Godwin's Crown

Godwin's Crown. The name of Park Jaehee's favorite historical romance novel. More accurately, it was her favorite until she transmigrated into the novel. Moreover, it's the body of the antagonist, Artemis Kratiste, who is exiled at the end of the story. Good news: She didn't die. Bad news: She can't go back to her world unless she sits on the throne. What should she do? Live peacefully and get exiled from her country? or find a way to survive the endless schemes and conspiracies in acquiring the throne?

Artemis beats the shit out of someone

On a stressful day at the barracks, sitting in his tent, calculating the preparations for war, Arsene was greeted by a handsome young, about the same height as him with jeweled grey eyes and sleek navy blue hair. He looked like a charming young man, almost as if he were a noble, but nobles didn't have the perfect precise posture he had, his stance, calm and ready.

"State your name and house." the prince ordered, still staring at him with curiosity. He needed to know which elite house had sent their son to war.

"Art Castella, Your Highness. I am a knight of House Kratiste". he replied, completely unaware of what the prince was thinking.

The prince had lingering suspicions about him. Why would Archduke Kratiste send his own knight here instead of coming himself? But the prince decided to leave this matter unattended. He knew he would find out sooner or later.

...

Artemis was confused and troubled. The novel didn't mention a meeting with the second prince at all. Did the story plot change because of her decisions? That meant the future was not predictable and anything was within the realm of possibility. She kept walking, not knowing that soon she would crash into the general and right hand man of the prince.

Thud! "Whoa! Stop there young lad." a man with a strong build, hair the color of oak wood and light green eyes held her. Artemis immediately recognized him. From one glance, he would be considered harmless, but she knew who he was in the novel, Callis Eliades, the second princes trusted friend and general who only had appeared a few times with the prince. Beneath his harmless exterior lay a beast who had slain thousands and thousands in wars and conquests. All for his unwavering loyalty towards the prince.

"Oh! You are the new recruit. There aren't many rooms left but you can go stay in room 501 on the west wing. See ya again lad!" he shouted as he jogged away. Artemis went away, hoping to never meet him again.

It wasn't until much later that she arrived at room 501. She knocked on the hard wood, in case anyone was there. No one answered. The door creaked as she entered, horrified by the state of the room, it was guaranteed that someone lived there otherwise it would have been much, much cleaner. The entire place was littered with unwashed clothes, bedsheets and the stink of sweat, in addition to the nasty smell, the roof was leaking droplets of water. Whoever lived here, Artemis wanted to choke him to death.

Chris Manolis was an average soldier and just like any other soldier, his room was a terrifying mess. He assumed that his roommate would be understanding but that was not the case at all when he saw a young soldier sleeping on the the other bed, the room, spick and span, not a trace of dust in visibilty, his clothes were nowhere to be seen. Artemis rolled her eyes and yawned, disturbed by the interruption of her sleep. When she noticed the man standing at door amazed by what he saw, she exploded.

"You son of a.....", she almost sweared, when she spotted him bowing down on his knees, apologizing for the room. " You think this was easy to clean. I should punched you in the ass instead.", she shouted. But she couldn't go farther than that, because Chris was the type of man who reminded people of puppies, extremely cute puppies. " I am sorry for making you clean my room. I'll repay you in anyway possible. My name's Chris. Chris Manolis.", he stared at her from below with innocent pure puppy eyes. She literally fainted inside. That was a deadly hit to the heart.

"Art Castella. And I am not very pleased to meet you.", she remarked. Chris apologized repeatedly until the man in front of him finally gave him mercy.

"Lead me to the barracks to meet the others.", she ordered, because she needed information on the mercenary skills. She was down in the dumps when she arrived, for every single mercenary was loitering around, because it was their day off. She thought that they would earnestly practise since the other kingdom Manos had not shown any signal of arrival. Who would've thought that the Second prince won a war with these poorly trained mercenaries?

A couple of them welcomed her as they slapped her in the back. One of them started talking.

" You know the Second Prince, he's just a weak bastard of that fucking retard who's sitting up there on the throne. There are rumors that he can't even swing a sword. Bet his mother got favor as she licked her way into the king's bed.". Artemis was smiling amidst the assholes while thinking, 'These fuckers have no right to say shit. The prince won the war all by himself and the general and these trash are barking of how unfair their lives are.' She stayed calm, trying not to cause a commotion on her first day until her last string of sanity snapped when they said,' Now that you mention him, maybe his mother slept with a lot of men as a whore, cause that bastard doesn't even look like the king.'

The next few minutes were complete chaos, for Artemis had kicked him in the crotch, stepped on his face and shouted words that could not and should not be mentioned. The prince himself came to see the uproar when he recognized the familiar face he had seen this morning, kicking a mercenary who already looked disfigured and lost a couple of teeth. Art Castella was mercilessly thrashing him until he was satisfied with the result while Chris watched from behind. Chris was certain of one thing: Art Castella was not to be messed with.

I wasn't very creative with title today but it's the truth. She really knocked the shit out of his mouth. He would never trashtalk ever again, the least he could do was move.
