Chapter 40 : Business
"I'm hungry. Let's have dinner."
Alessandro's sudden change of subject took me by surprise. After all of the skinning, mounting heads on walls, and wearing like jackets talk, I wasn't feeling particularly hungry.
Still, Alessandro wasn't fazed by any of it. He simply straightened his tie and pulled a suit jacket on. He helped me find my shoes and held out an arm for me to walk with him down to the dining hall here.
He led me to a small, private room off the side of the main room. It was intricately decorated, with warm, rich woods, earthy stone, and all sorts of beautiful fabric. Candles burned all around the space, lighting it and keeping it a little warmer than the drafty main dining hall.
There were already salads sitting out at the place settings. Alessandro pulled out my chair for me. I sat down, mouth already watering at the sight. It was a beautiful, deep green Caesar salad. The second Alessandro sat down, I dug in.
