Tsunade's journey was pretty monotonous; she went from one place to another, drank and gambled. She didn't have any enemies or tasks for Kai, so for a month, all they did was nothing. They just walked from town to next until they were stopped by Jiraiya and Naruto, who came to fetch Tsunade to become the next Hokage.

Hiruzen, after Orochimaru's disguised attack on Konoha, realized that he lost his vision when it came to ruling. At the time, Kai informed Hiruzen about Orochimaru's plans, but he went to share them with Danzo, who wanted to take the Hokage seat for himself. After the danger passed, Hiruzen worked with Jiraiya and Jounins of Konoha to bring Danzo down forcefully. They failed to catch or kill him, and Danzo escaped, but at least the village was safe now.

After that event, Hiruzen decided to retire and offered Jiraiya to take his place, but Jiraiya refused, saying he would find Tsunade and fetch her.

As Jiraiya saw Kai, his eyes blazed with anger, but he quenched it. He learned that Kai killed Orochimaru from his spies, but he couldn't blame him. Still, losing his friend was painful...

"Jiraiya," Tsunade said, a mix of surprise and curiosity in her voice. "What are you doing here?"

"I've come to ask you to become the next Hokage, Tsunade," Jiraiya replied, his gaze flicking between her and Kai. "Konoha needs you."

Tsunade's eyebrows shot up in surprise. "Me? Hokage?"

"Yes," Jiraiya confirmed. "Hiruzen has decided to retire, and he believes you're the best person for the job."

A thoughtful silence fell between them, and Tsunade glanced at Kai. His expression remained stoic, but she couldn't help but wonder what he thought of the situation. A flicker of emotion had begun to sprout within Kai after seeing Tsunade's genuine behavior. Mei Terumi, too, had slept with him, but he could see that her intention was to tie him down to the village, whereas Tsunade's intentions were pure. That purity had sparked a small emotion within Kai, especially after he had opened up to her while they were drunk.

"I need time to think about it," Tsunade finally said, her voice uncertain.

Jiraiya nodded. "Take all the time you need. Just remember, Konoha is counting on you."

As the group settled down for the night, Jiraiya couldn't help but approach Kai, his eyes filled with a mixture of anger and curiosity.

"You killed Orochimaru," Jiraiya accused, his voice low and dangerous.

Kai stared back at him, his face unreadable. "Yes, I did."

Jiraiya clenched his fists, trying to suppress the pain of losing a friend. "I should hate you for that, you know. But somehow, I can't."

Kai simply continued to stare at him, showing no signs of emotion. "I understand your pain, but it had to be done."

Jiraiya shook his head, a bitter laugh escaping his lips. "You're an enigma, Kai. I don't understand you, and I doubt I ever will."

Kai didn't answer Jiraiya, he didn't care what he thought. The conversation came to an abrupt end as Jiraiya retreated back to his sleeping spot, leaving Kai to contemplate the night sky alone.

Days passed, and Tsunade spent most of her time pondering the offer to become the next Hokage. The weight of responsibility and the thought of returning to a village that held so many memories were almost overwhelming. She found herself drawn to Kai, seeking his silent presence as a source of comfort.

Finally, one night, she made her decision.

The moon was full, casting a gentle light over the landscape as Tsunade called Kai to her. He approached, his steps silent, and stopped a few paces away.

"I've decided to accept the offer and become the next Hokage," Tsunade announced, her voice determined. "But I wanted to talk to you first."

Kai merely stared at her, his expression inscrutable, waiting for her to continue.

"I want to release you from our agreement," she told him. "You don't owe me anything anymore."

His eyes flickered with a hint of surprise, but his face remained impassive. "You're releasing me?" he asked, his voice low and even.

Tsunade nodded. "Yes. You've helped me more than you know, and I don't want to hold you to a debt any longer."

Kai's eyes narrowed slightly as he considered her words. "I cannot accept that," he finally said, his voice firm. "I lost our wager fairly, and I must honor it."

A small smile played on Tsunade's lips. "Alright, then. How about this? I won't call in my favor now. Instead, you'll owe me one in the future. I can call on you whenever I need you, and you'll come."

Kai stared at her for a moment, his expression unchanging. "Agreed," he said finally.

Tsunade's smile widened, a teasing glint in her eyes. "Even if it's just for a talk or a night together?"

For a moment, Kai's eyes seemed to soften ever so slightly, surprising both himself and Tsunade. He leaned down and gently pressed his lips to her forehead, his breath warm against her skin. As he pulled away, his eyes locked with hers, he whispered, "Yes."

Then, as quickly as he had appeared, he vanished into the night, leaving Tsunade standing there, her heart pounding in her chest.

Tsunade returned to Konoha with Jiraiya and Naruto, her heart heavy with the knowledge that Kai was no longer by her side. She assumed the role of Hokage, dedicating herself to the village and its people. Despite her new responsibilities, her thoughts often drifted to the enigmatic man who had briefly entered her life.

Kai, meanwhile, continued to walk his lonely path, the memory of Tsunade's warmth and the flicker of emotion he had felt for her lingering in his mind. He knew he couldn't forget her, but he also knew that he could never allow himself to truly connect with anyone. The world was cruel, and he had to remain an outsider.

Kai made his way towards the Hidden Cloud Village, his mind focused on learning A's Lightning Cloak Jutsu. Although he was already considered the fastest man on Earth due to his mastery of the Flying Thunder God Jutsu, he wanted to learn the Raikage's technique to determine which one was superior. Of course, A wouldn't simply teach him, but Kai planned to offer information about Akatsuki in exchange for a spar.
