1 Chapter 1 - Feng Jie

Feng Jie meditated quietly on the ground, trying his best to cultivate. It had been a month since Alex transferred to this new world after a drunk driver lost control and killed a pedestrian walking on the sidewalk.

He had been that pedestrian. His new body was of a 14 year old boy named Feng Jie, who after getting his cultivation base destroyed by a Senior Disciple, fell into a lake and drowned. When his fellow Junior Disciples pulled the dead body out, it sprung to life with not the soul of Feng Jie, but of Alex Sander.

When Alex panicked and asked around in confusion, his fellow disciples assumed he'd simply lost his memories after escaping death.

His name was Feng Jie, a Junior Disciple of Outer Disciple Cheng Yi, a member of the Divine Dragon Sect. Despite being a Junior Disciple of the 3rd strongest Outer Disciple, he had the worse progress of the entire sect. Since coming to the sect at 1st Layer Low Stage a year ago, Feng Jie had yet to even get to 1st Layer Mid Stage! Absolutely appalling!

The higher the layers of a cultivator's base, the more powerful they became. Each layer was separated into four stages: Low, Mid, Upper, Master. The average cultivator could easily reach 1st Layer Upper in a year's time, in fact the second weakest person in the sect was at least 1st Layer Mid Stage!

It was fortunate that because Feng Jie's cultivation base was so weak that it took 20 days to build a new cultivation base, as anyone else would've been lucky to take years, if not decades.

Since then, Feng had been working hard on his cultivation, as the sect's Divine Library was only open once a month for anyone who wasn't at least Inner Disciple and as a mere disciple of an Outer Disciple, he could only choose one technique to train. Feng Jie would need to carefully think about what type of foundation he wanted to build, and the first technique he learned would greatly affect that.

Would he be one with the wind, someone whose speed was unmatched? Then a movement technique was needed. Would he be one to shatter mountains and make the ground quake with a step? Then a body training technique was needed. Would he be as mysterious as the night, one whose presence seemed to defy the senses? Then a mental technique was needed.

Feng Jie would need to decide what could benefit him the greatest, as choosing to cultivate the wrong techniques was wasting the second chance at life he'd been given.

Keeping his breathing deep and slow, Feng Jie cleared his mind, letting it become as empty as air. Slowly opening his eyes, his mind had entered a state of complete empty focus, allowing him to see the Qi in the surrounding nature. Situated on a mountain, the sect allowed only the Core Disciples at the top, whereas someone like him was granted permission to practice next to the road that lead to the sect at the bottom of the mountain, as long as they didn't hinder anyone.

Closing back his eyes, Feng Jie began to focus his mind, trying to gather the Qi into his body. One minute, five minutes, ten, fifteen minutes passed before he opened his eyes up. Breathing heavily, Feng Jie was covered in sweat, and still only managed to retain 5% of the absorbed Qi. In comparison, the average cultivator in the 1st Layer Low stage was supposed to at least be able to retain 25% of absorbed Qi.

Getting up, Feng Jie sighed at seeing at it getting close to sunset. He began to jog up the road to the sect, as when the sunset began, the Divine Library would finally open for Outer Disciples and disciples of Outer Disciples. It would only be open for an hour for them, and after that then they were once again left to themselves.

After about 40 minutes, he finally reached the entrance of the sect. The curved green gate was made of pure emerald, with the words "DIVINE DRAGON" beautifully carved on each side. Exhausted, Feng Jie sat down in front of the gate to rest for a moment. Blinking, someone appeared right in front of him without so much as a sound.

Shocked, he nearly fell off the path, which would have made him likely tumble to his death. At the last second, the person grabbed him as his feet reached the edge. Looking at his feet and feeling the person grabbing him, Feng Jie had a rush of fear before a feeling of gratitude.

"Ah, thanks. Sorry I-"

As he thanked the stranger, Feng Jie raised his head to see a blue robed beauty with long blue hair that flowed like a pure river to her waist down her back. A purple veil trimmed with gold hid her face while her golden glowing eyes lazily watched him. His voice was caught in his throat, as he was scared to blink lest she disappear just as she'd arrived.

After several minutes had passed, neither had made a sound, when she suddenly lifted him with one hand, placing him away from the edge. Letting go, they both realized they were the same height, both slim, neither had any expectations of the other. While this didn't seem much to Feng Jie, the girl had very rarely had anyone not expect something of her on first impressions. With a sidestep, she vanished without a trace.

Blinking, Feng Jie suddenly bursted into laughter. He wasn't even entirely sure if it had been all his imagination or not, but regardless it helped cheer him up after a long day. Glancing over to the horizon, Feng Jie realized the sunset had already begun! Rushing through the gate, he ran to the Divine Library. As he entered the towering building, an elderly man warned him with a frown that there was 30 minutes left to find a technique.

Respectfully bowing to the elder, Feng Jie entered Level 1 of the library.
