Of course, the servants know a different story. Every night of the half-moon, the cries will come from the basement. Only if you are directly above it or perhaps near it will you be able to hear it. Rumors only began when a servant told the outside world about it and promptly died the next day.
Avina had never heard about such a thing. One, because she was never close enough to the other servants to hear about things like this. And two, she was never close enough to hear their cries.
