking at his total amount but still swiped his fingers to pay the bill.

The money that could buy them three months of food was gone to pay the electricity bill.

The corridor where they were standing was right away reflected by their promptly lightened apartment. Entering the apartment, he went to change Guo Yina's home slippers for shoes and took the spare key from the key holder. Coming out of the door, he locked the apartment and headed towards the stairs.

Going out of the building he went a couple of streets across and soon reached a residential area. Showing the permit card to security, he entered one of the regal well-structured buildings and then headed to the 25th floor through the lift.

Standing in front of one of the apartments, Guo Leiwu rang the doorbell. Soon enough, it was opened by an elderly woman, "Aunt Wu."

"Guo Leiwu? And even Xiao Yina is also here." Pleasantly surprised by the sudden visit, she got excited looking at the little girl.

Oh! How much she loved this little girl!!!

"Good evening, Grandma Wu!!!"

"Good evening! Good evening!! Why are you standing outside? Come inside."

Though Guo Yina had stopped shivering and was back to her usual condition, he still knew she was far from fine well-being.

Watching the little girl wiggle in his embrace, he let her go who immediately got down and embraced Mrs Wu. Picking up the young girl, there was a slight change in Mrs Wu's expression as she glanced at Guo Leiwu.

Her body was burning!

Guo Leiwu had nothing but concern and fear sprawled all over his face. Being a cancer patient, his daughter was already weak but due to her fear of darkness, chances of getting fevers and even fainting had increased.

Without making it obvious, she put her fingers on Guo Yina's nerves and after a minute passed him an assuring smile. The smile worked as an antidote for him, calming the brewing storm inside of him a bit. Mrs Wu invited them in and brought glasses of water for him and Guo Yina who were sitting in the living room.

Guo Yina stared at Mrs Wu curiously with her big doe-like eyes when she saw her bringing the tea set before steeping, noticing which Mrs Wu laughed before asking, "Xiao Yina! Have you had dinner yet?"
