44 44. Where Is My Donkey?

Hunter felt his body lose all its energy and drop with a thud. His vision turned dark, and his thoughts drowned into a void. He still felt completely conscious, but a strange hum continuously echoed in his ears. 

There were voices that he didn't recognize. Words that he understood but made no sense. But the name that repeated again and again in those voices was known—his own. 

"Rex…"

"Rex, run away…"

"Please don't die, Rex…"

Who the pained, fearful, and feminine voice belonged to, Hunter didn't know. But the emotions that filled the voice were clear as day. 

Time passed, and just as Hunter felt he could hear more, the familiar chime rang.
