Tyland lanniser POV

I was on my way to the capital. The orders had arrived from my father. I was now participating in squire's tourney as a squire to my father. This was to gain experience, on the surface, the reason had been to participate in a the upcoming tourney for Prince Rhaegar's name day. But, that was not the whole reason. I would know of it tomorrow.

We crossed the gates of the city. I had a small retinue of guards, including Aslan. He had been by my side for the better part of last 5 years.

"What do you think of the capital Aslan." I asked as we entered the city.

"Its impressive Tyland, of course it still pales in comparison to the plan you showed me." He replied with a shrug.

He had seen my plans for the lands surrounding Terbeck Hall and Casterly Rock, most of which were still just plans but one could see the grandeur from those sketches on the parchment. We were moving towards the castle and while going there I could see the intelligence in making Kings Landing the capital. Whatever people said about Targaryens they were, both the saner and crazy ones, smart. The capital was designed with one purpose.' Habitat the most number of people' along with being a centre of trade, it was the most populated area of the Westeros. It housed more people tha the whole fuckin North. After the Capital, the second most populated area was The Reach. And The Tyrells, were very loyal to the crown, hence the Targaryen would always have the most people to arm. Hence, securing their power.

Was this all intentional, probably. As I said, they were smart or they wouldn't rule for 260 years. We reached the castle gate and a few guards came out. They were the red cloaks. I followed them into The Hand's tower. Then I was greeted by the sight of my father conversing with a very old lady. She seemed well acquainted with my father, He saw me and beckoned me forwards,

"Good, it seems you were in time, meet The lady Martell. She was just about to leave for Dorne." He introduced me to the Queen of Dorne. I turned and gave the regular greeting.

"It is pleasure to see you, Lady Martell. I am sorry my greetings were late."

"It is good to see you too, I have heard a lot about you from the rumors." She said with a gentle smile.

"I hope its all good." I replied a bit cheekily.

"It is, you should visit Dorne. I would be delighted to host you."

I gently noded and turned to my father, he motioned for me to leave and well, I left. I still had to meet the King.

I was standing in the throne room. I could see the Iron throne, the power radiating from it. The sheer allure surrounding that chair showed that it was not just a regular chair. The greeting to the king had been eye opening. He had somewhat humiliated me by calling me an overqualified servant to the crown. Father had not liked that, but we remained quiet.

This was the famous Targaryen madness. How could it have gotten so bad. It was so bad that the King had somewhat alienated half the court. I at least knew that this was not meant to go like this. The madness had worsened after the Defiance of Duskendale. What had made it change, things were moving forward at a faster pace. This meat that I had to get rid of my habit of relying on foreknowledge.

In the Hand's solar me and father were sitting facing each other. This was the discussion I had been waiting for.

"You should have noticed that things are court are complicated." He started with trying to check my observation skills.

"Yes, the lords are divided. The king has loyal support of some, while the others are fighting among themselves to try and curry favour with the king." I replied, this was my rudimentary observation.

There were basically 3 factions. Those supporting Aerys, those fighting to lower his influence and then the quiet fraction, probably that of crown prince. They were all fighting among themselves to get the un predictable King's favour.

"The things have been becoming more dangerous for the last couple of years. The court is unsettled. Those of us old enough know that we face turmoil in the future. And with that knowledge what do we do?" another test,

"We look for the origin, the cause of all this,"

He nodded," I got the reports from Kevan about you progress, the castle at Terbeck Hall is almost complete. The plans for the city are also very impressive. I wanted you to come to the capital to become familiar with it. The prince will also be present during his nameday. You two could get acquainted. He had shown an interest in meeting you, so I planned on getting this done sooner rather than latter."

I took in all of the information, Rhaegar Targaryen wanted to meet me. Understandable, seeing that he was said to appreciate talent, and well I was Lord Tywin's son. My father had kept the kingdom running for all this time, as his son I would be a good option to be his successor.

I was about to meet the most conflicting character in the entire series. Everyone praised Rhaegar Targaryen, but they had all rebelled against him. He was said to be the saving grace after Aerys's madness yet was killed before he could even sit on the throne. Killed either because of love or madness, the answer to this no one knew. I hoped for th first, because love I could understand, yet madness was not something that I could follow.

"I understand,"

"Good, now go to your room. And always have guards with you, the castle is a mysterious place. It is always better to be cautious."
