Chapter 21 - First day of school

I changed Present Mic 2.0 appearance because it was too challenging to imagine him while writing about him.

He is now a 200-centimeter-tall man with a muscular well-rounded build, fair skin, green eyes, and red hair. He wears a blue trench coat that reaches his knee with black buttons. It has slits on both sides from the waist down, making it ideal for running, jumping, and climbing. Underneath his coat, he wears form-fitting dark pants and knee-high combat boots.

I modeled his appearance from the red lantern, John Moore, so you can search him up to see what 2.0 looks like. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Chapter Start

Shiketsu High School's main building is where the school classrooms, principal office, teacher lounge, cafeteria, administration office, and other facilities are located. It stands in the middle of Shiketsu island, taking the form of a glass-fronted cube punctuated with an asymmetric hole. The building stands about 93 meters high with twenty one floors.

Walking through the hall was a young girl with a honey-tan complexion, standing approximately 165 cm tall and with a slim, well-toned build. She had a diamond face shape, sharp, green eyes, and wavy dark brown hair that reached her waist. She wore the regular Shiketsu High uniform for female students, consisting of a blue and orange double-breasted jacket, a white collared shirt below it, an orange bowtie, and a matching uniform hat on her head and skirt. She also wears black tights with black slip-on shoes and a shoulder school bag on her right shoulder.

"*Ugh* Why is this building unnecessarily so large?" Theresa groaned, having been walking through the building for more than ten minutes, heading to her classroom. "What's the point of a building like this? To show off their wealth?"

She looked down at her phone, the map she had been following for ten minutes, beeping that she had reached her destination. Turning to her left, she noticed a door more than 8 meters high with a blue 1-C.

"Unnecessarily spacious." She said, the door proving her point.

Bringing out her school ID from her blazer pocket, she held it to a key card door lock, which clicked and unlocked. Returning her ID to her bag, she grabbed the handle and opened the door.

Behind the door was a massive, windowless classroom with a ceiling over 10 meters high. In the front of the class was a stage with a set of steps leading up to it. The teacher's podium was in the middle of the stage, with a massive smartboard hanging on the wall behind it and two blackboards on either side. Twenty sets of tables and chairs were arranged symmetrically in the middle of the class, with half already filled with some students of class 1-C.

The class was silent, with none of the students speaking to each other as they were all strangers. Once she opened the door, all their eyes were on her.

Paying them no mind, she walked into the classroom, the door silently closing and locking behind her. She walked through the class to the last row, to the desk beside the window if there was one. Sitting on the chair, she placed her bag on the ground beside her and silently used her phone.

The classroom remained awkwardly silent until the door opened, drawing everyone's attention, including Theresa. Standing there was the young master, dressed in the Shiketsu High uniform for male students. This uniform was similar to the female uniform, except for the orange bowtie and pants instead of skirts. His peacock tail was missing, with his snow-white hair falling below him.

His ruby red eyes slowly scanned the classroom, judging and grading everyone he saw before stopping at Theresa. "Ah, yes. You resemble a witch this one met during the entrance exam." He said, his voice piercing through the silence. "But this one doubts she would have passed it."

"I am her." Theresa scoffed, already angered by his look.

"Really?" He asked, surprised. "The heavens must be merciful."

"What is that supposed to mean?" She glowered, noticing that it was an insult but not understanding it.

"This one won't waste my breath on you." He said, walking into the classroom, the door closing behind him.

Theresa closed her eyes and took a deep breath, calming herself. She didn't want to start a ruckus and be expelled on the first day of school. That would be a disgrace. 'Take a deep breath. Take a deep fucking breath--'

"You're in my seat." The boy's voice came from behind him. "Get out before this one moves you, witch."

"I came here first." She said, her eyes still closed as she focused on calming down.

"It belongs to me." He countered, glaring down at her. "So, this one will ask you once more. Move."

It was as if he was intentionally trying to get a rise out of her, so she stood up and looked up at him with a smile. "Fine, cockroach. Have it to yourself." She said, picking up her bag and storming past him.

"You have finally learned your place." He said behind her, sitting on her former seat. "A place like all the other students in this classroom. My stepping stone."

"Say that again!" Theresa roared, stopping herself from hurling her bag at him. "I fucking dare you."

"It seems like you have shown your true color." He folded his arm and closed his eyes. "But shut up. This young master doesn't want to deal with you right now."

Scoffing at him, she slumped down on the desk at the other end of the last row, folding her arm. She closed her eyes and started calming herself, telling herself that tomorrow she could act however the fuck she wanted. Even though she gets expelled, it wouldn't matter as one day has passed.

Their interaction brought up a common topic everyone could discuss, causing conversations to start all around the room, with the once quiet room becoming loud. More people came to class, and soon, all students were present.

