(Words: 2022)

_________

"That was a journey." He muttered, finally arriving.

[A Quest!]

[Eradicate the Goblin nest]

[The Goblins have taken this cave as a nest for their evil deeds, tormenting villages and citizens. Exterminate them so the farmers and citizens live safely.]

[Rewards: Random Skill]

[Accept] [Decline]

'Accept... A skill.' Theodore thought, a bit excited.

Theodore stood in a forest clearing, eyeing a cave opening, while the wind played with his hair left and right. He stood there with caution, checking a few things.

'Let's have a quick review, of my last encounter and what I have heard in the guild.' Theo thought.

[Review:

-A torch alerts them.

-They have sharp noses.

-They can see in the dark.

-They aren't fools.

-They can form plans.]

'Let's get this done with.' He thought.

Entering the cave, Theodore stepped inside. His vision was clear, not needing a torch to see in the dark. He kept on going inside, never once encountering one.

The dark cave was silent, shadowed by the darkness. Yet noises of snickering and grunts echoed now and then, basking the cave in ominous air.

At last, he found what he wanted.

A group of four stood on guard, consisting of four armed goblins. They didn't take notice of him, but soon they will.

He appeared behind a goblin, with the shadows basking his figure. Yet his red eyes were shining bright, glowing like an ominous omen.

Theodore grasped the neck with his right hand before crushing the goblin's neck while he squirmed silently. Under the powerful grip, the goblin's life ended silently.

*Drip*

Blood dripped from the hand, making it bloodred. Some of the bone bits fell like stone pebbles. Making the other goblins notice his presence, squealing at the fall of their member.

The three armed goblins sprang into him, each holding a wooden club of theirs. He evaded the first goblin with a sidestep. His arm sprang like a snake, catching his attacker's throat before delivering a spinning backkick to the second one.

Crushing the first goblin's neck, Theodore used it as a meat shield. The third goblin halted in his tracks, not wanting to hurt his friend. Using that circumstance, Theodore caught his neck before mashing it.

The second goblin was lying on the floor when he saw a foot coming at him before his vision turned dim, taking his life far away. Theodore stomped the goblin's head, bursting into bits and pieces.

Ending them got him back on track, making the whole cave notice his presence.

'That's four.' He thought.

...

(Adventurer's Guild)

In the noisy guild hall, with many adventures, doing their own thing. A man opened the guild door, making the attention go towards him.

A man equipped in grubby leather armor with chainmail underneath paired with his signature-looking helmet that envelops his head entirely in protective metal and a red fabric behind the helmet.

Goblin Slayer!

"Goblin Slayer!"

"What, Goblin Slayer!"

"I thought he was huge."

The goblin slayer continued his stride towards the front disk, not caring about the rumors but not even hearing them. His mind was thinking of goblins and only goblins, eliminating goblins.

"Any goblin slaying... quests." He asked straight forward to the guild girl Erina.

"Hello Goblin Slayer-san there is some..." She answered with a genuine smile, earning a nod from the latter.

"Did any newbies take a quest?" He asked.

"Yes, there is." She gave her response.

"What's there build?" He asked if there was much time he could save them and terminate the goblins before they learn and evolve.

"Umm... It's a solo one... He took the quest an hour ago." She answered sadly.

"Provide me the details... I will go!" The goblin slayer said firmly.

...

(The Cave)

Theodore was surrounded by a horde of goblins, about 15 of them each armed. Looking at his enemies, they were smiling evilly and smirking devilishly. He took out his sword from the scabbard, crisping the air with its speed.

*Shing*

The goblin horde suddenly was confused.

How does a human see in the dark? Did humans develop? Are they evolving like them? Even their unique trait of seeing in the dark is getting used now.

They felt anger, but their hearts sank deep. If humans can grow, it will be their end. The destruction of the goblin race, their end is near.

The tall figure with sharp red eyes took the chance and slashed two goblin heads. The horde went into action, all of them attacking at once.

"1st Stance-Severing Blood Swordsmanship," Theodore whispered, getting into a stance. Holding the sword, he rotates it to create incredible speeds, unleashing it with a fast 180-degree slash.

*Slice*

*Swish*

Four heads sprang into the air, artisting the surroundings with four bloody fountains.

*Exhale*

'Ten.' He Exhaled as smoke came from his lungs.

He ducked the attacks coming his way with great speed. Theodore implanted his feet into the stone floor before vanishing. Theodore made a footprint behind on his path, appearing next to the other goblins.

"2nd Stance-Blood Flash Swordsmanship," Theodore whispered.

Before, he slashed forward with an overwhelming speed that could not be seen by the naked eye, creating a silver image. Dismantling, the necks of four goblins in a flash. Their heads flew like a spring of blood, trailing an image of red.

'14.' He thought.

Before getting caught by an attack, Theodore lifted two bodies. Using them as shields for the arrows shot at him. Watching the last five goblins, he took out some daggers before throwing them.

Implanting their heads with his daggers and ending them, they fell slowly.

*Thud*

'19.' He counted.

[Bonus Quest]

[End all of the goblins within an hour.]

[Rewards: Fireball Skill]

[Accept] [Decline]

Theodore pressed the accept option.

