6 Chapter 6 – Duel at The Ocean

Matthaios, the Champion of Sparta, took the dive and was sent into the oceanic surface that is Atlantis. There were no ships set to sail for him, nor any backup soldiers that would help him throughout his trip to see King Triton. And about his status of going incognito, he disguised as an Atlantean soldier for him to get into the sunken city with ease.

Inside the water world, the soldiers of Atlantis let him. They know a little about the Spartan Demi-god being tasked to get inside to see their king, and now he makes his way to the city as he saw the gigantic statue of their former king, Poseidon. The statue has the replica of his trident, and the legitimate one is wielded by Triton himself.

The Demi-god blended into the Atlantean militia to get into King Triton's throne room, entering it with the soldiers. It was almost a stealth mission for him, and he has to prepare if something has come up that might bring him to immediate danger. He was doing a great job of acting like an Atlantean soldier and pretend that he is one of them.

It was so pretentious yet risky, and they seem to buy it. Furthermore, Triton wants his lance back but Matthaios has it, making it a situation that might give him a hard time if they found out. This is turning to be a struggle for him since he wouldn't keep up anymore, waiting for the soldiers to get out of Triton's lair before ditching his costume.

Once the soldiers left the room, the Demi-god took his helmet off, revealing his legitimate identity to the new King of Atlantis. It made Triton stand up from his throne, admiring the Spartan Demi-god's skillful tactics. "Very well done, Spartan. You managed to bypass my guards."

"King Triton…" Matthaios reveals his god-like armor after removing its Atlantean plating. Holding the Blades of Athena still.

"What brings you here, Champion of Sparta?" Triton asked while holding the Trident of Poseidon.

"Is a simple talk forbidden here in Atlantis?" He looked at the new King of Atlantis, asking if they would have a simple chat.

"I do not forbid it, Spartan. I condone such actions." King Triton remained where he is.

"Well, that's what I came for. A discussion with you would be nice, King Triton." Matthaios kneeled in front of the King of Atlantis.

"After your father killed mines? Sure, let us talk about your father's actions." Triton reminds him of the gruesome death of Poseidon in the hands of the Ghost of Sparta.

"I have heard that Poseidon received a horrible death from my father to the point that only a little speaks about it…" He heard the stories of how Kratos killed Poseidon.

"Oh, Kratos. My cousin… He gouged my father's eyes out after a brutal beatdown that made Olympus drown with the waters of Atlantis. Yet you pathetic mortals celebrate it? How excruciating." He is ashamed of how they glorify Poseidon's death courtesy of Kratos.

"You are mistaken from what am I, King Triton. You belittle me because of what my father did? Shouldn't you be terrified?" Matthaios' hints of rage show.

"Why would I, Champion of Sparta? There are more reasons why I do." Triton dared to taunt the Demi-god.

"Reasons such as King of Atlantis?" The Demi-god starts to show his disrespectful remarks.

"That harlot Aphrodite… Isn't she the mother of yours?" Triton includes Aphrodite in their heated exchange of words.

"How dare you talk about my mother like that?!" Matthaios was now fueled with anger, and just how King Triton likes it, he takes advantage of it.

"You are the resemblance of your father… Preferring brawn over brains." Triton chuckled just to add insult to injury.

Matthaios' eyes glowed red, indicating that he is now filled with pure rage and hatred. But no, he isn't making his move yet. King Triton steps out from his throne and goes in front of the Spartan Demi-god, issuing a challenge for him to finish.

"Give me the Lance." King Triton asks for his stolen Lance.

"No!" Matthaios would remove his ability to breathe underwater if he surrenders Triton's Lance.

"Fine, keep it in one condition." Triton had a staredown with the Champion of Sparta.

"And that is?" The Demi-god tilts his head to ask for the condition.

The throne room began ascending with the commands of Triton, turning it into an arena. "You think I would let you without having a duel with me? First of who drops his weapon or his balance loses… And the victor chooses the consequences of the defeated."

"I accept your puny challenge, King Triton." Matthaios would love to have a contest with the King of Atlantis.

"Puny? Hmph, how about this?" King Triton began moving the Trident, attempting to hit Matthaios with it.

