CHAPTER 18

Nolan stood up and walked to Alina.

"Alina, can you repeat what you just said now?" Nolan asked excitedly and Alina stopped laughing.

"What are you saying professor?"

"You made a statement seconds ago. I will love it if you repeat the statement" Nolan said swiftly.

"What statement? The one I said you look cute?" Alina asked and Nolan turned around with a wide innocent smile on his lips.

"Professor, you also said you're an expert in relationships advice right?" Alina asked and Nolan sat down back.

"Of course I am" Nolan bragged.

"But how come you don't have a girlfriend yourself" Alina teased and Nolan frowned.

"That's because I chose to live a peaceful life, having a girlfriend is more like a hassle so I don't find it necessary" Nolan pouted looking away.

"Oh I see, you see it as a hassle. Hmm, well that's a statement for guys who can't man up to ask a girl out"

"What are you saying? Do you have any idea how many girls have asked me out? I don't have to ask Amy girl out to have a girlfriend okay. Why are you suddenly looking down on me and you said you've never been in a relationship so how did you know that?" Nolan asked.

Alina removed her mask.

"Who would want to be with a girl like myself and I never thought of myself being in any relationship" Alina said slowly and Nolan glanced at her.

"What's wrong with you? This is the reason why you always got on my nerves. You should give yourself some credit. You always make yourself look pitiful, does it feel good to think that way. Who wouldn't want to have a girlfriend like you? Why do you keep thinking something's wrong with you when you're perfect just the way you are" Nolan uttered swiftly and then took the glass of water on the table and gulped it down.

"If you're trying to comfort me then do it the right way. Why are you yelling at me? When you've got no idea what I went through to get here" Alina muttered out as her eyes became teary.

"I don't know so how about you tell me about it and stop making feel so pathetic" Nolan said and Alina stood up.

"I don't think I will be able to have dinner with you tonight. I should take my leave because I hate it when I make people feel pathetic, it suffocates me" Alina said without looking at Nolan.

She took few steps forward.

"Is it because of your mum? Are you acting this way because of her? How can you let her affect your life so much?" Nolan asked.

"You know nothing about my mum or my life and it's better you leave it that way. You might get hurt if you say that again" Alina said holding back her tears.

Nolan stood up.

"You're trying to avoid this once again like a coward. Don't you think it's high time you face your fears and stop giving people the reason to interfere in your life and decisions"

"And that's exactly what I'm doing. Don't get too nosy professor. I've heard even worse and you won't be the first" Alina said about to walk out but Nolan held her hand.

"I want the best for you and that's why I'm going to say this to you. If you keep on lingering about the past, you might end up losing your true self" Nolan said slowly and Alina shoved his hands off.

"Easy for you to say because you've never been through such a thing yourself. Whose child is going to live a normal life if the mother abandoned him for their looks" Alina said coldly and the tears crowded in her eyes rolled down.

"Alina!" Nolan called out going after her but Alina ran out of the restaurant and hide at a corner.

She bent down and cried her eyes out.

It's just a mere past but it hurts so much like it happened yesterday. Alina said in her head holding her chest as she felt suffocated.

She had flashes of the past of the day her mother left.

"I don't need a daughter like her. Alina is like a curse to me. I don't wish to live with a curse for the rest of my life" Alina's mother screamed and Sam slapped her hard across the cheeks.***

Alina's chest became congested as she ran out of breath and she lay down on the floor.

"Alina! Alina!" Nolan called out looking for her and he saw her fall to the ground.

He rushed to her and held her up.

"Alina are you okay?" Nolan asked curiously and she slowly shot her eyes.

"Alina, listen to me, don't close your eyes. You will be fine, so please don't close your eyes" Nolan said anxiously and carried her on his arms in a bridal style.

He ran to his car and drove off immediately.

I can't take her to the hospital. It might be suffocating for her and I can't take her home either. That will make her father even more worried. Nolan thought.

Minutes later...

He carried her out of the car then into his apartment.

Nolan lay Alina down on his bed, he quickly checked her pulse.

He placed her palm on his.

"I'm sorry Alina, It was wrong of me to speak to you like that. I sounded like a total jerk. Please just open your eyes, I know you're upset with me but please don't go to sleep with an empty stomach" Nolan whispered as he rubbed her palm to make it warm.

"Water...water .." Alina mumbled and he brought his ears closer to her mouth so he would hear her properly.

"Water" Alina said clearly this time as she opened her eyes.

Nolan looked at her and they locked eyes.

"You're even more beautiful from up close. How can you be this beautiful and still hide yourself" Nolan uttered without even realising it.

Alina looked straight into his eyes as her heartbeat raced.

"What's that sound?" Nolan questioned looking around and Alina moved away from him.

"I'm glad you opened your eyes" Nolan said after clearing his throat.

"I will go get you the water" He added and left the room.

He got to the fridge and placed his face inside.

"Why do I feel so hot and you need to stay calm? This isn't the first time you're staying in same space with a lady" Nolan said pointing at his heart.

