Gabriela is a remarkably powerful angel who grew up under the guidance of her mentors, each of whom carefully helped shape her into a powerful weapon against demons. Everything seemed to be going well, and Gabriela was soon to be released into the world when one of her mentors realized that as skilled as she was, she had no compassion. In an effort to instill empathy in her before its too late, Gabriela has been sent to earth to live amongst humans, with her abilities sealed. But will she actually learn what it means to care, or will her ingrained fixation on battle lead her astray?

Chapter Twelve

For a while, Rennyn watched the angel's internal struggle. He could tell that she was trying to think of ways to get out of this, but her pacing was a sign that she was getting nowhere.

Whatever other thoughts plagued her mind were of no consequence to Rennyn, but he did need her to focus. As much as he didn't want to admit it, it'd probably be best if the two of them cooperated in order to leave sooner. If their stories didn't match, the police would need more time to figure out the truth of the matter. So even though Rennyn was positive he could make up a convincing story that made him look like the victim (not that he needed to, since it was the truth that she attacked him out of nowhere), it wouldn't allow him to leave any sooner. He decided, since the angel continued to quietly suffer in her own head, that he'd need to be the one to break the silence.

"You can do that all you want angel, but it isn't going to get you out of here any quicker," he commented, standing beside the metal bars that separated them, inspecting his fingernails instead of continuing to watch her pace herself dizzy. "You're probably thinking about how you can get out without them noticing, or using brute force to break yourself free, but then they'll just come after you and whatever it is you're here to do, you'll always have to be looking over your shoulder to make sure no one's recognized you."

Not that he cared. If she really wanted to escape, so be it. But he'd stay, and she would be the only suspicious one. So in the end, it was win-win for him, whether she paid attention to his words or not.

"The best course of action, whether you like it or not, is to cooperate with me to come up with a story. Working together is the smartest way for both of us to get out of here. And then, when we both aren't worried about the human authorities breathing down our necks, you can try and use your little feather brain to rethink your attack strategy in a way that doesn't involve mindlessly attacking me in a park when I'm trying to remove a pedophile. Maybe I'll even give you some tips." The last part was a joke, of course, but he couldn't help but try and insert some humor in this situation.

This really wasn't where he expected he'd be when he came to earth, and he was sure that if anyone was monitoring him right now, they'd be laughing their ass off.

Well, now he had a story to tell, he supposed. He couldn't help but imagine himself one day, a high ranking demon, telling the youth about how he got stuck in a cage next to an angel that wanted to kill him.