Theresa finally opened her eyes after about five minutes, glaring. "The fuck are you staring at?" She asked the boy sitting in the seat in front of her. "I've been feeling your eyes digging into me for the past five minutes. What the fuck do you want?"

The boy in front of her had turned his chair to face her with his eyes fixed on her. He was a young man with a bulky body, with bluish-purple skin discoloration like that of a dead person, and stood about 193 cm tall. He has stitches on his neck, as if the head was severed but stitched back up. He has blue lips, short scruffy black hair, and brown dead eyes that creeped Theresa out.

"Your flesh looks delicious." He said in a low, monotonous tone, hugging himself. "I am simply using my eyes to enjoy the taste of your flesh while holding myself back from taking a bite." He said, biting the bottom of his lips, his unblinking eyes never leaving her.

A shiver ran through Theresa's body as she bolted up from her seat, her chair falling backward. "What the fuck?!" She shouted, the entire class becoming silent, all eyes on her. She pointed at the boy, whose eyes followed her without blinking, anger building up in her. "Wh---"

"YEEEEEEAH!!!" A scream interrupted her voice, awakening the sleeping young master and drawing the attention of everyone in the class as Present Mic 2.0 burst into the classroom. He leaped from the door and landed on the stage in front of the teacher's podium. "GOOD MORNING, STUDENTS OF CLASS 1-C!"

No one responded to his loud greeting as all the students returned to their seats, getting ready for class. With everyone now in their seat, no one spoke as they all stared at their teacher.

"Ah, yes. The sound of silence." He said in a normal tone, grinning. "Most of you know me by my nickname, Present Mic 2.0, but I am actually known as OVERTONE!" He roared out his name, a sound wave spreading through the class, causing everyone in the room, except Theresa, to hold their ears.

"I think I will become deaf with you as my teacher." One girl mumbled as she massaged her ears, with the one who heard her nodding.

"I hope he teaches as well as he sounds." A guy groaned, remembering his stupid teachers from middle school.

"Now, I will get straight to the point." He said, calming down. "I will be your homeroom teacher for this year, and I am excited to teach you, young performers." He dramatically opened his arm wide, "I am Overtone, the underrated and watered-down Present Mic, and I hope to be a successful teacher for you."

He became silent, and so did the class, with all eyes fixed on him. "I expected thunderous claps, but THAT IS ALRIGHT!" He shouted, sending out another wave of sound through the class.

"I sense his passive aggressiveness." A guy groaned, feeling the urge to throw up due to the sound wave passing through him.

"Shit. I need a new homeroom teacher." Similar murmurs of disapproval spread through the classroom, with Theresa mumbling in annoyance as she started using her phone.

Overtone clapped his hands, drawing the student's attention back to himself. "It's a tradition for all classes of Shiketsu High homeroom teachers to select class representatives on the first day of a new year based on students' overall grades and conduct." He scanned the class, "But since you all are in the first year, I will select the class representative based on grades."

He noticed Theresa using her phone on her desk, not even trying to hide it, but decided to ignore it and walked behind the teacher's podium. He tapped some buttons while saying, "I will pull up the result for the entrance exam, both written and practical." His words caused Theresa to freeze as she slowly looked up from her phone to the smartboard, which turned on. "The ranking would depend on the written test results, not your practical test if you did take it because we aren't the hero department."

"Shit..." she murmured as she watched the smartboard display the results.

A flurry of 'oohs' is heard as each student scans the board, with Theresa putting her head on the desk. The students spoke about their ranks and the hidden rescue point they did not know about, but thankfully, no one knew her name, so there was no way they would see her in last place.

"So, for this period, I would slowly proceed down the list and speak to you about your score and how you could improve." It was as if Overtone read her mind and said he would personally speak to everyone about their score. That would expose her. She clenched her phone in her hand and quickly started thinking of an explanation that would preserve her image as a top dog in this class. "We will start at rank 1." Overtone continued, turning to the smartboard.

Rank 1 - Saiko Intelli: [Written Test: 100][Villain Points: 0][Rescue Points: 0][Overall: 100]

"Holy shit."

"A 100 in the written exam." A guy mumbled, "That person is a beast."

Mummer ran through the class, but Overtone quickly silenced it with a loud clap. "Now, Miss Intelli," He said, turning to face the class, "How do you think you can improve?" He asked, his attention focused on the girl sitting straight on the first desk in the first row, closer to the front door, reading a book.

She is a rather pale girl standing at around 159 cm, with a lean, healthy body. Her bluish-lilac eyes were thin, somewhat cat-like, with thick upper eyelashes and a couple of longer and more pronounced ones poking out to each far side. Her hair is straight and reaches down to her waist, with two ear-length clumps and a neat fringe framing her face in a hime-cut, with its color somewhere between baby blue, lavender, and pale gray.

