A/N: You know when you leave the meat and vegetables in the broth, letting it thicken over time? That's what's going to happen from this point on, but with the plot! The plot thickens! Haha!

Enjoy!

Getting up, Jun walked across the lake until he reached the cabin. Stretching his body, he decided to continue his training and headed to a secluded clearing.

As he was doing push-ups, Jun noticed a slight disturbance in the air.

Suddenly, a Kunai came flying from the nearby bushes. Activating his Sharingan, Jun dodged and flickered away, leaving no trace.

'Where did he go!?' Mezu sat still, his breath hitting against the mask he was wearing. Concentrating, he tried to locate Jun's whereabouts but was unable to.

Suddenly, Jun appeared from underneath him, phasing out of the ground as if he was intangible. Unable to react in time, Mezu stared directly into his Sharingan and fell into a deep genjutsu.

Placing his hand on the man's head, Jun was about to read his memories when he felt his scalp tingle. Flickering away, he watched as Gozu landed in front of Mezu, smashing his rock-covered fist into the ground.

"He's quick...!" Gozu got back up, checking his brother's condition. Noticing the Sharingan pattern in his eye, he placed a hand on his shoulder and formed a seal with the other.

"Kai!" As Gozu's words trailed off, Mezu woke back up. Raising to his feet, he thanked his brother before raising his guard once again.

"Careful, he can avoid our detection." Gozu readied his arms, waiting for an opportunity to strike.

Jun was merged with a nearby tree, observing his attackers. From their masks and cloaks, he could tell that they were Anbu... But not regular ones.

'Could it be ...?' Connecting the dots, he sent them a sharp look. He vaguely remembered a sub-division of the Anbu, called 'root'. He'd heard about them from Zetsu. He was sure of it, judging by the designs on their masks.

But why did Danzo want him? Could he have found out about his involvement with the clan's decision?

"It doesn't matter... For now, I have to take these two down." Akane, Nozomi, and Aito were nearby; he had to act swiftly.

Gozu and Mezu stood back to back, carefully examining their surroundings. They didn't know how a genin could evade their perception, making them take this even more seriously.

Suddenly, they heard a sound and noticed some shuriken flying their way. Jumping away from each other, they easily evaded them.

Just as Gozu was about to land, the sound of countless chirping birds came from behind him. Turning his head around, he only saw a purple streak as Jun's Yari pierced his heart.

"How...?" Gozu fell to his knees, holding his chest as he failed to grab any flesh. With a gaping hole where his heart was supposed to be, he landed face-first on the ground.

It had been too quick. Jun held the beating heart in his right hand, crushing it mercilessly.

Sending a glare Mezu's way, Jun let his killing intent permeate the small clearing. Feeling it, Mezu's legs started shaking as he lost his ability to move.

With a vicious smile, Jun merged with the ground, disappearing once again.

What was worse than an enemy? One you couldn't see. Mezu trembled as his kunai fell on the ground.

Even he, an experienced root member, was unable to take Jun's killing intent. It felt like his life was in his grasp, and he could take it at any moment.

Choosing not to kill this one, Jun appeared in front of him and stared into his eyes with the Sharingan. Once again, he fell under his genjutsu.

"Let's continue where we left off..." Placing a hand on the man's head, Jun stared into his eyes and tried to reach for his memories. As soon as he was about to see them, an invisible wall blocked his way.

"A seal... Crafty old bastard." Jun released the man's head and watched him fall unconscious. 'I have to take them to Masaki... He'll be able to make them speak.'

Jun had felt it before. The old man was much stronger than he seemed.
