Given another chance?

When we die our bodies and souls are recycled to create new life, and that goes for both the mortal races and the deities of the divine circle. When a mortal dies their bodies return to nature and their souls are collected to be reborn as little babies. But when a deity dies they just...fade away. Leaving nothing behind except memories made with their peers. "How can a deity die?" You might ask yourself. Well, it's simple, Deities gather their power from their followers, but when there are none, they cease to exist. I only have a few hundred years left and I want to leave a mark on the mortal world...I've heard stories from my peers about choosing a champion to fight in their name and ignite great change in the world...hmmm maybe....just maybe.

How easy it is to learn

Ever since I've descended, I've been recollecting vague memories and skills. My guess of living in a forest before seemed to be spot on because I'm slowly gaining knowledge on how to live in the wilderness. Still, I can't remember anything about who I was or any names and faces. Either way, I should be thankful for this knowledge as the sun has gone down a little while ago and I was successful in making a fire.

Currently, I'm sitting in a small clearing with a decent-sized fire blazing away, with a few extra sticks at the side to be used as fuel. I'm not tired nor hungry, it seemed to be a side effect of being an otherworlder. I should try and get more information on my race. Speaking of, I stumbled upon a small pond earlier and finally got a good look at myself. I look human enough, or at least what I assume a human would look like. The face that looked back at me was younger than I thought, with messy black hair and eyes that looked like an autumn afternoon. I would've got lost in my own eyes if a frog didn't snap me out of my daze. Now I sit next to a fire with my green cloak covering a majority of my body with the hood concealing my head. If there was no light and I stayed completely still, I would blend with the environment.

Staring into the fire, I let my thoughts wander, just waiting for daylight. I would keep walking, but I've got a gut feeling that wandering around in an unknown forest at night could only go wrong, so I sit and think about my next move, which doesn't take long. Wander until I find something. If I encounter people, I'll ask directions toward the nearest town or city, and if I find said town or city...well, we'll get there when we get there.

I sigh, "well, so far, life isn't that bad, haha."

I observe as the stars slowly disappear, an orange sky taking their place. I stand from my spot, stretching my muscles. "Ahh, sitting in one place for so long sure takes a toll," I mutter. Silently, I extinguish the remnants of the fire leaving little trace. Hopefully, today isn't as fruitless as yesterday, My hope is to at least find some road or trail. So I walked and walked. At least the beauty of the forest doesn't get old. Every once in a while, I see a squirrel or a stray fox. I see many birds in the limbs of the trees, some exotic, and some mundane. I continue my walk silently.

I say goodbye to my friends and head off on my scouting mission. Today we received a report of an enormous magical spike that happened yesterday. Most, if not all of us felt it, as It was almost suffocating, but just as quickly as it came, it left, leaving a relieved expression on all of us. As elves, we have an innate sensitivity to magic, and we're worried about whatever it was that caused it, so, of course, they're sending me to scout the area. I know as the highest-ranking scout in the convoy it's my duty to get as much information on any abnormalities, but they could've at least let me prepare, right?

It doesn't matter. This is my duty.

At least that's what I tell myself.

I climb a tree and jump from branch to branch heading in the direction of the magical anomaly, while mentally checking off all I brought with me. Weapons? A shortsword, two daggers, and a small crossbow with two dozen bolts. Food? Enough rations to last a week if necessary. If I need any more, I'll either scavenge or return for more. First aid? bandages and a handful of potions along with other miscellaneous items in my bag. I know this forest like the back of my hand, so I don't need any maps. I should have enough to last me a few days, so I won't return till I find something or am absolutely sure the anomaly is gone. There has been much speculation on what could have caused the magic spike. Some believe an ancient beast awoke in the forest, while others believe a powerful mage released god or demi-god level magic. Neither sounds comforting. Even though I'm one of the younger in the convoy, I'm being sent to recover intel on a potentially colossal class entity, just my luck.

I was nearly an hour deep in the forest when I saw something unusual. A human was wandering the forest just a few feet before me. It's unusual I didn't sense him earlier, but that could've been because I was deep in thought. He was wearing a green cloak with the hood up, so I couldn't see much of his features. I was About to jump down and address him before I thought twice. What if he was the one that caused the magical spike? He is coming from that direction. After a few moments of careful consideration, I decide to tail him and deem if he is a threat. If he is, I'll deal with him, if not then I'll just talk,

Something has been following me for a few minutes now. I'm not sure how I know, but I can just feel a pair of eyes staring at me. I'm unsure of what to do, and I can't tell if it's an animal or a person, so I'm not sure if I should address it or keep walking. I don't have any weapons, so if it's hostile I don't really have anything to fight back with, but if I keep walking and don't find anything

it can just outright attack.

I take a risk.

I stop in my tracks and turn around, "I know you're out there. I'd appreciate it if you came out."

to my surprise, I saw a dark green shape land on the ground a few feet from me before standing and revealing a young woman with pointy ears and light green eyes adorned with a light brown ponytail and numerous dangerous-looking objects.

"I'm surprised you knew I was there."
