It needs processed philosopher stones as catalyst. They even wrote neatly the recipe for me. The elves didn't need magic metals since they use divine ores to forge metals and steels. Divine iron, titanium, etc, etc. It is more convenient to use. It is useable only inside Astral Plane. The Divine Metal is created by pouring your divine power to mithril fully until its properties changes.
