"No one should make the red headed idiot angry. Trust me boy I learned it the hard way."

.

My intent died to nothing in seconds. I couldn't manifest that when he looks at me with those eyes.

I put down my head. I was afraid he was mad. I didn't want him to be mad, I don't know why but I really didn't want him to be mad at me.

Then I heard his calming voice, "It's ok Celine. You know Lucian! He wouldn't want you to avenge him if it turns you into a murderer."

I looked up and saw his smiling face. I smiled too. Sometimes stinky just makes me feel…. At peace.

"Let's get him together shall we?" Stinky asked me with a smile and I nodded smiling.

Then I looked at the old guy and smirked.

"You wanted to know who I am? Very well! I AM CELINE OF THE BATTLE-BORNS! COME AND MEET YOUR DOOM"

Year 1212, 19th day of the 6th month – Aerenloir Temple

[Gerda Purplewing the Priestess's POV]

.

'No No No No NO!! This can not be happening! Why now, WHY NOW???'

I looked around as I saw my men losing to children. CHILDREN.

The granddaughter I am so proud of, who is hailed as a genius of her generation, was defeated. In one single move.

DISGRACE!

Utter humiliation. And that red haired beast declared to be a battleborn? One of those northern savages? Will I die of shame today?

I watched as my son, the current head of the clan fighting against the Hawk. My hands are shaking.

I really believed the ravens when they said the hawks won't live long. And here there is a hawk standing right in front of me with those disgusting eyes.

That bastard of a king promised that they will not house the hawks. And the great house of Blackhawk was just a coincidence in name.

Coincidence utter bullocks…

I pleaded the idiotic raven boy to look into it. But did he? NO! he is just content with his new found power and the toys he keeps around and indulge all day.

Like hell I would give my granddaughter to that filth.

This destroyed everything. Utterly destroyed.

Now there is a Blackhawk in my doorstep! and claiming he serves a phoenix.

If the phoenixes are still alive and if they punish our betrayal….

No, we have to kill all of these heathens.

But this old bastard and those kids are way too much. The hawk said his name was Julian… Julian… Julian.

After I mused a bit I remembered and realized, a horrified killer was in front of me. A child grew up in war to an old man who controls wars.

Sir Julian Battlemoar! A man who is almost a legend among the kingdoms.

Why is someone of his station here?

He was just standing there perfectly relaxed as he used his aura alone to make me use all of my mana. If I stop regulating my mana then we all die.

*THUD*

I turned as the aura disappeared from the surroundings.

All dozen men that we brought now lay unconscious with only I standing. I didn't like this foreboding.

I looked at the red beast and could see all the hate in the world animated on those bloody eyes of hers.

I could see a hawk looking at me as if I was his prey.

And then I saw the old monster just standing relaxed.

.

.

"Sir Julian, I request to execute the traitors." I heard the hawk say, stunning me.

The old monster looked surprised at the request and turned to the kids who nodded in approval. Anyone could see, they had conviction in their eyes.

"I don't disagree to the matter per se. But are you sure you want to directly execute them?" The monster seemed amused while talking about life and death of a whole clan. I felt horrified.

"HOW CAN YOU TALK AS IF IT IS NOTHING? TO TALK CASUALLY ABOUT THE DEATH OF A WHOLE CLAN?" I shouted in hysteria and soon I realized what I just said.

*Laughter*

"HAHAHAHHAHA, do say madam, how can some human being talk casually about exterminating a whole clan or maybe I don't know…. Say two?" the hawk laughed and stated in jubilant voice only to say the last words with venomous cold tone.

I shivered, I should've known the Deities wouldn't agree with what we did that day. I knew our actions will be paid with blood.

I need to beg for my people. My pride had no place here.

"My lord pl-" I wanted to plead but was punched in the guts by a red shadow.

*Thud*

As I fell on my knees. I looked up to see my assailant.

"You want to plead for mercy?" It was a demon. No warmth in those blood eyes as it stared at me.

"You want to plead your worthless lives when you and your clan killed innocents?

