1 Start of something new

I woke from a dream, a dream where I become great or should I say known. Things were not so clear but as far as my memory can recall, people were saying there congratulations to me while shaking my hands. My family was there, my mom, my dad, and my brother, I can see the happiness in their eyes and I can feel how proud they are. How nice of that dream to become a reality, making your parents proud and achieving what you truly desire. I was just looking at the ceiling for about 30 minutes while recalling the images on my dreams. The sun is up and the chicken on our backyard is making their morning wake-up-people routine. While having this emotional scene with myself self my morning alarm clock interrupted me from daydreaming.

"Ellie! Wake up! It's almost 7 o'clock. There are so many household chores to do!", my mom shouted from downstairs. I checked my phone on my bedside table to find out that the time was just 6:09 in the morning. My mom is always like that, well I guess all Filipino moms are always like that. Always advanced in everything.

"Elliesah Monique!", she shouted again.

" Yes, mom. Just a minute.", I mumbled with my bedroom voice.

"Elliesah Monique Cortez!", she shouted again.

And that was my cue to get out of bed. I rushed downstairs with my pajamas and a loose shirt with my so messy hair.

"Good morning Mom", I told her then I kissed her cheeks.

Yesterday was my last day at High School and next school year I will be an official college student at my dream University. The University of Sto. Tomas and luckily I qualified as a Veterinary student. Since I was a kid, that is my dream profession, to become a Veterinarian and help animals in need of medical assistance.

My full name is Elliesah Monique Guerero Cortez. Our family came from Mindanao, specifically Tagum City which is known as the City of Palms, City of Festivals and City of Cleanliness. We moved here in Manila because I got a scholarship at the University of Sto. Tomas and my dad got a new job here as a Manager of a bank. We are not rich and poor, I consider our family as middle class and that is the reason why I am so thankful for the scholarship that was given to me. I will never waste the opportunity that God gave me. I have 2 siblings and I am the eldest in the family, that is the reason why I have to study hard and get a good-paying job to support my family in the future and to repay my parents sacrifices for us.

Tomorrow will be the first day of my college life. New friends. New environment. New school. I am excited and nervous at the same time. I am imagining things that I can read on books about college life but I neglect those imaginations quickly because I don't want to disappoint my self.

"Ellie? Is there something that is bothering you?", my mom asked me. She noticed while I was washing the dishes that I am staring into space.

"It's nothing mom", I replied while smiling at her.

"If you have a problem you know that I am always ready to listen", she said and smiled back at me.

"I will go to the market to buy some groceries. You watched over your two siblings while I am gone", she added.

I am always thankful for my mom. She is like my best friend, I can tell her everything and she always knows the right thing to do. As we all know 'mother knows best'.

After I finished washing the dishes, I go straight to our "sala" in Tagalog or English the living room where my younger brother and sister are there watching there favorite TV show "Sineskwela".

The next day, I woke as early as 4:00 am to get ready for school. I feel nervous and I did not get enough sleep. The school is just 15 minutes away from our house that is why I decided to walk. I took a bath, wear some appropriate clothes, put my things inside the bag and did some light make-up. After preparing myself, I go downstairs and ate my breakfast. my mom cooked "adobong manok", it is a Philippine dish of marinated meat either chicken, pork or seafood seasoned with garlic, soy sauce, vinegar, and spices. It is the best Filipino delicacy of all time.

I ate breakfast with my family we have a little chitchats. As I check the time its 7:30 already.

"Ma? Pa? I will go to school now.", I said while I gather my things for school.

"Ellie I will just drop you off your school. Wait for me I will just get my things", my father replied.

"Pa I'm fine. My school is just 15 minutes away. Don't worry. I will update you as soon as I arrived.", I told him while I kiss his cheeks to bid goodbye. I also bid my goodbye to my mom and my siblings.

The sun is up. The streets are busy, there are so many cars. It's so different from my "probinsya" life. Suddenly, I remember where I am going and it makes me feel nervous and excited at the same time.

As I walk down the sidewalk I saw a man about 7 meters away from me. He was finding something on his bag and he is in a hurry. As I walk towards him, he suddenly run away and a notebook fell into the ground.

"Hey wait! Your notebook!", I shouted while I run to return his book back to him. But he didn't looked back as if he didn't here anything. I stop running and I was catching my breath. I never run or jog in a while that is why I am so tired. My sweat is dripping off my forehead.

I fixed myself and wondered who was it and what is the content of this notebook?
