8 Spell-Type Magic

Standing facing each other on the wide grassland, I listened to Melissa serious explanation.

"Spell casting or Mantra Recitation is an advanced technique in the study of magic. in contrast to magic without spell which only requires control ability, magic that requires spell casting really requires a high level of concentration."

"I'll show you an example."

Moving the fan in her hand slowly to the right, Melissa began to cast a magic spell.

"O wind, symbol of freedom, shape my form with the wind that blows calmly around me – Wind Clone."

Like an illusion that becomes reality, in a place that seemed empty now appeared a figure resembling Melissa standing calmly looking at me.

I, who couldn't help feeling amazed and curious immediately held her hand and could feel the softness of a human skin.

"This looks so real." I said amazed by what I saw.

"Of course. Magic is not a trick. My clone was created from a combination of wind elements and mana originating from my body reinforced with spells. This magic will continue to drain my mana as long as my clone has not been destroyed or disappeared. The clone will disappear automatically if the magic user runs out of mana."

"Spell is a rope that connects the user's mana and natural elements even strengthens the connection between the two. Without a spell, a clone would not be able to be created due to the lack of connection between natural elements and the magic user's mana. In the case of offensive type magic that causes damage, spells can enhance the effects of the magic such as amplifying the damage, expanding the range, or speeding up the magic."

"For non-elemental magic, the spell functions as an activation condition like when you saw me summon Qi and Ki last night."

Melissa's long explanation was very easy for me to understand. Now I understand why spell-type magic is more difficult to learn compared to non-incantation magic.

"However, there are several risks that must be considered in using spell-type magic. you have to be smart in choosing the type of magic when involved in a fight. That's because it would be very dangerous if your incantation was interrupted while you were fighting. I will give you an example what will happen if you lose your concentration and your incantation get interrupted at the process."

Melissa's clone, which previously just stood quietly, suddenly moved away from the two of us.

I then saw Melissa's clone pointing both of her hands at me while chanting a spell. When I saw the magic began to form and was soon ready to be shot at me. Suddenly, Melissa's clone became silent and both of her hands exploded and shattered.

I was shocked when I saw it, like a balloon that burst because it couldn't withstand the amount of the wind inside it.

"Do you understand what just happened?" asked Melissa, giving me a quiz.

Analyze what just happened to her clone. I answered the question according to what I thought.

"Previously you explained that spells are a connecting link between natural elements and the magic user's mana. This means when the spell stops being chanted, the balance between the natural elements and the user's mana is lost, causing an explosion that comes from the combination of these two types of power?"

Melissa nodded and added, "That's right. It's just the level of damage varies depending on the energy that has been accumulated before the magic can be released."

"Ok, I understand the basics of spell-type magic. it's just what about the incantation? The words I have to say in order to cast magic successfully."

"Regarding that, each sentence has its own meaning and because our natural elements are different, I can't help you with this. You can buy grimoires in the city or borrow some from the magic knight's library."

When I was already feeling disappointed because I thought I can only learn the theory and couldn't practice the spell-type magic right now, Melissa said something that made me excited again.

"I may not be able to teach you elemental magic because our elements affinity are different but I can still teach you non-elemental type magic that uses spell casting."

"Really?"

I feel like my enthusiasm has returned. I asked what kind of magic Melissa would teach me.

Melissa took out a scroll and threw it to me.

"What is this?" I asked while looking at the scroll in my hand.

"The magic I will teach you will be very useful for a magic knight. This magic is a simple magic but has  a big role in your future work. The name of the magic I will teach you is weapon release. A magic that will make it easier for you to carry various kinds of weapons and use them when needed."

As before, Melissa demonstrated the magic in front of me again so I could more easily understand her explanation.

Took out a scroll, Melissa opened the scroll in her hand while chanting a spell. The difference is the spell that Melissa chanted is very short unlike the clone magic from before.

"Release!"

A fan with different pattern appeared from the scroll and was now in Melissa's hand.

"Different from the traditional wizard fighting style which only uses magic wands or magic books to increase their magic power while attacking the enemy using spells, magic knight weapons are not limited to just there 2 types of weapons."

"Apart from that, it will be very easy to carry a weapon if the weapon has been stored in a special dimension that is in the magic scroll in your hand."

"Now, try it yourself."

I nod and say, "Previously you said that in non-elemental type magic, the incantation is a function to activate the magic right? That means all I did was to channel my mana into this scroll while chanting the spell and the scroll will automatically release the weapon which is sealed inside it."

Channeling my mana into the scroll in my hand, I cast the spell, "Release!" then a gladius type sword appeared and I quickly caught it.

Melissa, who saw me succeed in the first attempt, smiled and gave additional explanation to me.

"Basically this scroll can store anything like weapons, tools, even magic. Of course it doesn't exceed the dimensional limits of the scroll."

"Isn't that amazing? Whoever creates magic scrolls has great abilities and wisdom." I said.

"What you say is true. However, magic scrolls also have limitations, such as not being able to store living creatures because the dimension in the scroll is a void dimension."

Today I have learned a lot from Melissa and I feel very grateful to her.

Before ending this training session, I didn't forget to hand over the gladius that was in my hand.

"Melissa, thank you for teaching me magic even though you know I was lying all this time. I swear I will not disappoint you. Oh, and this is the gladius from the scroll."

Maybe because of my sincerity and my confession, Melissa didn't act as coldly as before.

Unexpectedly, Melissa even said, "Consider the gladius a gift from me. You haven't received any weapon from Aldoun, right? you can seal the gladius back into the scroll with 'Seal' spell."

Following Melissa's instructions, I re-sealed the gladius into a scroll before hiding it in my clothes.

"Shall we go back now?" I asked Melissa and Melissa nodded.

Back towards the city, we walked side by side while discussing various interesting thing about magic.

When the players looked at the two of us, I started to hear some of the whispers they were saying about us.

"Not only he was an expert at getting quest and getting job, now he also got a beautiful NPC? Damn, I'm jealous."

"Isn't that NPC is the NPC that made us unconscious last time?"

"That means he didn't just get an NPC but a beautiful, cute, and strong one?"

"After the drama he created, we were trusted by the NPCs and also received various quests. Although there were still no quest that allowed us to learn magic."

"I wonder what his relationship status is with that NPC. Are they just an acquaintances, friends, or g-girlfriends?"

"I don't accept if their relationship is very intimate like a c-c-couple. I mean we have our little brother down there so I'm sure that kind of relationship is definitely possible in this game."

"I have an idea. What if we ask him about tips on getting an NPC girlfriend in this game? I'm sure the game will become more interesting."

"Since yesterday you've been coming up with crazy ideas. What if you just ask him because we don't want to get into trouble with him!"

"Jeez, I'm just kidding, you don't need to be aggressive like this."

"Joking? The look in your eyes didn't say that you were joking. Apart from that, stop causing troubles. Remember everything we do or say has a big impact like a domino effect. In this city the strongest player is him and if we want to become better, we have to follow his methods and don't cause any trouble for him."

Ignoring the players whispering, I escorted Melissa to the front door of her house, I intended to return to the magic knight dormitory to exit the game. However, when I just entered the first floor, a surprise awaited me because many magic knights had gathered and gave me an experience that I would never have in the real world.
