Almost all elves' powers start kicking in around 13 but lately, I've been able to feel other people's emotions. Staring at my hands I saw the flicker in and out of vision. I was a vanisher too? "I-I have to g-go," I said...

I said rushing down the hall to the ladies' restroom. I locked myself in and started to cry. Why am I so different? I'll never belong and no one will ever like me. I want a mom.....no that wasn't an option, I had no mom or friends to talk to. Winter? No, I just met him and that would be embarrassing. I looked up and wiped the tears from my cheeks. I opened the door to the stall I was in and Carma and another girl with green hair were sitting there. "Oh Phoenix, it's ok it happens to the best of us," Carma said. The green-haired girl spoke next, "Trust me I would know. My brother's powers came when he was at school and he was pretty embarrassed, but now he is one of the most popular kids in the school. Carma looked at me and her face lit up with realization. "Oh yeah, I forgot to mention this is Pixie." She smiled and waved. "I better go I'll be late for lunch." I opened the door to the ladies' restroom and to my surprise, there were a few people standing outside. "Shoo." Pixie said walking out. The people that were gathered went back to what they were doing. Only Winter hovered in place for a moment then walked off to his locker. I quietly put my hood on and walked to lunch. I found a mostly empty table in the back and began to eat. Not even five minutes later I saw Winter walk into the room. I immediately looked down. He got his food from the lunch line and sat at a table near the front of the cafeteria. As soon as he sat down everyone started shoving their way towards his table. Talk about popularity. Suddenly a group of three girls strutted their way towards me. I got the impression that they weren't coming over to greet me. The girl in the middle spoke. "Listen here bird girl, I'm Darcy and this is my crew and this is MY school. So you better back off or you WILL pay for it." she turned around and sashayed away. "What a jerk, what did I even do to her?" I asked mostly to myself. "She just wants to be top alpha, she reminds the new kids that she's the "boss" of this school. Just ignore her." a voice from behind me said. I squeaked startled, "Oh sorry, I'm Marin. You must be new here if Darcy is after you already. Marin said. Marin had short wavy red hair and a kind face, he was wearing the boy's school uniform and tennis shoes. "Oh hi I'm Phoenix, nice to meet you," I said quietly. "Well, you're invited to come to sit with me and my friends anytime!" He said strolling off.

Finally, a few hours later school was over. I grabbed my bag and bolted for the door when Darcy came up to me again with her crew and pinned me to a wall. "Go home and never come back, bird girl!" She screeched in my face and threw me down on the hard concrete floor. The members of her crew started throwing things at me. I curled up into a ball trying to shield myself and did the only thing I could do,cry. After what seemed like an eternity of pain I heard a lot of yelling. Murmurers of laughter rang through my ears. I carefully got up and winced at the pain and studied myself. There were bruises and cuts all over my body, I assumed one of my legs was broken because I could barely stand on my left leg. Some of my clothes are ripped but not enough to show anything. Hot with shame I grabbed what was left of my bag and started limping home. Not even halfway there I collapsed in a puddle of shame. I blacked out and drifted into a peaceful slumber. When I woke I was in a hospital bed. My body shook with pain. Doctors came in and poked me with all kinds of needles. I hate human hospitals. I blacked out again. What was happening and why? When I woke up Carma and my father were sitting at the end of the bed, my dad in tears and Carma trying to cheer him up. "D-dad." I croaked. He looked up and rushed towards me. "Thank goodness your ok! he said hugging me. I winced and he backed away. "What happened, where am I?" I asked. "You're in a human hospital. You've been asleep for three days we were afraid you were going to die." Carma said as if she was trying to say that in a way that wouldn't freak me out. "I want to go home...." I whimpered. ]

After a few days of recovery, I went back to school. "Darcy is going to kill me..." I mumbled while getting dressed. After arguing with my father about going to school I finally agreed to go to school. I practiced levitating a little more since I wasn't able to put pressure on my left leg and levitated to school. Carma was waiting for me at the front of the school and greeted me. "Welcome back!" I nodded slightly trying to ignore the glares I felt from Darcy and her crew. I went inside with Carma and Pixie joined us soon after. Classes came and went but then it was time for the E class again. Winter will be there! I walked inside and took the seat closest to the door. Darcy walked in and I groaned softly. "Hey, bird brain! Give me back my seat NOW. We wouldn't want something terrible to happen again." She said quietly batting her eyelashes all innocent-like. I ignored her, and she stamped her foot and shoved me out of my seat. "Ouch! What did I do to you I just want to fit in!' I whimpered and held my broken leg. Lady Garavine had heard this and walked over. "Miss Yellowtail! What in the name of elves was that?" She scolded. "Go the principles right now! Winter takes Miss Phoenix to Rider's office." She sighed and went back to teaching the class. I levitated up and out of the class. Most of the way to Rider's office it was silent until Winter spoke. "I heard about what happened last week, I'm sorry about Darcy," he said, his hair turning a dark blue. "It's fine, I'm used to it, that's why I don't have many friends...Most of the time the bullying gets so bad that I have to move schools....." I mumbled. I rubbed my eye making my contact that hid my emerald eyes under come out. "What happened to your eye?!" he said panicked his hair turning purple. I realized what had happened and quickly put my contact in. "It's nothing," I said and quickly put the contact back in and pulled my hood moreover my face. Great, now the most popular guy in school knows I'm a freak.
