Chapter 7

The room looked just like any other classroom of this era. 4 rows of desks aligned with a great precision, a teacher's desk by the window and a massive blackboard in front.

Something, however, was different from the usual classrooms. Every other desk had a computer on in. And it was not the standard model that is given to schools by the state as a means of digitising the education, no. These were high-end machines with a massive computing power for current age.

Other than that, the room was empty. The candidates did not receive any instructions, so they just distributed themselves around the desks with computers. It seemed like there was as many candidates as desks with computers, so Daisuke assumed that this exam would involve a computer. Computers became a standard of testing and education in general around 2030, so it would not be for 15 more years. Daisuke expected the usual paper test, but this was something different.

He the row by the window in the very back of the classroom and observed other students. It was a test for math major, so unsurprisingly, the people taking the test were mainly male. This made the beautiful black-haired girl that Daisuke met on the bus for the first time stand out even more. She gracefully pulled out the chair and seated herself behind the computer. She then proceeded to flip her hair to get them out of her face. Such a simple movement, but it caught the attention of almost all the male attendants. A truly unique beauty. Daisuke felt the urge to know more about this person, but that had to wait for now.

After roughly 10 minutes, the door on the classroom opened. Daisuke was examining the computer on his desk, so he did not see what was happening at first. Then he looked towards the front of the classroom. What he saw there caused him to gasp a little. In front was a woman. A beautiful woman. Long black hair, green eyes that were hidden behind a pair of frameless glasses. Her skin white and fair without any kind of imperfection. Her body was a perfect hourglass shape with big chest and shapely hips. She was wearing tight fit top of reddish colour and a black miniskirt that was showing just enough to cause men to look but not enough to be tactless or obscene. She was also wearing high heel stilettos that were very audible as they were marching across the room towards the teacher's desk. Instead of sitting on a chair, she sat on the top of the desk and crossed her beautiful long legs.

"Okay, so I think we can start. I will now explain the rules." Said the teacher with sweet voice.

Daisuke thought that this might be a part of the test. Completing math problems while being distracted by a sexy teacher character.

Back in the day, Daisuke used to play old dating simulators involving sexy teacher character which he favoured the most, so sexy teacher was definitely his thing.

"Focus, focus. This is for the sake of the mission" muttered to himself and his calm, scientific mind took over.

"I am sure you noticed the computers in front of you." continued the teacher, "Why don't you try to turn them on?"

All the present students pushed the "ON" button almost in unison.

The screen lit up and displayed a document. It was exam paper. Daisuke glanced at the exam paper and was quite surprised.

"Is everyone's computer on? Great! Now let me tell you what is next. The document on the computer contains the exam problems. Now, contrary to the math exams you might have had in the past, this exam is a bit different. The test contains 50 questions, and the test duration is 240 minutes. The questions range from trivial university problems to famous unsolved math problems."

Then, the (sexy)cher took out an alarm clock timed for 4 hours and put it on the table.

"To pass, you need 250 points. If you prefer to work on paper, I have some here so feel free to take some. You may begin your test."

The alarm clock started the countdown.

Teacher sitting on the desk adjusted her sitting position by crossing her legs the other way around and smiled.

'I wonder how many people from this group will pass this year. 2? 3? Maybe no one. I wonder if they realize what this exam is all about. There are around 3 thousand students attempting this exam so if 3 or 5 people get accepted, it will be a great year for The Department of Mathematics'

Everyone started scrolling through the problems furiously. Everyone except Daisuke. Daisuke was calmly scrolling through the problems and thinking.

"I understand. This test is not as much about math as it is about strategic and logical thinking. Choosing the best possible approach according to your abilities in a limited amount of time. By looking at the questions, anyone can see that completing all of them in this time is impossible. Each question is "weighted". You can choose to complete lots of the trivial ones or try to attempt the hard ones or unsolved ones. Solving any of the unsolved math problems will get you accepted. This is exactly like exams that my father used to give me to prepare me for my quantum engineer tests. Brings back memories. This is a piece of cake."

Then, Daisuke remembered something.

"SARA, what is the 'status'?"

"The current 'status' is 99.93%"

The 'status' referred to the result of the algorithm developed by Daisuke's father. It calculates the probability of the future historical event repeating the way they did. 99.93% meant that the history will repeat itself. Daisuke's goal is to get this number as low as possible so that he knows for sure that 'new society' will not be formed. Right now, the number is very high.

"Can you calculate how much the number changes when I pass the test just like any other student?"

"The data and correlation of the events is very fragmented, but my best approximation would be 99.89%"

"And if I were to end the test with perfect score?"

"Calculating. The approximate result is 99.86%"

"Alright, let's do that then."
