A Love Story.

Noticing his intent and undivided attention, she added a bit more, "Moreover, today her fever was not because of her fear of darkness but due to the reason that her body will be soon prone to infection. It was almost like a warning, I have already taken her blood sample and would send it further to detect any infection but because her body did not show any other reaction when I gave her injection, I am sure her immunity has not reached that stage yet."

Guo Leiwu's mind grew numb hearing all of this. During the last check-up, there were no complications, he was even told that surgery would not be necessary if she was regular with her medicines and therapies. Then how come, her health reached this point?

Bearing arduous emotions, he tried to hold himself from crouching and breaking down right there as he heard Aunt Wu continuing.

"Here, more than the cancer her immunity is the problem. Generally, I think it might be due to not getting breastfed properly at the time of her birth that her immunity had not become strong. So, I as a doctor would recommend surgery as soon as possible. It can't be this month or the next one as she needs to go through therapies first to increase the strength of her body."

Guo Yina was his only family; the sole purpose why he was continuing with his life. She entered his life when he was at his lowest and was the only one who had been his pillar for years.

He was blaming himself for not taking good care of her. Had he been more caring towards her, she might not be in so much pain.

Can he be more selfish now that his daughter was already at this stage?

Silently taking off the apron, Guo Leiwu started walking towards the room in which his daughter was sleeping. Watching the sight of his leaving back, Mrs Wu felt her heart breaking. Tremble was visible running over his shoulders.

That was the sight of a vulnerable man, who had nothing to call his own, who was living every single day lying on the shreds of fear that soon whatever he had now to call his own wouldn't be there tomorrow to call his own.

After all, that was something he had grown personal experience in over the years.

Quietly closing the door behind him, he took soft steps to reach the foot of the bed. Staring at the sleeping girl with fondness, at last, he wasn't able to resist anymore and finally crouched down to sit on his knees.

The tears he had kept confined at the depth of his eyes were suddenly set free; pouring like the drops of heavy rainfall, continuous and unremitting.

He was not sure at what exactly he was crying. Hell! He had never even thought in any case, that he, who was an eternal prideful man would one day be crying like this.

He couldn't help but wonder if his daughter would also leave him? Wasn't that what he always got in the end? Emptiness.

He silently sobbed and sobbed for a long time so his daughter wouldn't wake up till he couldn't feel any more tears in his eyes. Throwing his head back, he stared at the ceiling with his hollow eyes blankly.

His mind drifted off to the memories of the first time he held her in his arms, the first time she walked, the first time dadda escaped her lips instead of daddy while blabbering, her first day of school and soon his mind wandered to the mother of her.

As much as he hated her, he was still grateful to her for leaving their daughter behind. She left him...after giving him a glimpse of the beautiful life, she left him alone.

So cruel!

Guo Leiwu's face was wreathed with a derisive smile. His fate was so cruel to let every beautiful person enter his life only to snatch them away!

The derisive smile slowly converted into a laugh, a laugh that was sharp like a knife; capable enough to pierce a soul. Gazing at his daughter, the laugh turned anguished, full of pain.

Snuggling closer to her, he took her little fragile hands in his big hands. Her fingers were cold like ice whereas the tips had turned slightly bluish.

Gently holding the hands he squeezed his eyes shut and brought her hands to his lips. A soft prayer left from his mouth as he replaced his lips with his forehead; begging the god not to snatch the only family of his.

The touch of her cold fingers brought a soothing effect to his abnormally warm forehead. That cold brush was more than enough to act as an aid to his complicated thoughts. The long silence made him arrive to a conclusion, he grew more and more determined to not let his daughter suffer anymore.

Heck with it all! If it takes him to return to that city from where it all started to save his daughter then he will do it!

When he left the City S, he had promised himself that he would never return to that place ever and would keep his daughter away even from its shadows.

Back then he let them snatch it all from him, this time he would be returning to take it all, what was his, to begin with, from them.

----

Early in the morning, the whole of the City B was covered with dark thundering clouds as the rain poured heavily, drenching all the streets of the city. Old Madam Lin paced in the living room anxiously, looking out of the window disappointingly every once in a while.

Old Master Lin who had been watching her pace like this for almost an hour now couldn't take it anymore, "Do you think the rain would stop with you walking like this?"

Hearing his taunt, Old Madam Jiang was annoyed and sneered, "So what else am I supposed to do, Old Man? Just because your muscles have lost the strength to stand for a long time due to old age does not mean that the case is the same with me too."

Old Master Lin was pissed at her reference, "Old Man? Are you forgetting the fact that am not the only one who has aged? Even you are counted as a senior citizen, Old Woman."

"How dare you call me an old woman? Such a shameless fellow!!!"

"As if you have always been polite to me."

"Youu!"

Butler Li who was standing quietly all the while smiled at their bantering. He was already used to it as he had seen them being like this with each other his whole life.

Had he not known their love story, he might have misunderstood that they were forced into an arranged marriage like most of the people.

Old Master Lin and Old Madam Lin studied in the same high school and were best friends. During that time, they used to quarrel every day so other students often used to misunderstand that they were not even fond of each other's sight. But they knew it better.

As much as they quarrelled with each other, they also used to encounter sparks between them once in a while which was only known to them and was always turned a blind eye to.

But it was changed when Old Master Lin had to go for further studies to some other place and they lost contact. For years, Old Madam Lin was depressed because of her untold feelings and felt the last straw when her father chose a guy for her to marry.

Thinking that Old Master Lin had already forgotten her and might not bear the same feelings as her she decided to go on with the marriage. But on the day of marriage, she did not know how but he got the news of her marriage and right before the rituals started, he barged into the hall and had put a full stop to the wedding.

She thought she was hallucinating Old Master Lin standing there in front of the aisle in his full arrogance.

But on realising he was really there after hearing murmurs going around, she had been petrified but still got excited seeing him walk elegantly towards her and just when she had thought he would confess his feelings in front of everyone and would convince her father to break off the unwanted wedding...he popped her dreamy bubble as she felt her right arm being grabbed by somebody, her body getting dragged down the stage and later, she was pulled so hard that she had to run out of the marriage hall to match his steps and speed.

She had cursed him the whole time she was running in her heavy wedding dress. Instead of asking for her hand, he opted to make her run away from the marriage only to ask at the end if she was going to get married.