Matthaios uses both the Lance and the Blade to fight Triton, coming up with his strikes with it. King Triton guarded all of his offensive movements, hitting him with the Trident's edges. They are just getting started and it seems like the battle between them would be legendary if it has audiences to watch it. A Demi-god from Sparta fighting the rightful heir for the throne of Atlantis? It is indeed epic.

King Triton tries to bolt him with the Trident's Lightning, but Matthaios thought of evading it though the lightning would follow him no matter what he does. The Demi-god uses the water against the one who rules it, restraining Triton's movements with the strong pressure of water.

They were opposing each other's control of the forces of water, but Triton was the one who is winning the combat due to his dominant favor. But the Demi-god wouldn't drop his guard that easy, he is determined enough to fight his way in to defeat the King of Atlantis.

"Your rage is holding you back, Spartan." King Triton insults Matthaios during their exchange of hits.

"No, it gives me a reason why you should face defeat," Matthaios replied while defending himself.

"Do something!" Triton sends him into the ceiling of the arena, but he swam to recover and get back to battle.

Matthaios hits Triton with the edge of the Lance, making him stagger due to how strong it is. The King was caught off-guard by it, and one who has the upper hand now is the Spartan Demi-god. He couldn't use the flames of the Blades of Athena this time since he is underwater, so he decided to wield the Nemean Cestus to exert more offense that he desperately wanted to.

He began striking down the King of Atlantis with the gauntlets, and it was heavy enough to pierce through his armor. He could feel each hit he does, and it is impactful enough to make him step back and take all of it since he is now defenseless. It made him drop the Trident, leaving himself open and this gave Matthaios to knock him down using the heavy-duty gauntlets.

Triton has been defeated by the Spartan Demi-god using its pure and raw strength, and the King of Atlantis admits it. Matthaios is a better warrior no matter what surface he is placed on, he is just strong as his father Kratos. He gets up using the Trident of Poseidon, congratulating him on his victory.

"You… You surpassed my expectations. You are just as vengeful as your father." King Triton clings to the Trident while proclaiming him the glorious victor.

Matthaios is catching his breath heavily, and it only means one thing: He is on the verge of killing the one of is in front of him and it is King Triton whom he defeated in a friendly contest. He strangles the King and smashes him to his throne, tightening his grip on his shoulders to make him feel an agonizing discomfort.

"You win, Matthaios! There is no need to do this nonsense!" King Triton screamed for help, but no one could hear inside the arena.

"You are just a helpless entity now, Triton. Feel. My-" Matthaios was about to crush his head using the Nemean Cestus, but a familiar voice messes with his head once again.

"There is no need to take the King of Atlantis' life, Matthaios. Spare him, he is now considered as a hostile threat." Athena was the one who is speaking inside his head.

"No one is stopping me now, Athena." He insists to wipe Triton out of existence.

"The entirety of Greece would be consumed by the ocean, Champion of Sparta. I command you to get back to Olympus immediately." Athena warns him for the last time.

Matthaios threw Triton around, deciding to spare him after receiving a warning from the Goddess of Wisdom. He began walking out of the arena which made Triton laugh. "Too bad, your aunt holds you back as well. Keep the Lance and leave Atlantis immediately."

He ignored what Triton said, swimming out of the city of Atlantis before the guards could even sense his presence as an intruder. He arose on where he landed, climbing Mount Olympus again to see and confront Athena. Once he gets to the top of the cliff, he sees Athena and Aphrodite arguing about what their decisions are for him.

"You should have left him to kill Triton, Athena!" Aphrodite defends what her son wants.

"Again, you do not see what the consequences are, Aphrodite," Athena replies calmly.

Matthaios walked into them, and he was immediately embraced by his mother. "Are you hurt, my son?"

"I'm fine, mother…" He might be alright thanks to Aphrodite, but he is starting to despise Athena for her decisions.

"By the Gods, Matthaios. I told you not to take Triton's life." Athena wasn't impressed with how it turned out.

"I don't like the way he talked about you Goddesses…" He admits that he was driven by uncontrollable anger.

Aphrodite held his chin up, using her abilities to get rid of the wrath that her son is experiencing. "I told you not to let yourself be controlled by your rage."

"I'm sorry, mother…" Matthaios is now reverting to his side of positivity, getting relieved by what his mother did.

"Lecture your son, Aphrodite, and get him prepared. He is going to the Underworld tomorrow."

To be continued…