Alina sat up with her hand on her chest as she began to feel quite relieved from the chest congestion.

He said I'm beautiful. Alina said in her head as she blushed hard and suddenly she noticed her surrounding.

Is this his house? This must be his bedroom. What! I'm in professor Nolan's house? Alina gasped in her head in shock as she looked around from where she was seated.

He has a nice room. What a comfortable bed? But why did he bring me here? How did I end up here? Why didn't he take me home or to the hospital? She questioned in her head as lots of thoughts crossed her mind.

Nolan came back to the bedroom.

"Here's the water you asked for" Nolan uttered giving her the glass of water.

"Thank you" Alina said and gulped it down. She placed the cup on the table next to the bed.

There was a sudden awkward silence between them.

Nolan fidgeted as he ran short of words.

This is so awkward. Nolan said in his head.

"Alina,"

"Professor," They both called out at once.

"You go first" Nolan said sat down on his reading table.

"Professor, why did you bring me to your house? You would have taken me to the hospital or my house but you brought me here instead" Alina uttered slowly.

"Well, I didn't take you to the hospital because I thought you wouldn't like the idea of people finding out about it and same goes for your house as well. I didn't want to make your father worried" Nolan explained and Alina nodded.

"You did the right thing professor and I heard you talk about going to bed without eating. Do you have anything edible in your apartment?" Alina asked then got out of the bed.

"You wanted to say something as well professor" Alina reminded.

"It's nothing important. We can talk about that when we're done having dinner" Nolan said and they head to the kitchen.

Alina looked around and a beautiful smile appeared on her face.

"This is the exact way, I would want my apartment to look like" She smiled.

"How about you come live here?" Nolan threw in and she looked at him.

"Then where will you stay?" Alina asked curiously.

"Here with you. It will be boring staying alone" Nolan said and a beep came in his phone.

He brought it out if his pocket and it's a message from Matt.

~ "Nolan I asked my manager for you. You couldn't finish so statement when we were talking so I figured out, you're trying to book a flight to America. I think the best day for you to leave is in a few days times since the weather reading will be perfect that day. It's been a while you visited your mother, she's the reason you want to go to America right? Is she Alright?" ~

Nolan scratch one of his eyebrows nervously after reading the message.

"Professor, is everything okay?" Alina noticed.

"Of course, everything's fine. Like I said, how about you come live with me for a few days? Let's become housemates for a few days. What do you think? I don't have any ill intentions for asking you this so don't insinuate things in your head okay. I'm asking, since you've never lived away from home before" Nolan said and Alina looked at him in shock.

"Come on, don't give me that look. It's obvious you've never lived elsewhere apart from home with your dad"

"Is it that obvious? But I don't act like one and not staying home for a few days, dad might not like the idea" Alina said.

"I believe your dad will want you to explore as well so do you want to? After all there's nothing wrong with being housemates, it's just for a few days. It's fun, we can do chores together, cook and eat together just like friends do" Nolan explained with a smile.

Alina looked at him suspiciously.

"Professor, you must have been living a very boring and lonely life and that's why you need a girlfriend"

"We're friends right?" Nolan asked.

Alina looked at him completely surprised.

"I thought you said I'm not your friend?" She asked.

"I've grown fond of you and that's why I don't mind being friends with you. Friends?" Nolan asked stretching his hands out for an handshake.

"Of course, professor" Alina smiled as she received the handshake.

"Nolan, my name's Nolan" Nolan said softly.

"Isn't that a bit too much. Won't you get offended if I call you by your name? What if people hear me addressing you by your name"

"You don't have to in public but when we're alone, you can call me by my name. What should we have for dinner?" Nolan asked looking around the kitchen.

"Omelet" Alina called the turned to the shelf only to find cups of noodles loaded in the shelves.

"Prof.. no Nolan, don't you eat at home? Just instant noodles?" Alina asked a bit flabbergasted.

"I don't stay at home much and that's why.."

Alina signed tiredly as she sat down at the kitchen chair.

"What's the sigh for?"

"I thought I would be having a delicious dinner tonight. Nolan, should I make it or you will?" She asked tiredly.

"Don't worry, I will" Nolan said and quickly turned on the gas cooker.

Minutes later....

They were both seated Infront of each other, eating from the pot.

"I've got lots of plates, I can't believe you wanted us to eat from the pot" Nolan whined.

"It's fun and it's an initiation for our day one of being friends" Alina smiled.

They both continued eating.

It was the last bite of noodles left in the pot and Alina ran with the pot.

"Alina, that's cheating" Nolan laughed as they both ran around in the sitting room.

Alina quickly placed the last bite on her lips.

"Come have it if you can" Alina managed to utter because of the food in her lips.

Nolan grabbed her by the waist bringing her closer to him with his eyes fixed on her lips and he slowly chewed on the noodles on her lips gradually.

He placed his lips on hers and kissed her lightly as he felt the smooth and tenderness of her lips. Alina's eyes widened in shock.