She wears the female Shiketsu High uniform, with the addition of a white glove, dark leggings, and a golden monocle over her left eye. This monocle has a chain hanging off one side with a small jewel at the end, the same color as her eyes.

"I don't need improvement since I scored a flawless mark." She arrogantly proclaimed, smiling.

"You are right." Overtone nodded, "You got a flawless mark, but do you think you got every answer correct?"

"I did." She replied, confident in her answer. "Please, go ahead and check if you don't know. The 120 questions were as simple as ABC and I completed them all in only 30 minutes..." She paused, tapping the table with her finger. "I guess that's where I need improvement. Thirty minutes was a little too long for me."

"Who the fuck does she think she is?"

"Oh, god. What punchable lips." Several angry comments were exchanged in the class due to the girl's arrogance, with Theresa wanting to slap the girl across the face.

'How could she be so full of herself?' She thought, staring at frowning Saiko at the front of the class. 'How could she say thirty minutes was too long? The audacity of this bitch.' She clenched her fist, remembering her own score. 'Oh, god. I want to fuck her up.'

"Yes." Overtone nodded, noticing the shocked face of everyone in the class. "You did get all the questions right."

"Holy shit!"

"She is a monster! The last 20 questions were all fucking college-level questions. You WEREN'T supposed to get them right."

"I swear to god, she cheated. She HAD to."

"She couldn't have cheated." Overtone said, silencing their doubt. "The rooms where you took your written tests were specially monitored, so the chance of anyone cheating without being caught is 0%."

"Then she must have used her quirk." A guy said, "I mean, can you monitor quirks that increase your intelligence?"

"I could have." Saiko declared, glancing at the boy. "But, why would I need to?" She returned her eyes to the book she was reading, "Besides, it never stated that we wouldn't use our quirk. Even though I used it, I wouldn't have broken any rule."

"She is right," Overtone nodded, causing a gasp and some curses to ripple through the class. If they knew this, most of them would have scored higher. Though they don't have a quirk that boosts their intelligence, their quirk would definitely have helped with cheating without being caught. "You haven't answered my question, Miss Intelli. How are you planning on improving?"

"That would be moving to class 2-A in my second year." She replied, tapping her jaw. "I couldn't join the hero department due to my non-combat ability, which I acknowledge, so I plan on getting in with my intelligence."

"I mean, you did get every question right, so I see no reason for you not to be in the Hero course." A guy shrugged. Though some of the class already saw her in a bad light, they couldn't help but acknowledge her intelligence. The fact that she got 20 college-level questions right was already proof enough.

"Now," Overtone clapped, drawing the class's attention as the murmur quickly settled. "Let's move on to rank 2."

He slowly moved down the list, discussing their score and what they could do to improve on it. He was surprisingly effective at his job, despite being extremely loud from time to time, giving the students helpful ways to improve their already high scores and giving them study techniques.

"Now, for the final three." He turned to the smartboard, and all other ranks disappeared, only leaving ranks 18, 19, and 20. "Let's discuss your DISGUSTINGLY LOW SCORE!"

Rank 20 - Peng Yu: [Written Test: 0][Villain Points: 100][Rescue Points: 0][Overall: 100]

"*Chuckle* 69. The funny number."

"Holy shit, he got no question correct." A boy shouted, turning to the young master, also known as Peng Yu, who was staring silently at the board. "And he is saying we are his stepping stone."

Due to the three of them, Theresa, the boy sitting in front of her, and the young master being the only three Overtone had not spoken to, everyone immediately knew who the three dummies of the class were. Using context clues, they further figured out who each name belonged to, between the three of them.

Theresa for the girl. Peng Yu for the Chinese boy. And Darius was the last one, who looked like a dead body.

"But all their Villain Points are high." A girl mumbled, glancing at Theresa at the back of the class, who was 'casually' using her phone. "And she saved thirty people."

"That's the only reason they were even allowed into the school." Overtone said, his eyes bouncing between the three of them. "They wouldn't have entered if not for their high scores, and if it doesn't increase by the end of this semester, all three of them would be expelled."

"*Scoff* Like I give a shit." Theresa said, looking up from the phone. The only reason I'm in this U.A. wannabe school is because of my mother, so if I get expelled, it will work in my favor."

"What a harsh tongue you have, Miss Fernsby." Overtone smiled, "So, tell me why you got such a low score."

"Because I guessed through the questions." Theresa shrugged, "I didn't expect that they would consider my written test when I was applying for the hero department." She looked at the smartboard, "I am sure no one got better than me---" She froze when she noticed that the young master, who couldn't use his legs, was higher than her in villain bot destruction. Confusion welled up in her, but she quickly regained her composure, she continued what she was saying. "No one got higher than me."

