3 Intuition

The phone could be heard ringing. Janet Thomas aka Natalie had just finished cleaning the kitchen counter after the morning breakfast and heard the phone ringing.

When the phone continued ringing she came out of kitchen and looked around for her husband. The mobile was lying on the dining table and her husband Jason was no where to be found. His coffee cup was empty and was placed next to the phone.

Natalie was fortunate enough to marry her crush Jason. It had just been less than 2 months that they had been married. And as per the custom of the Thomas family, the bride was given an option to change her name to match her husbands name which was considered lucky. It was not a mandate though.

Natalie had happily agreed to change her name and had chosen Janet for herself. However she had retained her maiden name in all her documents for official purpose.

Janet was crazy about Jason and was not aware of Thomas's background. She was adamant on getting married to him. Jason had eventually fallen in love with Janet but he was not sure if the relationship would work out especially that he had super natural powers while Janet was a normal human. He hadn't disclosed to his wife about he and his family being super humans to Janet yet.

Janet walked to the main door and found that it was closed from inside.So Jason must be inside the house. She grinned to herself thinking about her husband's absent minded nature. She walked back to the dining area and checked the caller's name and saw it was Rachael who had called Jason.

She knew Rachael was a close friend of Jason but she also knew that Rachael would not call Jason on weekends unless something was really bothering her. Rachael strictly followed the rule that weekends were meant for family time and would not bother anyone especially her close knit friend circle.

Janet was curious to know why Rachael had called but she wouldn't intervene in her husband's business especially when it came to matters relating to his friends. She picked the phone and carried it to the bedroom where she saw Jason coming out of the washroom.

"Honey, your friend had called you a few mins back" Janet told him as soon as she saw him stepping out of the bath.

"Which friend?" asked Jason while he continued wiping the wet hair on his head.

"Rachael " said Janet.

Jason abruptly stopped wiping his hair as soon as he heard that name. Janet could see creases on his forehead but remained silent. Rachael rarely calls him and after his wedding this was the first time she was calling him.

Although Janet did not want to interfere , curiosity was killing her especially when it was about Rachael. They say curiosity killed the cat and she was very well aware of this old English proverb. She almost opened her mouth to ask him but quickly held back.

Jason had lots of patience and rarely would he lose his temper. And in rare instances where he lost his temper it really got bad and it would take him days to get back to normal. She had once seen Jason's anger and would not do anything to trigger it and face the brunt of his anger. So she thought it's safer to just remain silent.

Jason quickly put on his clothes and told Janet that he may have to talk to Rachael in private. Janet got the hint and silently walked out of the room. Jason closed the door and locked his room and quickly chanted the spell for sound proofing the room. Although the sound proofing was not as strong as his dad's it was better than the sound proofing options available on earth.

He then dialled Rachael's number while Rachael was eagerly waiting for Jason's call back. She jumped up and received the call with just one ring.

"Jim" Rachael almost screamed into the phone.

"Omg, is everything alright? You scaring the shit outta me" Jason said in concerned tone.

"I am sorry Jim for calling your name that way. "

"Thats ok Rachael. You are my dear friend. I don't mind how you call me. So chill okay. Now tell me what's been bothering you. Spill our everything " Jim could sense tension in her voice.

"I have been having this bad intuition and I had to tell you, as you are the only person I can trust and rely on." Rachael had stressed the had in her statement.

Rachael paused for second contemplating how to put it across.

She then continued "Jim, no one better than you knows how crazy my intuitions work. And unfortunately just like the last time the intuitions don't seem right" said Rachel.

"Well Rachael, I know it's not easy sometimes. But we can always look for something good out of it. And let's say I have a particular intuition about future I may or may not necessarily get a way to escape out of bad situation. So let's face it"

"Jim, I am tired of the last adventure. I am not ready for another one. I am not like the excited kids in a famous five novel. I am not to looking out for another adventure to occur."

The way this statement was made by Rachael, Jim felt that Rachael's soul no more had the zeal or energy left to fight any more dangerous battles.

Jim sighed. Even he knew how bad it was the last time around. They had almost thought they had lost their lives to a powerful enemy. But luck had favoured them in the last minute.

"Jim are you there ?" Rachael's asked when she could not get a response from the other end

"Sure I am there Rachael. Just was lost for a moment. Hey listen, before we continue further I think we better hop on to ETM**** mode. I just kicked Janet out of the room before calling you. I know she will not ask. But I don't want her to feel left out of anything. So I'll make up something and tell her so she feels convinced"

"Sounds good Jim. So when can I wait for the first message. I wish I remembered to use the ETM earlier. Sometimes my brain doesn't work Jim"

"Thats okay Rachael. Don't stress. Just give me another 20 mins."

"Done" said Rachael before hanging up the call.

Jim chanted the spell and the sound proofing was lifted off.

He finally walked out of the room and called out for Janet. He was worried for Rachael although he did not show it in his conversation with Rachael. And now his worries had increased as he had to protect Janet the love of his life who had no powers and she could be used as an easy bait.

Janet knew Rachael as a friend but was not as close to her as Jim was to Rachael. She very well knew that they were childhood friends and Jim had liked Rachael once upon a time.

Janet was jealous of Rachael although she very well knew from sources that it was one sided. Her worries were laid to rest when Rachael had married Ethan.

When Janet heard Jason calling out her name, she pretended as if she had not heard him.

When Jason could not hear the melodious voice of his wife he knew something was brewing in Janets mind. He knew she would be curious and jealous and Janet would silently break her head over this call.

So he walked to where Janet was. He saw her reading the ad pages of the news papers sitting on the sofa searching for year end sales.

He sat beside her and started telling her that he got worried unnecessarily. Rachael had some plans for the new year and she wanted some help. He said she would send out a mail in some time with the details.

He saw Janet ignoring him but knew her sharp ears were listening to what he was saying.

"Sweet heart, Rachael is not aware of the party we organised 3 years back so there is a possibility that she may not be aware of your organising skills. I was her only go to person for her all these years."

Janet finally lifted her head and looked at Jim.

"Well, doesn't her family help her ?" asked Janet although she tried to her best to hide her jealousy. It was very evident.

Jason could not help chuckling at the cute face she made.

"Well Janet, a friend is a friend and a family is a family"

This seems to have confused Janet even more. Looking at her confused look Jason continued

"Can I ask you something Janet ?"

"Sure" said Janet.

"Who are you close to at home?" asked Jason to which Janet responded "Dad"

"Okay, so let's say you have some woman problems bothering you, do you talk about such problems with your dad?"

"No, I go to mum for such things." Janet paused before she continued "Okay now I get your point"

With this Janet came back to her normal cheerful self and said "Ok, tell me what kind of help does Rachael need and I will try and help her."

Jason finally felt relieved as he had managed to handle the situation.
