1 Evil Life Simulator

Outside Liyue Harbor, in a nondescript grove of trees.

Li Xingshan was stirring the bonfire with a stick, trying to absorb the fact that he had just crossed over and awakened the system.

[Congratulations, host, for activating the "Evil Simulator" system!]

[The system allows the host to live a simulated life. If you behave well in the simulated life, you can earn rich rewards!]

[Moreover, please try to play the evil role in the simulator. Otherwise, deal with the consequences yourself!]

"So, the function of your system is a 'life simulator?' As long as I go through the simulator once, I can earn rewards?"

[Correct! Your understanding is spot on!]

"But, I don't understand, why must I be a villain in the simulated life?"

[The system aims to increase chaos in the simulated life, boosting the 'chaos index.' If the chaos index is higher, the rewards are richer. Generally speaking, the more evil the role you play, the easier it is to create chaos!]

"But, I don't want to be the bad guy," Li Xingshan shook his head.

[Is the host a saintly figure then?]

"Wait, wait, does not wanting to be a bad guy automatically make me a saintly figure? That's a bit extreme! Plus, isn't it strange to want to avoid being a bad guy? First, being bad means hurting people, and I don't want to hurt anyone. Second, being bad means being hated by others, and I don't want to be hunted down!"

[Don't worry, everything that happens in the simulated life is entirely made up. You can think of it as a game, and the bad things you do won't harm anyone. Similarly, even if the characters in the simulated life hate you, it won't affect you in real life!]

"But, why did you choose me specifically?" Li Xingshan was getting frustrated. "Wouldn't it be easier to just choose someone who's already evil?"

Li Xingshan may not be an absolute embodiment of goodness, but he's definitely not a bad person.

[The system wants to find out, can a kind-hearted everyday person maintain their morality in the face of constant evil-doing?]

"That's pretty malicious of the system, huh..." Li Xingshan sighed, thinking aloud: "But in general, these system things exist to benefit the host. If I'm not interested in the benefits, the system can't force me to comply, right?"

[The system will test the host regularly. If the host isn't capable, they'll die in the simulation.]

It seems that I am merely a plaything for the system. But thinking it through, it makes sense. Systems like this are created by higher dimensional beings; nobody gets a system for free. There must be a reason.

Maybe I am like the gate in "The World of Chuci," watched by higher dimensional beings—the "system."

"Well, since that's the case, let's begin! I won't believe that I can't survive without being a villain!"

[Activating the Evil simulator!]

[Please select three abilities at random from the list below. At the end of the simulation, one will randomly be kept as your inherent ability!]

(Rarity, from low to high: white, green, blue, purple, gold)

[Thirst for Alcohol (white): You love drinking]

[Born Poor (white): You have difficulty getting rich]

[Lowly Origins (white): You come from a poor family]

[Deeply Evil (purple): Your success rate when committing evil deeds increases]

[Always Up to No Good (purple): Extra rewards for doing bad things]

[One More Time (purple): You get a second chance to avoid death and try again (each simulation allows up to one use)]

...

Apart from the ordinary white abilities, most of the rare abilities are associated with "evil."

What's more, even the seemingly harmless white abilities mostly have negative effects. It's as if the system is forcing you to do evil things.

Li Xingshan sighed and looked at the list of abilities again. As someone who valued his morality, he confronted a great challenge. But he thought to himself, "I'm not afraid of hardship! I'll find a way to beat the system!"

Determined, he picked three abilities that seemed to have the least negative impact: "Thirst for Alcohol," "Born Poor," and "Lowly Origins." Focusing on alcohol wouldn't directly harm others, and being poor and of lowly origins might even encourage people to help him, making him more likely to do good.

As he continued to live within the simulated life, he tried his best to avoid giving in to evil temptations. Some days, it was easier, but on others, he faced tremendous pressure to conform. However, every time Li Xingshan faced a tough situation, he felt grateful for the chance to learn and grow, providing him the opportunity to overcome the system's challenge.

Additionally, he began to form new friendships in this virtual world. Because of his lowly origins, it was easier for him to connect with people in a genuine manner. Through his experiences with them, Li Xingshan realized that every person has a valuable story to tell, and that understanding could help shape his own identity.

Li Xingshan dove deeper into the simulated life, embracing its ups and downs, and turned the system's challenge into a journey of self-discovery.

But, unbeknownst to him, a major challenge was on the horizon. A particular character, unimpressed by Li Xingshan attempts to change the system, would appear, intent on putting him to the ultimate test...

Would Li Xingshan prevail, or would the system succeed in its malicious goal? Follow the story to see how Li Xingshan navigates the complexities of the "Evil Life Simulator."

...

As it turned out, Li Xingshan's calculated choice paid off. In the simulation, he learned that the system tested him relentlessly, bombarding him with temptations and inducing chaos. However, he remained firm in his resolve to avoid evil and embrace kindness.

Li Xingshans' inherent ability at the end of the simulation was: "Born Poor." While he had hoped for a less negative ability, it reminded him of the important lessons he learned: the value of friendships, empathy, and humility.

Throughout the various trials and tribulations, Li Xingshan gained invaluable experience that would help him better navigate the world and understand others.

Ultimately, Li Xingshan welcomed the challenge for what it was, a chance to evolve and strengthen his character, demonstrating the incredible resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity. The tale of I, Li Xingshan, and the "Evil Life Simulator" would continue to inspire all who heard it.

Some people's "Evil Life Simulator" starts with awesome abilities, and mine has this kind of villain opening?

Feeling helpless, Lee Xingshan still chose ["Deeply Evil," "Will do Bad," and "One More Chance"].

Oh, well, might as well select them.

[Simulation begins.]

[0 yrs: Born in a wealthy merchant family in Liyue Harbor.]

Seems nice, to start.

[1 yrs: Found a mora while picking up Zhou; father excited, thinks Lee Xingshan will be a good merchant.]

[2 yrs: Father hires two nurses for Lee Xingshan.]

That's extravagant, isn't it?

But it's probably not a bad thing though.

[3 yrs: Not weaned yet...]

Still drinking mom's milk...but it's understandable.

[4 yrs: No change.]

[5 yrs: No change.]

[6 yrs: Father thinks it's not good, fires the wet nurses.]

That makes sense, not like I'm a baby teacher, can't just keep drinking like that.

[7 yrs: On the street, you see a group of boys bullying a purple-haired girl. Choose:]

[1. Help the girl.]

[2. Bully the girl.]

Helping is a good action, bullying is bad.

No brainer, right?

Bullying a little girl, that's too evil!

"I'll help the girl," answers Lee Xingshan.

[You shield the girl and try to protect her, but the kids beat you up instead; punched in the chest by an older kid twice your age and die.]

What the heck, that's so absurd!

Well, kids don't hold back, no legal responsibility, and a punch can accidentally kill someone, it's possible.

[Would you like to use the talent "One More Chance" to redo this?]

"I will."

[Life simulator restarting...]

[7 yrs: On the street, see a group of boys bullying a purple-haired girl. Choose:]

[1. Help the girl.]

[2. Bully the girl.]

"B...bully the girl?"

Nothing else I can do here.

Just words in the "Life Simulator" anyway.

[You bully the purple-haired girl with the other kids. Surprisingly, the girl proves quite strong with a wooden sword, fighting back against you all. Eventually, two of you are hurt equally, and the wounded purple-haired girl glares at you: "I'll remember your face, I'll get back at you for this one day!"]
