Chapter 125: Lyanna's death

"Lyanna.." Said Ned while hurrying to his sister's side. He got frightened after seeing this scene. He thought that he might lose his sister after he lost his father and his brother.

"Ned, Is that you?" Asked Lyanna in a weak voice. She was so tired at the moment, and Edward could swear that even if he wanted to save her, he could not do such a thing. Lyanna should have lost most of her blood by the time they arrived here.

"Is this a dream?" Asked Lyanna as she thought she was hallucinating after losing that much blood giving birth to her son.

"No, it is not a dream. I am here beside you, and Edward is here as well." Said Ned trying to reassure the dying flower.

Lyanna tried to move her head a little and try to get a look at Edward as well. Seeing her reaction, Edward came close to her to hold her other hand.

"Don't worry, Little Lyanna. We are here for you." Said Edward with a sad smile. Although he decided to let her die, it was still a little saying this scene.

"Big brother, Edward, I want to be brave. I don't want to die." Said Lyanna with a weak voice as she held her brother's hand with a little strength.

"You are not going to die. Get her some water." Said Ned as he turned to the maid and shouted at her to get Lyanna some water.

"No, listen to me, Ned." Said Lyanna as she pulled Ned's head near his mouth and whispered her last words to him.

"You must not let Robert know. You have to protect him." Said Lyanna as she looked at the both of them, especially Edward, who was standing on her left.

"Don't worry, little Lyanna. I would not say a word." Said Edward as he looked at the dying Lyanna after nodding his head.

The maid, then, came close to Ned and handed the newborn baby to him. Ned took the child and looked at him. He could see Lyanna's features all over the child. He thought for a plan at that moment and could see that he could introduce this child as his son. Since the Stark's bloodline was much stronger than the Targaryen and Jon's hair did not take after his father, it would be much easier to trick everyone with this reason. He only had to convince Edward to go up with his plan.

"Promise me, Ned. Promise me that you would protect him." Said Lyanna as she would never hate her innocent child for what his father did. Although Rhaegar's love was twisted and did all these horrible things to Lyanna, Lyanna loved the child that came out from her womb and did not wish for him to get hurt by Robert and the others.

"I promise." Said Ned as his tears started getting out of his eyes. His emotions were not stable at the moment. His beloved sister would not survive, and he would only have his brother, Ben, as his remaining family. His mother had just died not long ago after a long time of fighting against her illness that came to her after she lost her husband and son.

Lyanna turned her face to Edward after getting Ned's promise and smiled at him. She did not want him to blame himself as she was the one who did not listen to his warning. Edward even performed a blood magic ceremony to protect her, but nothing worked. She regretted not leaving with her brother and Edward after they left Harrenhal. If Lyanna did that, all the things that happened to her would have never happened. She did not know that even if she had left Harrenhal with her brother, Edward would have found another way so that Rhaegar could kidnap her to start the rebellion. He did not have another big way to start The Rebellion and pull the other three big houses with him without Lyanna. Poor Lyanna, until the moment she died, she would think that Edward was a perfect man who did all he could to save her when it was the other way around.

Edward raised her hand, which was very pale at the moment, and planted a kiss on it. It was his farewell to the beautiful and admirable She-Wolf. Maybe, in another timeline, Edward would have rescued her and married her instead of giving her to his brother. But he had made the decision, and he had to live with it. He would not falter for even a moment after making his decisions. Edward did not want to sacrifice his ambitions for a woman. He would never do something like that for Lyanna nor Ashara herself. Edward saw that there was a good chance for him with Ashara. He could work on changing Ashara's personality to his liking so that she could help him to achieve his ambitions.

If Edward thought there was no chance of him changing her, he would have forsaken his love for her and married another woman instead. The only ones capable of changing his mind at the moment were his children, but since he thought that what he was doing was for the sake of his children, he would not abandon his ambitions.

Lyanna smiled a little after Edward kissed her hand. She thought it would be wonderful if she got betrothed to Edward instead of his brother. Edward always cared about her more than Robert did, although Robert was her fiance and not Edward. Just look at the behavior and the difference between the two. Lyanna could make her judgment based on that. Lyanna hoped that she would meet someone like Edward in her next life.

Before Lyanna could thank Edward for everything he did for her, she sensed that her strength was getting out of her, and it was much difficult for her to take her breath. She knew that her end had come, and she would soon leave from this place. So Lyanna decided to close her eyes and await her death. She hoped that her son would live a good and happy life under her brother's care. The next minute, The poor Lyanna took her last breath in this life before she died.

Ned, who was still holding the little Jon, started to cry out loud this time. Ned was much closer to Lyanna than his father and his brother. Rickard was a strict man who was a little harsh in his treatment, especially with Ned. It was always like that for the second son. As for Brandon, although he was friendly with Ned and the brothers were more closed, Brandon's lifestyle of whoring and drinking made Ned get a little far away from him. Lyanna was the one that Ned care about the most after his mother.

Edward decided to leave Ned so he could say his farewell to his sister. He decided to wait downstairs till Ned calmed down a little. They still had to cover Lyanna and take her with them to Storm's End, where they would ship her body back to The North so that she could get buried in the crypt along with her father and brother, who Ned had just taken their remains from King's Landing not long ago.
