Godwin's Crown

Godwin's Crown. The name of Park Jaehee's favorite historical romance novel. More accurately, it was her favorite until she transmigrated into the novel. Moreover, it's the body of the antagonist, Artemis Kratiste, who is exiled at the end of the story. Good news: She didn't die. Bad news: She can't go back to her world unless she sits on the throne. What should she do? Live peacefully and get exiled from her country? or find a way to survive the endless schemes and conspiracies in acquiring the throne?

Lachesis Crossdresses

"Wake up young lady", a stern voice echoed through the room. I blinked and opened my eyes. My mouth swung open. This wasn't my room. It was decorated lavishly but in a medieval style. I clearly remembered that I had been burnt but strangely there were no scars on my body. I rubbed my eyes for a clearer vision. Looking more closely, my skin tone was much lighter and smoother. But I was even more shocked when I saw the yellow eyed old lady in my dream standing before me wearing a butler's outfit. Was it a trend for old women to cross-dress?

' Park Jaehee,. Did you recognize me?", the woman said with a concerning tone.

You are the lady from my dream. Wait. Am I still dreaming?"

"No, you are not dreaming. Let me explain everything since it's our fault."

I couldn't understand what she meant by 'our fault'. She started explaining.

" You are currently in the novel 'Godwin's Crown'. The three women you saw in your dream were me and my sisters. We are the "Fates". In a nutshell, we decide when people die and we accidentally took your life early in your world and as compensation we let you live in the world of this novel. It would be too complicated to make you understand the existence of other worlds, but since it was our mistake, you are given a chance to return to your world if you acquire the throne. You know the novel really well so it's up-to you."

I was shocked.... it was as if someone had nuked my entire life and said sorry, it was a mistake. I wanted to strangle the her right then and there but I had more matters to worry about. I liked reading the novel but living in it was not what I wanted. First of all I needed to see who I was in the novel.

"Do you have a name?" I asked the her. She looked towards me with those uncanny amber eyes. It sent shivers down my spine.

"It's Lachesis."

"Are you going to stay with me here the entire time?" I interrogated.

"Yes. I am posing as your maid here so if anything goes wrong I'll be there to help."

"What kind of help?" I questioned.

" I will not answer that".

I was starting to feel irritated so I ordered her to bring me a mirror. I took the mirror from her hand to get a glimpse of my identity. The mirror dropped from my hand. I stared in horror. My day couldn't get any worse than this. Just why? What did I do receive such rotten luck!O

Smooth, silky hair fell down my shoulders, the colour as dark as the midnight sky. Porcelain skin and beautiful, striking pale grey eyes. It was the face of Artemis Kratiste, the antagonist of the novel, doomed to exile because of interfering between the crown prince, Damien and the protagonist, Alyssa. Just like every typical cliche of historical romance novels, due to jealousy, she harms Alyssa and is exiled to a faraway kingdom. The only reason I liked this novel was because of the author's style of writing, otherwise it was just like the other novels. Now I felt different seeing the novel from Artemis's perspective.

Alyssa Kanelos was the illegitimate daughter of Duke Kanelos, the prime minister and a supporter of the king. She lived as a commoner until the age of 16 when Duke Kanelos came to take her to his house and accepted her as his heir. She learned proper etiquette and manners of a noble and had her debut at her 18th birthday. It was at that event that the crown prince noticed her and he fell in love at first sight. Damien proposed to her and she, being a soft hearted girl, accepted the engagement. The only obstacle was Artemis who had loved Damien from when she was a child. She confessed many times but was harshly rejected by him. Like a fool, she insulted and verbally abused Alyssa's status under the spell of jealousy. The king, who didn't approve of Artemis's behaviour, forcefully engaged her to the third prince, Leos who was known be a drug addict. Leos, displeased with this sudden betrothal, accused her of adultery. The king, content with lowering Archduke Kratiste's position, exiled her far away from the capital. On the way, Artemis was ambushed and killed by the prince's men who were disguised as bandits. A fitting end for a villain. But not in the scenario where I am the villain!

Even so, I felt a little bit disappointed in her. She could have lived better, rather than being a lovesick pathetic woman who couldn't rely on herself.

All of a sudden, I got a plan. It was a gamble. The risk was that I would die horribly . But it would be worth it if I succeeded.

I really like the name Artemis cuz it reminded me of the mythical greek goddess of hunting. P.S Artemis means 'butcher' so there's gonna be a lot of killing done by her. I forgot to tag it gender-bender so I 'm gonna fix it.

Have some idea about my story? Comment it and let me know.
