First Payment and Dive Bombing Bird.

A week has passed since the robot started working for Belthor. According to their agreement he will receive his first payment today.

The door is swung open to reveal Belthor walking in with a small box of ingots.

He takes a once over of the room, before he places the box next to the table. Continuously looking around as though he is trying to find something.

The robot just sits in his chair watching the blacksmith's odd behavior. Eventually he doesn't find what he was looking for and leaves, slamming the door behind him.

'Ah? Seems to be in a bad mood?'

The robot is puzzled by his actions. Maybe a problem with the elves? Or he's not getting enough business?

Shaking his head, he quickly moves on to something more important. Whatever happened to Belthor to make him act like that has nothing to do with him, he's been stuck in this room and hasn't seen a soul for an entire week, what kind of problem could he cause?

Looking down at the box there is an extra ingot than normal laying on top.

'Yes! Even when he's upset he still doesn't forget about me... What a good guy. I'll definitely repay him in the future.'

Of course this is a business transaction to Belthor. He pays a wage of one iron ingot per week, and the robot helps him forge things in return.

But he doesn't see it that way.

Without Belthor's help, he would have gotten beaten to death by an angry mob as soon as he stepped in the village. Even if he didn't go to the village there was no way for him to find the metal to repair himself. So Belthor practically saved his life! He provided him with safety and material, all he has to do in return is spend some of his time forging arrowheads. Time is of little value to a robot who can live forever, so it feels like he's taking advantage of his kindness. The broken robot sheds a nonexistent tear and decides right then and there that he will get stronger! Strong enough to repay this debt of gratitude!

He quickly reaches for the spare ingot. Grasping it within his right hand, it slowly begins to melt. Molding it with his mana, the shape changes into a small bird.

The robot has spent the last week practicing this ability and trying out all sorts of shapes. Limited by the amount of metal available he can only choose a Scout Drone.

The ability it starts with magnifies it's vision allowing it to see further. He decided the best type of scout is one with high mobility. The first scout he made was a small human. It was able to hide well but it's short legs did not allow it to move fast at all.

But a bird can be both small and agile. Flying from a distance and using it's ability to scout enemies or terrain, it's the perfect combination!

The metal bird suddenly springs to life. Hopping around on the worktable chirping happily. Ready to explore outside, the robot reaches over and opens the small window, sending the bird out.

Through his connection he can see what the bird sees, and experience the same sensations. The bird flies high above the village. Seeing this spectacular sight, a small gasp of amazement comes from the robot.

The waving golden wheat fields, the houses made from wood, and the children playing in the water of a small creak. The village from this perspective is one that not many get to see. The bird circles in the air above the village taking in the scenery. Unbeknownst even to himself, the robot begins to envy the humans. The safety they can create. No need to hide away in small room, or worry about the deadly animals in the forest. Envious of... civilization.

After enjoying the view, the robot gets back to work. He orders the bird to explore the surroundings.

Once he gathers enough metal to repair his body he will need somewhere to live. He decides to start looking now. It should have a metal vein of some kind near the surface where he can easily reach it. Preferably in a secluded area that is difficult to find, and not too close to any human settlements.

He needs time and space if he wants to become strong.

Building too close to humans would make it easy to be discovered. If that were to happen, they would definitely send a military force to destroy him. With the unknown strength of the humans, it's better to play safe.

He needs to sneakily build up strength, before he makes his existence known to others.

On top of that he has also ordered the scout to find easy prey to hunt. The bird is completely metal, making it immune to poisons, which is extremely handy out in nature.

It doesn't have any combat abilities but just using it's body to dive bomb straight into a snake or a bunny rabbit could prove effective.

In this way a week has passed. The bird spent the week outside scouting the terrain and bullying weaker monsters.

To the south is the elves forest, which is too dangerous to explore right now. The west is a woodland area where some hunters of the village go to hunt deer and boar. The woods here are less dangerous. Having only normal creatures, as long as the bird chooses weak, small animals, there is plenty of experience to be earned.

When the bird killed it's first prey a week ago, he was shocked.

The exp that was supposed to go to the bird, went to him instead. All the efforts of the bird benefit him instead? Isn't something broken? Shouldn't the exp be shared between master and servant? Wouldn't that be better?

It seems that the bird scout truly gets no exp making it impossible for it to level up. His hopes of relying on one extremely powerful drone to one shot all his enemies are destroyed.

On the bright side, the robot has reached level three thanks to it's tireless effort.
