8 Chapter 8 Upgrades
While waiting for the downloads to finish, I helped Mama at the bar to try and gain some eddies back, I hoped Padre could give me a new gig soon enough to make some money and gain some sweet XP, two hours later I returned to my room, 50 eddies and 80 XP richer than I was before.
I placed both my guns near my bed, ready to be used if needed, and checked my mind, which now worked like one of those mind palaces for the information I had just downloaded.
What I discovered during my surf on the net, was that unless you have specific body modifications that connect your cyberdeck to your body parts, knowledge downloaded from the net can't be used, if I were to download a pack with Martial arts knowledge, that knowledge would remain in my mind, but I can only try and copy it using my normal body, which isn't that bad honestly, I will simply grind while waiting to full chrome the fuck up.
While surfing among the packets I downloaded I received several notifications that a smile appeared on my face.

I got up from the bed I had sat on and took a boxing fight position as I always did, but throwing some fists in the air, I felt that something felt wrong in the way I placed my feet, moved my body, and threw the fist, so after 30 minutes of trial and error and I got rewarded with another level in Martial arts.
'Must be the effect of Mentor Status, I knew something was wrong and I was able to easily adjust it, but the best way to raise the skill is to use it in actual combat.'
And here comes the last important thing about having access to the Net, videogames, shooting, fighting, driving, you name it, there was a simulator for it, sure, some required much more advanced cyberwar, but others like Shooting Simulator 2070, didn't, the brain created an illusion of a gun in your hand and targets around you for you shoot and aim for.
Now usually these types of games are made for children, but if you download some mods, you can obtain your firing range in your mind.
Starting the game, the world around me turned black, the only thing breaking the pattern being some red balloons, and a white gun placed on my right hand, which I had selected as my dominant hand.
One of the problems with not having the right cyberwar was that none of the side-effects were present, no recoil, no weight, no damage from getting hit, but something is better than nothing, and after shooting the constantly moving balloons, my theory had proven correct.

After seeing Padre's call I answered while coming out of the shower after the nth training session.
I gave a quick look at myself in the mirror, my hair now much more under control shaved on the side and much shorter on the upper, my eyes showing my Asian heritage by being sharper than normal eyes, my body starting to get much more toned thanks to my stats raising and the effect of Physical Conditioning, callus forming on my hands, in short terms, I was unrecognizable from my previous self.
While my eyes glowed Padre started talking.
" Akira, I was made aware by a friend that you have your first implants, and that you didn't waste time getting yourself in shape, I hope you are ready for a new job," Padre told me while making a friendly laugh come out of his mouth.
" Never been readier."
