The Cold Air Above The Street Lights

Something about this situation feels familiar something about a bottle in my hand and the cold breeze caressing my neck. 75 feet off the ground and the sweet kiss of death hanging just out of place. Wishing, hoping that someone will catch me. I think about how beautiful the street lights look in this hustling and bustling city. Wishing my life had gone better. Of course who would catch me when I have no one left. With the last of my will to live I drank what was left of my whiskey, felt the cold, frigid air enter my lungs, and then I jumped.

Suddenly nothing but darkness. I felt as if I was in some kind of terrible rollercoaster. The nausea overtaking my systems. I could feel the rocking and rolling of some kind of liquid. It was warm, kind, and caring like the sweet embrace of your mother when you were just a child. It made me feel so happy even if it only lasted a second. I tried to move in what I could only assume to be my body. For some reason nothing happened, I just kept tumbling and bumping into these hard sharp objects. of course I had already gotten over the nausea.

I felt a growing sensation and at it's climax I could see. I had no clue what would happen from then on. When my eyes were opened I could see very little. Fish were the first thing I saw. They looked nothing like the fish on earth. The beautiful coral was the next thing to come into my sight. With colors like I had never imagined, pink, blue, yellow, green, red. It was truly a sight to behold.

I wish Ava was here. My beautiful Ava, taken from me by cancer. How terrible that was, and what a mess I was. At least I had our beautiful baby girl back then. The next thing I saw in my limited field of vision was a face something like a fish person. It was like a merman but instead of the common half human half fish it was more of a humanoid fish. For some reason I found this sight to be comforting. Then a woman like fish person appeared out of nowhere she looked somewhat panicked. She stared at me with a glint of sadness in her eyes. She then pulled the other fish person away. That was the last I saw of them after that.

After awhile I got bored but at least I could stare at the fish swimming by. Everyday fish died and new ones took there place. At some point I had enough. I tried with all my might to try and move but to no avail. I just had to wait in that grimy place stuck in a hidey-hole in some coral. Why me, I would ask myself, why did I have to endure such a sad life of just watching the world go by. I couldn't do anything, I could only watch. Eventually I got used to that life of just watching things. I could easily pass a day by just looking at the new fish. The different species come and go. Some coral would break then new ones would reappear.

I felt as if I was stuck in time, forever alone, in this little slot of time where nothing seemed to change except the color of fish scales. One day I just fell asleep, tired of it all hoping never to wake up. It was the only way for the world to pass without me wondering why, why me. I had to deal with the sad monotony of life that never ended and never changed. One day I saw this beautiful Red fish swim by. It was the most amazing thing to see in the coral. Such a beautiful scarlet red fish. How free it was to roam. To do whatever it pleased. I watched that fish for ages. It eventually found me after a few days. It scooped me up and took me with it. I'll never forget that moment.

That beautiful fish that saved me from such a sad life. It took me to some kind of shore and it buried me in the sand. the last sight I saw was that beautiful red fish. Then nothing once again, I knew I was still buried in the sand and only time would tell where I'd end up. When I fell asleep I could only dream of that red fish.
