1 Beginnings

A long time ago, before the peaceful days as they call them today. The world was attacked by gods. They had come down to a decision that humans no longer deserved to stay alive and that they deserved to die by their judgment. Luckily, the wizards of Valor had foreseen the future and created a race of warriors who had the strength and power to kill gods themselves. This race could only be of royal blood amongst the wizards and they were called god slayers and they have protected this world for the past centuries. well, until now

Ron Carter was looking at himself in the mirror, smartly dressed in his new school uniform. He looked quite dashing, in the maroon jacket, gray trousers, and striped tie that brought out his bright blue intelligent eyes, he had inherited from his father who he barely knew because he had died when he was just six. He was a fourteen-year-old boy with an already perfectly built body and very dark hair that was cut short on the sides.

Two days ago, he had discovered that he had superhuman strength when he was at school trying to make the vending machine work after it failed countless Times and out of anger, he found himself punching through it with monster strength. He hadn't told anyone about this, not even his mom when two mysterious men in suits came to his former school and seemed to know much about what was happening to him at the moment. They offered him a scholarship to a prestigious school in a place called Valor said to be in Switzerland.

"Brighton Academy" is what they called it, they said that the rest will be explained when he arrives at the Academy and that he would put everyone in danger if he ever stayed in Mayfield, a small town in Canada. He accepted and he received his uniform within a couple of hours after the meeting.

He stepped down the stairs carrying his suitcase and backpack.

There were a few flashes of light before he heard his mom say,

"There you are. My little genius," She said. Trying to look at the camera screen to see if she had taken perfect pictures,

"Mom. Stop, this is embarrassing" Ron complained as he settled down the suitcase and everything he had to carry with him.

'Am just taking photos of my handsome boy as he walks down. How is that embarrassing?." She laughed as she snapped more photos of him in his brand-new Brighton uniform. She didn't know about any of thee powers or the men in suits, all she was told was that he had been given a scholarship to a prestigious school in Switzerland and she had signed all the needed paperwork to approve his transfer.

Ron wasn't planning to tell her anything about his powers and had chosen to go with that story. He felt a bit guilty though, but she had already faced a lot with her husband dying and leaving her to take care of their son alone.

There was a loud honk, as a black van stopped right in front of their pooch

'I guess that's my ride." He said, staring at his mom. She smiled while trying so hard not to cry.

"Be careful, Ron. And am so proud of you." She hugged him so tight that he could almost feel his bones pop.

"Thanks, mom," he said, then head for the front and into the van that had parked outside.

In the van, there were other two kids, a beautiful blonde girl with very white skin and bright red eyes and a chubby boy with the same eye color but with short black hair and brown skin. Both dressed in the same uniform as his.

"Hey, am Nathan." said the boy with great enthusiasm and energy,

"Aurora," the girl also introduced herself.

"I'm Ron...Ron Carter.." he said, trying to make a good impression for the girl to at least notice him. Ron had always been a fan of beautiful girls but didn't know why he never got one he used to think that maybe it was his anti-social behaviour, but he heard that girls liked that bad boy so maybe he wasn't bad enough.

"So, you're the human everyone has been talking about," Nathan said. " I couldn't believe it till I saw it myself. You don't even look like one of us."

"Like what?" Ron didn't know what the boy was talking about. Were they some alien race and he was half-alien, which was impossible because if he was, he would be like superman or a Martian.

Aurora giggled, "Like a god slayer dumbass."

Ron looked completely confused with what she had just said. He hadn't yet found out why he had these powers, everything was happening so fast that he didn't even have time to think about it.

"We are people who can kill gods and we are trainees. Brighton is an academy for slayers like us." Nathan tried to simplify everything for him,

"I can't explain all this properly because I have never been to the Academy. Have you Aurora? " He turned to Aurora who simply said nothing. But just stared at him and smirked.

Ron just looked at the two as they smiled at each other weirdly, were they a couple? Because it was getting a bit creepy seeing two people flirt without talking.

"Aren't we supposed to board a plane to Switzerland? Where Valor is." He was confused, they hadn't stopped after a long ride. The airport wasn't even thirty minutes from his place.

"Valor is a kingdom, a magical one to be exact. The reason why you thought it exists is that once you tell a normal person about Valor it appears in their mind that they've seen it or know it from somewhere. But no human can go there. No human except you." Aurora explained.

"We are almost there so don't get so worried," Nathan said, with a huge smile on his face that Ron was now finding quite weird and creepy.

The car stopped at the school's gate. And an old man was standing there waiting for them to arrive.

He slid the door open and welcomed them, "Mr. Nathan and Lady Aurora, welcome to Brighton Academy. We are honoured to have you here your majesties."

"Majesties? I have been traveling with the royals." Ron thought surprised by the title they had used to address the two.

The man hadn't noticed Ron yet. They all stepped out of the car and he noticed that the air had drastically changed. He could feel more energetic.

The old man suddenly noticed him and the first thing he said was, "Is this the slave?" the man said disgustedly by Ron's normal looks.

"No. He is with us. A new god slayer. Please call him Mr. Ron and apologize for calling him a slave." Aurora sounded quite serious with her words.

The old man felt rather disrespected by Aurora's command but had no choice but to bow down and apologize to Ron as her majesty had ordered.

Aurora smiled at him. As they were all escorted along through the gate.

******************

Ron was now in the student hall where they were all supposed to be addressed as first years. And he still didn't have a single clue on what was going on.

The hall was filled with other students all dressed in the same uniform as his and all with one thing in common that he didn't have. They all had bright red eyes despite their size and gender. He was the only different one. The boy with blue eyes.

Every student was busy chattering with each other and having conversations.

Being seated at the back of the hall, he was able to notice that the entire first years were beauty queens, It was absolute heaven on earth. He prayed if he could just get one of them and his entire life would be perfect. Superpowers, a hot girlfriend, and a lot of money. Bet they would make a movie about him someday if he has all those three of which he only had one.

"Good evening everyone." A voice echoed throughout the entire hall and the student chatter immediately stopped.

It was a boy, slightly older than him, taller, with bright red eyes that were being guarded by a pair of silver spectacles. Ron had come to call potter glasses since they resembled harry potter's one of his mom's favourite movie characters. The boy's uniform was different, instead of a maroon jacket, he's was blue. Maybe he was a member of the student council.

"I would like to start by welcoming you all to Brighton Academy of god-slayers." all of the students cheered.

"I am Kalaban Brighton and I am the head boy of this great institution. The reason why you are seeing me here today is that the headmaster had some work to do and is currently off-world. So, in the meantime, you will undergo orientation for two days starting tomorrow…."

Ron found himself sneezing out of nowhere. The girl who was seated in front of him had worn a perfume he was maybe allergic to. He sneezed again, this time a loud one that echoed throughout the entire hall.

Ron stopped sneezing when he noticed everyone was looking at him. Their red eyes all stared at him, some had confusion written over their faces. Did he just embarrass himself? Is that why everyone was looking at him?

"Oh, Ron Carter you're already here." Kalaban quickly noticed him and scoffed.

"The first human to ever join this academy. Welcome to Brighton, and the world of magic. " He smiled at him.