"By that logic," Saiko chimed in, leering at her. "You didn't expect a heroic 'high school' to teach you Japanese, math, science, and foreign languages, among other subjects?" She questioned, emphasizing the high school. "You are more stupid than the test score implies."

A roar of laughter erupted through the class, with Peng Yu staring in confusion. Theresa's face flushed in range as she bolted up from her seat, glaring at Saiko. "Say that again, bitc----"

Her voice suddenly disappeared as if someone had muted her on television. "Language, Fernsby." Overtone said, "This is a classroom."

Theresa turned her attention to him and began shouting at him, but no sound emanated from her mouth. Her silent shouting caused the students to laugh louder, causing her anger to reach its peak.

She picked up her bag and launched it at Saiko, not even checking if the bag hit the girl before storming out of the class. Before the bag could hit Saiko, the boy behind her with a mutation quirk that gave him the head of a jackal and black skin to match his head. He had a similar appearance to Anubis.

"Thank you, Mr. Jack." Overtone said to the boy, who nodded and placed the bag beside him. He was the second rank in the class, earning a flawless mark, but only managing to get seven of the last twenty questions correct, putting him below Saiko. "And you, Miss Intelli, your input was not required."

"I am sorry for misspeaking, but her logic confused me." Saiko apologized, returning to her book.

"Since Miss Fernsby is out of the class, why don't we move on to you, Mr. Ghaybuba?" Overtone turned to the boy, chewing his thumb while staring into space. "Why did you get low scores on your written test?"

"I was distracted." He replied monotonously. "The boy in front of me had a tasty-looking flesh I wanted to eat."

"..."

"What the fuck?" The boy in front of him cursed, moving his chair. "Please, don't joke like that."

"Yeah. You already look like a zombie, so talking about eating flesh would make it scarier." a girl agreed, confusing Darius. He was telling the truth. The flesh of the boy really did distract him.

"Ok... Mr. Ghaybuba..." Overtone said, turning to the last person. "LET'S MOVE ON! NOW, Mr. Peng. Why did you score a 0?!"

Snickers echoed through the classroom as Peng Yu stood up. "This one came to this sect to be a warrior, not a scholar." He turned to Saiko, directing his attention to her. "Being a scholar is for those who don't have the strength to be a warrior. They rely on the warrior for protection and are bound to serve. This one is not one that needs protection. Moreover, this one is the young master of Peng's clan."

"So you are saying that intelligence is only for the weak?" She asked, turning to him and tilting her head. "I fail to understand the logic behind that statement."

"This one never said that." Peng Yu shook his head. "One can be intelligent without being a scholar. This one only means being a scholar is junior to being a warrior---"

"OKEY!!!" Overtone roared, ending the argument before it could begin. "You three will receive supplementary lessons to catch on to the class. LOOK FORWARD TO IT!"

Peng Yu sighed, sitting down. "This young master chose the wrong sect. Who knew they would put a scholar and a warrior at the same level?"

"Can I use the bathroom?" Darius asked as he stood up to leave without being given permission.

"NO!" Overtone replied, "WE ARE ABOUT TO READ THROUGH WHAT THE CLASS RULES AND REGULATIONS---"

Darius didn't listen and opened the door, leaving the classroom.

"..." Overtone stared silently at the door before bursting out laughing. "IT SEEMS LIKE I WILL HAVE TO TEACH SHIKETSU'S VALUES."

Theresa stepped down from the school bus, entering the forested area of the school ground. Due to the size of the school campus, the campus has its own bus system that departs at different times. She had just entered the first one she saw and came here.

After venturing deep into the forest, she squatted down, covering her face and screaming. "Shit! I was fucking humiliated!" She cried. The laughter of her lowly classmates and the eyes of the girl, Saiko, that looked at her like she was stupid. They laughed at her like she was some dumb circus animal when THEY were the circus animals. SHE was the one who was supposed to be laughing at THEM. "FUCK! I will kill that bitch! They will all pay!"

Out of the corner of her eyes, she noticed a purple cloud of fog rising from the forest floor and rapidly enveloping the area, obscuring her vision of the situation within. "Now, what?" She muttered, standing up and squinting at the purple cloud.

Stepping out of the purple cloud was a very tall and thin person standing over seven feet tall. Their white scarf encompasses their head, with three vertical eyes in the front, where their eyes were supposed to be, and only their mouth being the visible part of their face, with some of their black hair sticking out from the top of the scarf.

Their entire body was wrapped tightly in dirty white bandages, revealing not a single skin, with their mouth and some of their hair the only part of the person's body visible to the world.

The person turned to face her before quickly looking at the ground. "Um...Hi?" The person spoke in a low, almost inaudible tone.
