Chapter 34- Happy birthday~

Akisu was getting…embarrassed.

He was seventeen years old already, yet his parents decided to bring a cake and made him cut in front of so many people in the resort cafeteria. Many of them clapped and most of them were laughing.

Seriously, he just wanted this accursed world to get destroyed right now…

"Oh my, sweet baby~ How fast you grew in so little time." His mother kissed his cheek repeatedly and hugged him like she was a very caring mother, even though Akisu doesn't remember the last time he had dinner or any long conversation with them before they decided to have this small holiday.

These two always remain occupied with their work to give him any time and Akisu didn't hold them guilty for that. But this occasional doting irritated him to no end.

"I will get my drink refilled." Making the excuse, he took his glass and left the table. His parents were busy with the others enough to notice his disappearance.

Seriously, he doubted how he could be a child of such social and extroverted people who could become friends with strangers in no time.

Walking past the tables, he reached the left side of the counter where the juice machine was located. There were a lot of options but Akisu went for his all-time favorite—carbonated cola.

"That surely isn't good for your health."

*BA* *DUMB*

Akisu felt his heart skipping a beat hearing that familiar voice before he shot his head in the direction. And as he thought, his senses didn't betray him.

It was the same girl from last night, Miku.

"Ah, careful!" She suddenly exclaimed which made him aware how he was spilling the drink all over his hand.

'Ah, great…couldn't have made any manlier impression.' Akisu inwardly grumbled as he set the cup aside and looked around for tissues when suddenly a white handkerchief was forwarded in his direction.

"Here," Akisu blinked in confusion before he shook his head in denial,

"I-I can't take it…I would make it dirty." Just by gazing at how porcelain and unblemished the handkerchief was, Akisu felt bad at the thought of dirtying it.

However, Miku didn't listen to his refusal, and after stepping closer to him; she held him by his forearm and began wiping his hand with her hanky, softly.

Akisu held his breath upon finding the girl from this close. Her long eyelashes were just inches apart from his face. Her fragrance was making his senses overwhelmed and so was her soft hand holding his.

If anything, Akisu wondered how he hadn't fainted by now.

'She is working so diligently…' Unlike him who was eyeing the girl, she was wiping his hand with full determination.

"There…all wiped up." Akisu woke up from his stupor upon hearing her call as he saw that she had already finished wiping his hand.

'Why…this soon…' Akisu knew that he had ridiculous and impossible hopes to keep holding her hand, but still…

"So, yesterday I ate your birthday chocolates, huh?" Hearing Miku mentioning about last night and his birthday, made him feel embarrassed. Surely she must have seen the ruckus his parents created.

'I wanna be an ostrich all of a sudden…'Taking a deep breath he decided to not make this any more awkward and relay his true thoughts, "It wasn't anything like birthday chocolates…I just brought them for a friend who didn't come to meet me as he promised."

Akisu saw the girl raising her brows before a smile bloomed on her face,

"Well, I am thankful to that friend then…after all; his absence helped us become friends."

The weight of her words made his chest heavy as a wide-eyed Akisu asked in a stuttering manner, F-Friends…?"

"We aren't..." Miku tilted her head in genuine confusion, making Akisu suck on a short breath before he vigorously nodded.

He didn't know what was going on with the girl to ask someone like him to be her friend, but for the first time, a girl had taken the initiative to offer a hand to him. Surely, he wasn't going to reject such a once-in-a-lifetime offer.

"Great then," She replied with a heart-throbbing smile. Akisu couldn't stop allowing his lips to stretch as well. However, soon his smile began to fall as he saw Miku waving at him and turning to leave.

Akisu sighed as he also waved at the girl and was about to turn around when suddenly Miku stopped and twirled to look at him.

"I nearly forgot," Akisu remained frozen as he saw her skipping her way toward him and stopping just inches apart.

*Chu*

Akisu's eyes went saucer when all of a sudden, Miku pecked on his cheek with an audible sound.

Everything paused at that moment. The people around, the shuffling of the counter staff, and even the very air around them seemed to have frozen at that moment when Akisu felt her soft and fluffy lips pressed against his cheek.

Detaching her lips from him, Miku grinned at his reaction before relaying her forgotten thought,

"Happy birthday, Aki-kun. May your every wish come true."

Akisu remained frozen at his spot until her figure didn't disappear from his vision, before the boy all of a sudden collapsed to the ground, having no strength left in his legs.

Touching the cheek where her warmth still lingered, the teenage boy couldn't help muttering, "You already fulfilled the wish I could have never even dreamt about…"

After parting ways with Akisu, Minoru made his way back toward his room with a sheepish smile on his face.

He liked how things were going with his best friend.

Reaching his room, Minoru used his key card to unlock the door…only to find an imposing figure standing on the other side.

"D-Da-" An intimated Minoru was about to call out for his father, who clearly wasn't in a good mood, but he suddenly was held by the arm and pushed against the door.

A shiver ran down Minoru's spine, which more than fret, was of excitement.

'This surely is gonna be great~'
