Chapter 10 : Heating Up

Month-end was always the worst part of being an accountant. Figuring out how to wrap up the accounts at every company I worked at was a puzzle of trying to make numbers fit, and make all of the different accountants get their numbers to match up.

I’d worked all day trying to reconcile two different accounts. One of the accountants on the floor had his own unique way of keeping track of numbers, so I was struggling to make sense of his records. I’d sent them all home while I worked, as the regular office hours ended hours ago.

My head was threatening me with a nasty headache. I pulled some ibuprofen out of my drawer and popped a few before going back to work. I wanted to go home. I didn't want to look at these accounts for another minute.
