Chapter1: Game Descends

"Your World has been selected. Initialising synchronisation with hegemony."

[From this point on your world is no longer yours. Your world has been taken over by the game Hegemony and it will transform this world into a place where only the fittest survive. And please do keep trying to survive so God may enjoy your vain attempts to preserve your pathetic lives.

In the first phase of the game please select your own attributes which will decide which class you receive. Of course some may have unique attributes which will allow them to receive a better class with more possibilities for the future. But be warned that the attributes chosen will alter said person on a fundamental level and there is no going back.

Now then, this is goodbye for now. I will be able to see those that have adapted to the new world again but for those that aren't able to do so, only death awaits.]

After regurgitating what the ethereal being had said a million times already, it opened a portal and swiftly disappeared.

"Hey what the f*** is going on?"

"No, this can't be real"

"Holy s***! "

"I don't believe this, it's got to be a prank!"

Mass hysteria and panic washed over the world as that ethereal figure was seen and heard by everyone, without fail, as he announced the end of their peaceful lives, and for some, what would soon become, the end of their lives.

Every single social media site was being flooded with images and news of what had happened. But the panic soon turned in to dread as the question of what would happen next began to arise. News broadcasters covered the news and gave their opinions on what would happen to the world but it was nothing like what they could've imagined.

They didn't have to wait long to find out either.

Unbeknownst to everyone, mana had started to spread around the world and it only took 24 hours or so to show its affects. The incident came to the public eye when a US senator fell unconscious during a press conference and the cause was reported as unknown.

This was only the beginning as cases of people suddenly becoming unconscious and falling into a coma were reported world wide and the rate of this happening only increased with every day that passed.

Falling into a coma was the better option of the two when the other option was death and after a week had passed after the incident, there were over a billion diseased and almost 700 million people in comas, now lying in hospital, for what most assumed would be, for the rest of their lives.

This misery that had overcome the world, as many had lost family and loved ones, was only the prelude to hell.

And Hell it truly was…

When the world had acclimated to the mana that had now infested it, the earth itself started to crack open as lava spewed out in jets covering the the sky in a blanket of dark ash and other toxic gases . The ground itself fell apart and an earthquake spanning the whole world took place. But soon most people realised that it wasn't a normal earthquake at all. The sound was as if something was emerging from the depths, something that they couldn't comprehend.

Soon the wait was over and all around the globe massive structures emerged from the ground. They were of too many different varieties to be addressed by one name but among them there were castles, mountains, volcanoes and even floating islands but the thing that stood out the most was the massive tower in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

It was like nothing ever seen before. It's stood majestically at where most would now know as the centre of the world and its brilliance couldn't be escaped from. The weirdest thing about all this was that this massive object, which covered most of the horizon, didn't produce a shadow at all. Most were of course grateful for this as it was large enough to cover 10% of the world surface with just its shadow.

After this process of transformation was over, the earth calmed down and even the cracks began to close up.

But the damage done was already irreversible

Everyone was naturally on guard but after that incident nothing happened. Everyone expected some monstrosity to walk out of those door but surprisingly nothing did. It was as if god had given humanity a grace period, as an intermission before the real fun began.

Six months later, life continued to to happen as normal…

Okay, not so normal considering many had lost their family or loved ones and their lives had no guarantee to last past the end of the day.

The tower continued to loom over them as a reminder of their impending doom but with that said, most cities had been rebuilt by now and many people's daily lives continued as normal. Most still needed money to live and so most large companies and cooperations were still up and running.

This can't be said for the global economy, which had taken a nose dive since the incident and even when everything was rebuilt, it had not recovered at all.

This was partly due to the fact that during this period of time there were no new innovations and most companies came to a standstill almost as if the whole world was waiting for something to happen.

This something finally happened another 6 months later.

Everything started with the appearance of dimensional portals which were doorways into other dimensions. The first one appeared in China and without knowing what was the best thing to do, some citizens tried to enter it but they were stopped by the authorities who arrived as soon as they found out.

The portal was being broadcasted to the whole world which would allow them to cooperate if anything were to happen.

But one week passed without anything at all happening. For that one week almost everyone around the world was staring at the livestream of the portal, waiting for something to come out of it.

Just when the people started to relax a huge burst of energy came out of the depths of the portal and cracks began to form on it.

The cracks expanded like a spider's web on its surface until it completely shattered letting a dark and ominous aura ooze out of the portal.

Those nearby including the authorities reacted too late and when a large red hand emerged out of the portal and clenched itself around the head of one of the police officers and dragged him inside. The officers on standby promptly took their weapons out and started to shoot the hand but it was to no avail as the bullets simply bounced off it's skin..

Everyone watched on powerlessly as the officer was dragged inside. As everyone waited with bated breath, something was thrown out of the portal. It was so fast that most people didn't have a chance to see what it was but almost everyone knew.

The live broadcast turned to face the object that had splatters on the walls of a nearby building even denting it in the process.

Though unrecognisable as he was, everyone knew his identity or at least what was left of him and whom it belonged to. Blood had spilt everywhere and his guts lay on the street for everyone to see. It seems that his skull had even cracked on impact and what was left could only be described as a pile of meat and bone.

This acted as the commencement of war: whatever was inside this dimensional portal was clearly not friendly towards humans. So it began, a fight that the current humans were not at all suited to win and it won't surprise anyone that what happened that day would go down in history as one of the greatest and most brutal massacres.

Everyone watched this scene on their phones and even with the military arriving, nothing changed. The beings that came out of those gates could only be described as monsters and they bore a striking similarity to what most knew as ogres through comics and films.

They were described as the personification of strength by the onlookers but they would soon realise just how wrong and short sighted they were.

But it was true that these beings were the strongest thing that they had encountered as of yet and so were rendered totally hopeless in this battle as even their firearms had been rendered useless.

China had lost many men that day and they would continue to do so until they were able to kill these ogres. Out of options, the leaders of China were ready to launch nuclear bombs. But it would be extremely difficult to do so as everything was still being broadcasted to the entire world and since the portal is in a largely populated residential area, the damage done would be immense.

Almost all of their military personnel that were available had been deployed on to the site of the incident and they were still slowly loosing.

They had been been driven to the brink of despair, after all this could be the end of China as they were at their wits end on what to do.

They naturally called for assistance from other countries but without having countermeasures against these monsters, everyone was reluctant to lend a hand.

But thankfully today wouldn't be the end for one of the strongest countries in the world and in fact it would be the start of a new age for humanity as a whole.
