Let them know.

The desert was quiet.

Two parties were standing in front of one another: on one side were the humans. Forty-eight people in line, in complete silence, while one was at the very frontline with his arms folded. On the other side, there were those jackal-headed monster, each one of them was carrying two golden sickles, on their wrist and ankles were pieces of jewellery and on their head, behind the long and sharp ears, the Nemes.

Nemes were pieces of striped headcloth worn by the pharaohs in ancient Egypt. It covered the nape of the neck, also extending a little way down the back, and had lappets, two large flaps which hung down behind the ears and in front of both shoulders. Other than that they were wearing a typical skirt made of linen. They were showing their razor teeth: sharps and long. A perfect combination to rip to shreds flesh and to create a massive amount of pain to their victims. Saliva was dripping down as if they were imaging what tasty meal was before them.

There were at least two hundred of them, arranged perfectly in lines.

The Miners flinched... they were scared shitless. All of them were having the impression that a guillotine was about to chop their head off.

This time, in front of all those soldiers, there was a winged black snake. On top of his head a creature with red skin, human features and a face that looked like of a fennec fox: he was dressing similarly as the others, the only difference was that in his hands there were no sickles. He was carrying a long golden staff which culminated in an Ankh, the symbol of life.

He jumped out of the reptile, his height reaching 3 meters, half-naked with a typical physique of a bodybuilder.

Both leaders of the groups started advancing toward each other until they were face to face.

" Are you, this time, the envoy sent to finalize the trade?" A deep voice came out of the monster.

"Yes, my name is Lucio, and I am here on behalf of the Italian Government to express our willingness to open a new trade route between our two nations."

The fact that they were able to communicate with each other was the proof of how in reality humankind, behind the curtains, was commercing with alien races.

" I am Setekh, creation of Seth, God of the desert and bringer of chaos and violence."

"And those behind you are... "

"Anubites, lowly creations of Anubis, God of death and Supreme Lord of the Underworld.

" And why did you bring an army of them?" asked warily Lucio. He was suspicious: the higher-ups were sure that this trade was a simple one and sent him alone thinking it was enough.

" Relax, human. I just wanted to take for a walk my Wadjet. And they serve as a mean of protection, and my personal guards." responded as if wrongfully accused while pointing at his Black cobra.

" Protection or... showing off your strength and make me scared?"

"Whatever, human. Believe what you want. So, I see you brought your part of the deal. Let's fulfil mine then."

After saying this, Setekh pulled a ring off his finger and gave it to Lucio. The ring was golden and had one particular inscription that reads "ᛋ ᛏ ᛟ ᚱ ᚫ ᚷ ᛖ".

"This is a storage ring, made by those ugly dwarves. As you can imagine, it can store things. Inside you'll find 50 kilos of Compto as per agreed on. "

"Then I'll take my leave and hand over them to you."

Lucio wanted to finish this trade and flee as quickly as possible. He had another mission to accomplish, but the strange situation made him think of Setekh being unworthy of his trust. He was thinking of contacting the Government and ask for new instructions or how to proceed.

He started turning around and walking back to the Miners.

It was then.

A large red hand grabbed his wrist, almost breaking it, his sharp nails sinking and blood started flowing.

"Kuhuk!" Lucio growled.

"Bastard, what are you doing!" And shouted.

" We said one person per kilo. If you go away, won't I get only 49? " grinned Setekh.

"Then I'll give you back one-"

"No, no. We don't do that here. The covenants must be maintained until the very end, without changes. But you don't have to worry, my men's here will bring your precious Compto personally, to your Govern."

Epiphany dawned upon Lucio and horror and fear appeared on his face.

'Things shouldn't have turned this way! Monsters shouldn't be able to escape from the Ruins!' he thought.

"~ Divinity of Peito ~ " Lucio started chanting to free himself from the grip, nonetheless, the other red hand, from behind, grasped his head and started squeezing it hard: blood began streaming down from his eyes, nose and mouth.