But before going deeper into the cave, he retrieved his daggers and bisected the goblins just in case.

...

15 minutes later.

"Hoof... Are they sure this is a normal nest? I've killed 46 now, and still, I haven't arrived at their main headquarters." Theodore said, a bit out of breath.

He marched his way into the final phase of the cave, reaching a gigantic wooden gate. Theodore stood outside the gate, wanting to enter it. But something about it didn't feel right to him, despite his efforts to inspect it.

"It's a trap..." He muttered, trusting his senses.

'Well, time to use you..." He took out a torch before lighting it up, setting the torch with flames. That bestowed light in the darkness of the cave.

'They don't expect humans to burn the gates... As they will be left with no source of light... But also humans reaching this phase will fall for such trap.' He thought, lighting the door on fire.

The door started to burn rapidly, setting in huge blazing flames. It was like a sun setting in a void, illuminating the cave space.

It slowly started to crumble away, but that amount of fire burned a lot of oxygen. Theodore pulled a gallon out of his inventory, and it was a barrel of alcohol. He started to pour out while backing away as it inflamed, leaving a trail of waving fire.

It made the goblins suffocate, some of them running away. But they met their ends on the path of flame getting crisped to ashes. Theodore backed away furthermore, setting more barrels on fire.

Utilizing: the inventory stacking ability. The same items can be stacked, with a limit of 30.

He backed away into a secure area where he could seize a breather. Theodore was proceeding to enter back in after a couple of breaths.

Dead bodies lay around, burned and crisped beyond recognition. Theodore passed around in the darkness, meeting the enemies in the opposite direction.

There is a dark wall of energy shielding them; it was the doing of the goblin in front, covered by a dark hood and holding a wooden staff. The wall started to dismantle away, revealing what lay behind.

'A Shaman, a Hobgoblin, and five goblins...' He thought, eying the Hobgoblin, who stood the same height as him.

'The Shaman needs to go first... But the Hobgoblin will protect him by any means, as his position tells you he guards. Those five will be a trouble, six with the Hobgoblin.

They will attack while the Shaman charges spells at me. The best option here is to lure them out. But how?' Theodore thought, throwing his weapon and running away.

''{Kill human coward}" The Shaman roared with madness.

*Roar*

The Hobgoblin took the lead, running off after Theodore. Following him were the additional goblins, with the Shaman behind.

He dropped a barrel, making it roll down then took a sword out. The Hobgoblin was caught off guard by a barrel appearing out of nowhere, he caught the barrel defensively by surprise.

'3rd Stance-Fragmentation Swordsmanship,' Theodore whispered, appearing in front of the hobgoblin before passing by him.

Exhaling a breath of smoke that covered his red glowing eyes.

*Exhale*

The Hobgoblin along with the barrel, were cut into multiple pieces of X marks. The Hobgoblin's guts were falling out of his body covered by blood and alcohol, his organs dying the floor red.

'4th Stance-Red Light.' Theodore zoomed across the five goblins behind, they walked for two steps. Before their heads rolled out of their body, with a gush of blood.

Meeting him head-on was the Shaman, who was shocked. Attempting to mutter his spell inactions, the Shaman witnessed a dagger ingrained in his neck.

He started to fall to his side, as the vision of the world darkened in his eyes. Theodore stabbed him with the sword, making sure of his death.

He dropped to his knees which was risky and he knew. But the suffering from exhaustion and little injuries took a toll on his body. Theodore took a couple of breathers, his family's swordsmanship was tiring.

"Hahaha..." Theodore laughed, not knowing if it was caused by his blood pumping and adrenaline rush. The joy of getting rewards, or the toll on his brain.

"That's an adventure,' He muttered with a soft smile, lighting a torch.

...

A figure entered the cave with a red fabric behind his helmet, making his way down. To his surprise, he only found blooded corpses, but still, he stabbed them. He counts the ones he stabs, dueling further into the cave.

After a while, he was more surprised. It wasn't a level of a newbie, a level of a veteran adventurer or tactician.

'Alcohol, chains, fire, daggers, barrels. Using enclosed space, the lack of oxygen suffocates them with fire.

That's how I would do it while facing great numbers, but it lacks quite a bit. Who is this guy? Not a newbie in terms of goblin slaying.' Goblin Slayer thought, marching further.

'46 That's a high number for a nest. What were the goblins planning?

But this guy is strong. I need to thank him. He saved us from something disastrous and also saved the farm!' The Goblin slayer thought, his eyes gleaming red.

...

Theodore regained his stamina after that; the red-eyed youth went back to check the main headquarters of the nest.

*Clinkg*

He heard the sound of metal armor, making him alert. Eying the hall entrance, a man downed by armor entered the hall with a torch in his left hand.

Both of them held torches opposite to each other.

"I'm an adventurer... This is my guild tag." Goblin Slayer introduced himself.

"Me too... This is my guild tag." He showed, earning a nod from the Goblin Slayer.

The Goblin Slayer walked, then halted in front of a cabin door. Opening, Goblin Slayer found some young goblins.

"Thanks for taking care of that... I will leave, I'm tired." Theodore said, leaving the cave. While Goblin Slayer kept on doing his thing, tormenting some goblin orphans.