When your clan killed the people they sworn to serve and protect?

The people they were bound with blood and honor?

You dare plead when you killed babies and children who didn't even understand why they were traveling outside their home?

YOU DARE PLEAD WHEN YOU PUT LUCIAN'S WHOLE CLAN THROUGH HELL!"

The demon was looking at me as a dead woman. I couldn't even sense any strength in my body nor my mana. I was a helpless woman.

"Traitors be DAMNED!" The devil swung down her sword. I closed my eyes to meet my end.

Horridly it never came.

I was panting hard. As if, if I don't breathe I will never be able to again. My whole body shivering and full of sweat.

I cravenly looked up to see the demons hand were gently grasped by a boy. With golden hair as if sun was shining from them and eyes that looked like the sky was staring at you.

He didn't have a smile on his face as he stared at me. My body couldn't move. It felt like authority higher than what I could exert was pressing on me.

The lad was staring with cold eyes and a stoic face.

I recognize that face…

The hair color… doesn't match…

The eyes color…. Don't match…

But the face… it's just like them. A smaller face with narrow chin and high cheek bones with a regal nose. Doe like eyes… Hair smooth as silk. If the lad had Vermillion red hair and violet eyes he would look exactly like any other royal phoenixes…

""""LUCIAN!""""

They all shouted as they saw the young man. So this is the lord they serve. The hawk wasn't lying…

It seems it's time to pay our debts of blood.

Several minutes ago,

[Casper's POV]

.

Everyone went to confront the people outside the cave. Gikko told me he will keep me informed and I should hide with Spike in some crevice. I didn't like the idea but I had no choice.

Spike the main servant of Lord Lucian was setting up blankets for him to lay our lord down.

It baffled me every time I looked at our lord.

He was so strong… He was so kind… But he always felt… umm different.

Like he didn't seem human…

Or he was more human than any others I have ever seen…

He always seemed one with nature itself which fascinated me.

My life living as a rat, allowed me to see all the disgusting things human do.

One of the reasons I preferred to call myself a rat. Rats don't do what those humans do…

I really liked the lord. If lords were like him then everything will be better.

So, I was really worried when our lord didn't respond for so long.

Everyone was fussing over what might happen if the lord doesn't get food in his system, so they tried to feed him broths and stock or any liquid juice they found.

And good to see the lord didn't look worse than the time he had fallen unconscious.

More like he was glowing and glossing.

There was not even a smudge on his perfectness.

Even grandpa Julian said he was looking healthier than before. The notion baffled me honestly.

I went near the lord as I could hear the battle from here and not to mention that awful feeling when people released auras. Still hate that. No matter how much they expose me to the auras to get used to.

I don't think I will ever like the feeling of aura.

Even the concept of strength based on aura baffles me.

Because one could feel this aura inside them they get strong?

Because they can release that outside their body they get stronger?

Because they can even make this nonsense solid like a hammer or sword they become one of the strongest?

Bah I don't understand at all. Even explanation of uncle Mavis about magic was easier to understand.

I couldn't help but pout, because everyone seemed obsessed with the aura thingy.

But… Our lord had an aura too… umm not like the ones people fight with but umm… Just being near him one could feel it. An aura of warmth. But it didn't make you feel hot… umm I really don't know how to describe it. IT JUST FEELS GOOD.

I sighed and went near my lord to check on him. Then I noticed, he was slightly glowing golden lights.

The warmth around him doubled.

He even felt stronger. I don't really know how…

I was still staring at him as he slowly opened his eyes and grunted.

I was surprised and Spike who was near squealed like a little girl which attracted Gikko.

The lord sat up slowly and swayed his body a bit to get a feel for himself after so long.

He then took account of where we were and tried to sense around.

I was amazed to look at him, after such a long time, seeing him alright made me feel glad.

Is this the feeling they call missing someone?

He turned to me and used his trademark smile on me. Celine was right his smile is unfair. I felt shy, that was really weird for someone like me to feel shy.