"Huaaaaaaaak!"

An agonizing cry of pain reverberated in the desert.

Realizing that it was too late to fight, Lucio watched the frightened Miners, until his gaze stopped onto the young man:

" [ Run ]. Let them know. "

SPLAT!

The head exploded.

There's a reason why they are called "Myths" and why they are able to become part of the collective imagination since the beginning of humanity. And the Kraken was fully demonstrating that his position as the ruler of the ocean was not undeserved.

"We will detonate the Theodore Roosevelt inside his mouth."

Silence descended into the control room of the Vinson.

"Sir... I don't think it's a good idea... and how do we know it will swallow it?"

"It's the only idea, official. Conventional weapons don't leave even a scratch on his skin, and we can't let the planes take off due to the terrible weather. Reinforcements can't arrive here because all world is in chaos: we are all alone.

And I do I know? I don't. I only read about them in my son's fantasy books, and there, one of their abilities was to eat everything that stood in front of them.

Contact the Roosevelt and tell them my decision. They need to leave the ship in five minutes and embark into the USS Dewey.

*pointing to a map on a table and using the Kraken as the centre.*

Send the USS Gridley, the USS Sterett and the USS Wayne E. Meyer to the North of the Kraken and the USS Russell, USS Paul Hamilton and USS Preble to the South: remember, they must go at full speed and flee because they risk being annihilated. We need to divert his attention while we prepare the Roosevelt! Meanwhile, we and all the other ships will retreat as fast as possible to the East. I don't know you, but I want to be far away when the carrier will detonate.

What are you waiting for? EXECUTE THE ORDERS!"

"YES SIR"

-Inside the USS Theodore Roosevelt control deck-

" Rear Admiral, a communication from the Vinson. The Admiral wants us to leave the ship, compromise the nuclear reactors and send the ship at full speed inside the Kraken's mouth."

The man looked at his official as if he had gone mad. An incredulous expression was hanging on his face.

"Well, it looks like the old man has finally gone senile."

"Then sir, what do we do?" someone asked.

"What do you mean? We execute of course! GO!"

In less than a minute the fleet started to enact the orders like a well-oiled machine: no mistakes were allowed, the survival of the fleet depended on that plan.

The six destroyers commenced by accelerating at maximum velocity toward their assigned directions.

The Kraken, watching so many preys taking different paths, thought they were trying to escape and unleashed his hundreds of tentacles.

One ship got grabbed and blew up immediately. The others were, of course, firing everything they got, but, at most, they were only itching the mythical monster. Again, this time three ships fell into the "hands" of the monster: one was sent in the air with a casual motion, another got smashed into pieces and the last one was dragged down in the ocean.

The last two destroyers, fearlessly, continued to advance regardless of the imminent death they were going toward to.

The Kraken couldn't understand.

' Why they continue to persist? They are so weak and frail. I can obliterate them just with a whisper.'

Was, probably, what was he thinking at that moment. Still, his nature made him grasp another ship and sank it.

There was only one left.

The Kraken felt annoyed: these insects were struggling and fighting instead of being terrified and fearful.

He didn't like that.

' Why? '

'You think you can win? You think you can survive? No... You are alive because I let you live! '

The Kraken enraged captured the last ship: this time, however, decided to not destroy directly.

He wanted to see.

He wanted to see them afraid.

The Kraken brought the ship closer to his many eyes, nevertheless, there was only one man visible to him.

' It doesn't matter, let me see you afraid, let me enjoy your terrorized expression! '

The man was smoking a cigarette while being under the heavy rain. In front of him a colossal beast yet his face was not worried. He was standing there without a care of the world.

The only audible sounds were that of the storm and the heavy breathing of the Kraken.

When the cigarette burnt out, he threw it in the water, and slowly he broke that everlasting silence:

" Fuck you."

BOOOOOOOOMM
