This is probably one of the best ASOIAF fics Iβve read and yes, I know that itβs put under GOT, but letβs face it, if Iβve read the books then this story is for u. U can just tell how much care and attention to detail the author has put into this. Some actions and schemes catch u completely off-guard and leave u asking why theyβre doing that. But then the author turns around and reveals that he didnβt just put it in there for shits and giggles. He actually knows his shit and what heβs doing. Another thing I love besides the world building and political understanding of the world, is that the author understands how visions in ASOIAF work. Theyβre not the end all be all and are quite frankly, confusing af. They donβt give u the answers outright and as a wise turtle once said, one often meets the destiny on the road they take to avoid it. Visions in ASOIAF give u all the answers, but their hidden in riddles and presented in ways that hide the truth. As a result, more often than not, visions lead u to making the wrong decisions or like in Harry Potter, it becomes self-fulfilling. This shows itself in the whole Ironborn issue, which spoilers, does happen. The reason being, the visions donβt provide all the answers and Robb who still loves and trusts Theon, believes that by sending him to the Iron Islands he can avoid an Ironborn invasion of the north, but then lo and behold, it turns out to be the very thing that causes it. We know that, but Robb didnβt and he learned that mistake which I think is amazing. The author isnβt make Robb steamroll over his enemies like he did in the beginning and while it seems that way at the start, the longer the war goes on, more and more of robbβs shortcomings come to light. Heβs not a Gary Stu, heβs not a perfect King, heβs just a perfect field commander. This alone is something I love because often when u read a Robb story, they make him a Gary Stu which completely defeats the purpose of his character. So in my personal opinion, read this story. If u love the books then read this book, the author seems to know and understand what heβs on about. And he also seems to have a wider plan for the story which Iβm looking forward to reading.
I donβt usually do two reviews for a story but this is just too good. I canβt stress how much u need to read this story. The War of Five Kings is something the author has handled well, not just the battles, but also the politics and how every side no matter how badly theyβre losing, are still a threat that if left alone could damage u. Magic is also something that the author understands. People always say that Robb doesnβt have it or heβs weak in it, but they ignore the fact that magic in ASOIAF is about sacrifice. To use it properly, u need to sacrifice something in turn. The Stark children only got magic imo is only because they have a Direwolf bond. Robb distanced himself Grey Wind and therefore, never developed his magic. However, in this fic, he never distanced himself from Grey Wind, his bond is actually stronger and due to a deeper belief in magic and gods, heβs not scared of it like he was in the books. So Iβm really looking forward to see what the author does with this. And yes, Iβm a serious ASOIAF nerd.
It is a criminally underrated story, the idea of a fan fiction with a protagonist who is an already existing character without reincarnation shenanigans and not even some sort of op cheat is surprisingly new and welcome. Robb does have a boon, but it isn't neither out of place nor does it change everything by only existing, him talking to the old gods is not only possible thanks to the Stark siblings powers, but also pretty fitting and suited to the world of got, I'm tired of cheats that come from external sources and break the rules of the world. Above all the thing I like the most is that this is a fanfiction where the characters, so far, remain true to their characterization from the original work.