"How have you been Casper? Hope I wasn't too much trouble." He said with his gentle tone while ruffling my hair.

I felt happy. I looked at him and smiled, I didn't have the strength to say anything.

"Hope you are well Spike. And who is this young man?" He turned to Spike and Gikko to address them.

Spike answered enthusiastically and had tears on his eyes.

Gikko was surprised at first but calmed down and said, "Lord apostle, this one is named Gikko of the mountain tribe. It is an honor to serve the apostle." He kneeled as he greeted Lord Lucian.

Oh yeah he was talking about our lord being some God's apostle wasn't he.

Our lord just smiled at this and told him to get up.

Then he looked at the direction they were fighting and raised his eyebrows.

He then turned to us and said, "Well it looks like I am needed somewhere. Least something unfortunate happens."

He then stood up and disappeared in an instant. Leaving all of us gaping at his exit.

Same day in the Castle of Rorengar. The king's bed chamber.

[General POV]

.

The previous youthful bright king looked like a shriveled up old man in his bed.

The royal physician was looking at him with a grim face.

With him was Marquis Alvarez and the captain of the king's guard.

All four men were friends. As they were all similar in age and went to war together.

"Orion you bloody fool…" Lord Alvarez stated.

"Shut up you over grown gorilla. This is not the time." Shouted the short physician.

"Now now, we are all edgy at the moment, let's not create more trouble for Orion… Last thing he needs is to watch his friends fight..." Captain of the guards said with a choked voice.

Among the four he spent the most time with the king. Just like Axel to Lucian he was to Orion, his retinue and now his personal guard.

"Leon… Ramas…Frost… my friends…

You and I…. Both know… what is hap… pening

I do not have time…

So listen… Closely…

I can't leave it… in my will… As it will be burned…

So I will tell you… my friends directly…

Leave the country… with your… family…

Never… divulge…The location… Of the…real sw..ord

Make sure… My children… survive.."

"Sigh! Stop talking Orion. You still have some time till the black brother comes to collect your soul.

And don't worry I will drag these two idiots with me, with our families, out of the country." Ramas the physician said and glared at the two men who were about to protest.

"You already know, what is happening to people who supported the previous crown prince. You are already on the list to be disposed of as soon as the king dies.

They will use you as the scape goats to blame all the wrongs on you. Even depict you as the traitors for poisoning the king for this very meeting.

And yes if we leave and run away they will do the same.

But the difference is we will live if we run and will have a chance to keep our families safe.

If we stay for honor, then we die with our families following to the afterlife. So I will hear no protest!"

Leon had a troubled look on his face and he thought about all that could happen. He was not smart as Ramas or Orion but he at least understood what could happen.

He would love to stay back to fight for his friend, for his darling nephew for their honor. But he too knew he was of no use being dead. He was a true warrior but he wasn't totally selfless.

He nodded at Ramas, agreeing to go on with his plans.

But for Frost, the knight of blind faith, his moniker that of a fool they called him… A man who never wed or took children because all he lived for was his friend and the king… And idiot… Selfless, stupid and loyal. He was even worse than Leon himself in the brains department.

But no one could deny his skills and loyalty to the king.

He had no family to speak of so he wasn't burdened.

"I will breath my last with my king!" He declared and we all knew he wouldn't take a no for an answer.

Ramas could only nod at this. Leon had a sour face. While the king just tried to smile with his strength less facial muscles.

He then called a bit louder to the attending maids waiting outside.

"This king… needs someone to bring… the boxes I set on… my study."

There was nod of understanding from the maid and she soon returned with 2 boxes.

Everyone had a questioning look towards the boxes.

The king smiled and said, "When you two… find… Lucian… Take some of his blood to open the boxes…it's the last…legacy of the… phoenixes."

The two friends nodded.

And bid the king and the knight farewell. Maybe for the last time.

They all had some level of moisture in their eyes.

When everything was back to peaceful silence the king looked at Frost.

"So at the end it will just be us old friend…"

"It's a death I gladly accept your majesty."

.

.

Silence descended over the room again.
