Until he saw a thick broken tree branch on the floor ahead of him and between himself and the ape.

Seeing this he smiled as he ran as fast as can towards the ape with a kill or be killed mindset.

The moment the ape entered his range, the boy jumped at the ape, and grabbed on a tree branch to leaped higher to avoid the ape outstretched hand, with a summersault the boy barely jumped past the apes reach.

Landed the boy on his hands and feets In a crunched position, before making a immediate turn and charged at the ape as it struggled to slow down and respond with a full swing of it's right arm at the boy coming at it from it back.

The boy seeing the ape being conscious of his approach immediately slid on the floor to avoid the ape's attack as he reached out and took the tree branch and barely avoiding the ape's foot as he was almost stomped on, without delay the boy swung the thick tree branch at the ape's face with a smile to agitate it further.

The system showed that the ape's hp had dropped by one point, but the action of the boy irritated the ape so much it rubbed it face to access the damage done, seeing the boy smiling as he stood some meters away from the ape with his back turned to a broken fallen tree with it's roots still within the earth and it broken edges being roughly pointed out in all directions.

The ape immediately activated it empower skill, and allocated it to it's strength, and jumped with it's arms over it head with the intention to crush it's prey, the boy seeing the ape attack rolled out of the way, and immediately the ape attack crashed on the edge of the broken tree.

Roared the ape in pain, before it looked at it hands, seeing the outpour of blood from it's hands, it entered a controlled angered state, before it immediately shifted it empower skill to speed as it had already recovered a mp, plus the other two mp it had left for a short burst of speed.

Immediately the boy, saw the ape in pain, he slammed the thick branch against his knee and immediately took the pieces with blunt edges and readied himself before the ape recovered.

The boy seeing as the ape stood motionless with it back turned, knew the next attack was going to be a serious gamble, where the winner takes all and the loser death.

So he steadied his heart and prepared for what's to come.

The ape hearing the sound of the broken wood knew the boy was waiting for it to turn, for a possible finishing attack, knowing that it only needed to hit it prey once it was willing to gamble it on a battle of speed.

The ape sensing this might be it's moment of death became eratic and turned with a maddening glare as the boy reacted to the ape's movement and also dashed with all that he had.

Both yelled to unleash their desire to be the dominant one.
