40 Something New?

A few weeks ago, Damian had passed by the fortresses and taken all the books, whether magical or not. The collection he had now exceeded a thousand books, so for now, there were few things he could look into.

There were also many villages that had been abandoned by the villagers; all of them, prisoners of panic, were taken to the main cities because they would have been killed if not for that.

Demons were beings without feelings; they wouldn't change no matter how much one knew about them. It was known for certain that they were adaptable beings to humans to eliminate them, learning customs and preparing simply to kill.

World domination?

It was impossible for something like that to happen, so maybe their goal was different.

The circuitous journey between these villages lasted approximately three hours. Damian took quick rounds to obtain useful items and eliminate demons in the vicinity.

Damian had learned a spell to fly, obtained from demons, but even though it wasn't a very complete spell, he could only fly for a few hours.

Many villages of hunters and warriors had fled; whether they liked it or not, they would have to evacuate because in the north, they were in a brutal war, and the worst part was that they were losing.

There were many ghostly places, so Damian didn't stay long in these places. He wasn't brave at all; things like these were especially terrifying, so learning to live in solitude was something Damian had to master.

"Should I burn down the houses?" Damian immediately dismissed those ideas; probably humans would return to these houses later if the war calmed down a bit.

Damian carefully searched each house and soon discovered a library in an abandoned castle.

These castles belonged to barons, people who had been in power for a long time, so during that time, each person collected history books, magical books, or general information.

"The knowledge of Priest Anton? It should be the inheritance of a good cleric with notable healing magic." Damian, without much thought, began to throw all the books into his shadow. This ability somehow gave him a certain amount of storage that hadn't been filled until now.

There are more than 300 books in the library, most of which are about history, geography, and the humanities.

Damian opened the books one by one and discovered that there was very little content inside. Each book was bound with only a few parchment sheets, which were not very well done, and each page was extremely thick.

When he started looking for information about this world, Damian discovered that there shouldn't be very advanced paper-making technology. Almost all the books Damian had seen were made from skin.

The recorded history of the continent dates back at least five hundred years.

There are intelligent people in every generation. The reason why papermaking hasn't appeared now is probably that there is no social demand.

Parchment is expensive to produce and doesn't favor cultural diffusion. But, seen inversely, it is useful for the nobility to monopolize knowledge and maintain class solidification.

The aristocratic class was not willing to allow common citizens to learn knowledge, so naturally, they were not interested in inventing paper and studying book printing for everyone.

In addition to books on history, geography, and the humanities, Damian also found more than a dozen knight novels, which should be recreational reading. Additionally, Damian also discovered a cult Bible, which recorded a mysterious legend called the God of Slaughter.

Damian looked at the book, and when he saw the name of the God of Slaughter, he felt a bit anxious about the feelings it was giving him.

In addition to this strange book, the most precious books are the notebooks and memoirs of nobles from all generations.

Damian looked carefully and discovered that they contained many secrets about the upper class of nobles, such as the marriage between the royal family and that noble.

There is a special notebook that records many craftsmanship techniques.

Damian leaned over, sorted these books separately, found several wooden boxes, and packed them, preparing to read them slowly later.

Damian carefully searched the mansion, and when he didn't find anything else, he thought to himself, "In general, barons should have magical books."

But they wouldn't be in plain sight, so Damian searched this place and finally discovered a secret passage in a warehouse.

The secret passage was only about twenty meters long, and inside were several people who had died of starvation. At the end of the secret passage was a secret room of less than ten square meters. There were very few things in the secret room. Apart from a blue insignia, there was only a scroll and a beautifully crafted book.

The outer layer of the book has copper inlays, and the inner paper is delicate and smooth; it should be made from a special magical beast's skin.

Damian opened it and was astonished: this exquisite book with copper cover inlays turned out to be a very rare and precious magical book.

Normal magic books are common, but there are ancient ones that have lost magic written in them.

There are only a few magical towers in the north, and each magical tower is controlled by a great mage. To join the Magic Tower, you must serve the great mages and sign a long contract.

The vast majority of mages are active in various kingdoms throughout the central continent, but there are also many unaffiliated mages here.

Damian wrapped the magical book in layers and placed it at the bottom of the suitcase they used to store more valuable things. Then he glanced at the scroll and discovered that it was indeed a strange method of magic.

When he wanted to leave, he heard a distant cry that was as annoying as it was anxious. "Are there still people in this place?"

Upon leaving the castle, he looked into the distance and saw a curtain of smoke rising. Knowing that things could be somewhat complex, Damian headed towards that site.

When he arrived, he was able to take over a village. There were numerous corpses on the ground, and the wounds on their bodies were as tiny as if they hadn't been attacked.

Boom!

At that moment, the ground trembled. Damian saw a girl running out from a wooden house, and when she looked at where he was, her eyes seemed to show surprise, fear, and anxiety.

"Come here." Damian gestured with his hand, but at that moment, a black figure appeared on the path to this village.

Feeling the hostility from the other party being oppressive, Damian stood in front of the people while holding his sword with his left hand.

"At last, someone with certain abilities; I'm going to have a lot of fun."
