My mother and I explore the room and I'm just watching her eyes examine every device and…stuff. It's weird being in this room with my mom. We're like best friends, but we haven't been open about sex. So this is new territory for me.

Once we're done—thank god—we go back downstairs. But not before my mother lay a hand on my arm to stop me for a minute. "You okay?" she asks.

I blink, unsure why she's asking me that. Do I look like I'm unwell? "Of course. Why?"

She scans my face, her gentle eyes flitting here and there as if making sure I'm telling the truth. She always does this when she's observing every little thing about me. When I did something wrong and lied to her, she definitely knew. I was convinced my mom was a fortune teller. 

A small smile tilts on her mouth. "Nothing, honey. It's just that…You've been nervous since we arrived. Is something wrong? You know you can talk to me, don't you?"
