Chapter Thirteen: Transformation (Part Two)

As the mangled corpse of the monster fell to the ground, Xiao Ran refused to relent. He squatted down, using the tip of his blade to pick out a finger-sized, blood-encased object from the filth between the zombie's brains, wiping it clean before carefully tucking it away.

Chu Ying watched Xiao Ran, bloodstained and transformed, with an expression of extreme fear. To her, this young man, just rescued yesterday, seemed like a different person altogether, capable of single-handedly taking on such a terrifying creature. Chu Ying even suspected Xiao Ran might have been infected with the zombie virus while on the third floor.

"Are you all alright? The zombie upstairs has been taken care of by me, but Wu Peng is dead," Xiao Ran tried to make his voice sound as gentle as possible as he approached them, but Chu Ying nervously raised her gun, stuttering, "Don't come any closer, what... what do you want?"

Realizing he had frightened them, Xiao Ran sighed and said, "I'm a bit tired. I just want to rest for a while. Chu, your brother is still unconscious. Take care of him for now. We can discuss matters later."

From the outside, the two nuclei looked similar in shape, but the one from the Long Tongue Zombie was white, while the one from the Big Mouth Zombie was black.

"Enough. Let's gamble with this and drink it. I've already ingested the G-virus; what else is there to fear?" Xiao Ran made up his mind, gritted his teeth, and used the tip of the blade to crush the not-too-hard outer shell of the white nucleus. He aimed the nucleus at his mouth, tilted his head back, and poured all the T-virus essence inside without leaving a single drop.

A bitter and astringent taste spread throughout Xiao Ran's taste buds as if he were drinking Chinese medicine. Xiao Ran held his breath and swallowed all the liquid.

Although the taste was unpleasant, it was within Xiao Ran's tolerance. Greedy as he was, Xiao Ran feared that one nucleus wouldn't be enough. He poured the liquid from the black nucleus down his throat as well. It wasn't as bitter, but it carried a pungent smell, nearly causing Xiao Ran to spit it all out.

"What a taste, all so unpleasant." Xiao Ran licked his lips, grabbed a bottle of mineral water, and drank it all to wash away the uncomfortable taste.

After ingesting the T-virus essence, Xiao Ran didn't experience the unique reaction he had imagined. Apart from the unpleasant taste, he didn't feel anything else. Even after more than ten minutes, there were no signs of any abnormality. Xiao Ran was puzzled. Was Chris deceiving him?

Xiao Ran whistled in amazement. After ingesting the nuclei, he finally gained control over the electric energy within his body. Although this amount of electric current was far from enough to harm his enemies, it was nonetheless a good start.
